His defense was fine, especially for a rookie, but he shot well from 3 in 1 game. He's shooting 33% from 3, that's not good for a shooter. He is a rookie and a 2nd rounder, so that is understandable, I am not saying waive him or anything, but saying he have been good or should be part of the rotation is weird tbh.

Re: Detroit Looking for Upgrades
I would do a minor trade with the Clippers to add shooting and depth at the Forward spot.
The Clippers are not going anywhere, and they could use some cheap youth.
DET Out: Marcus Sasser and Bobi Klintman
Detroit In: Nicolas Batum
Batum is a vet at the end of his career, he knows his role and he won't disrupt our chemistry, and he won't be demanding a lot of playing time. It would be nice to have him for the playoffs.

I think my only pushback is that most of the dominance has come against the East.
The Pistons have played a total of 4 games against the West. While it's great that they've gone 4-0, it's come against Houston (good win), Dallas, Memphis and Utah. The next game against another West team with a winning record likely won't come until Dec. 30.
But yes, usually any trades of significance don't come until the trade deadline.

It's early days, but he's flashed enough imo to show he belongs on the court, unlike Klintman.

Ok, but the pistons are in the east and we're going to always have most of our games against the east.
I don't think any fans or management is expecting them to keep up the pace and win 70 games this year. I mean, we won 14 games 2 years ago and 44 last year. We are at the very beginning of our ascension back to contention and all the core guys are 20-24 yrs old and still improving. Expecatations are more like "win a playoff series or 2" not "we're knocking off OKC in the finals."

I like Batum as a target. He's still a playable vet, and he has a ton of great playoff experience. His contract is no issue this year, and it has a team option next.
Also, since DET is far under the tax, we could absorb Batum's (under $6M) in salary by using a trade exception, which could help LAC get within $1M of ducking the tax -- and this LAC squad should be looking to do that.
The only fly in the ointment: Would Batum come to DET, or just say "nah, I'll retire".

Re: Detroit Looking for Upgrades
I don't think my Pacers would do it, but the Pistons should be going after Pascal Siakam. He got added to a young up and coming Pacers team and took them to the Finals; he would do the same for the young up and coming Pistons team.
Tobias Harris, Isaiah Stewart & a raft of draft picks for Pascal Siakam & whichever Pacers backup center (Huff? Bradley? JRE?) the Pistons want.
Pacers get an expiring Harris (allowing them to comfortably extend Mathurin) and Stewart (make him their starting center of the future) and some picks and get to genuinely turn on the tank full-steam.
Pistons get Siakam to elevate the team to the next level. Pascal gets to make another run to the Finals.

Makes a lot of sense for the Pacers, but the Pistons already have issues with spacing and this is Duren's last year on a rookie contract.

Yeah stupid me, thinking you would include your backup big man in a trade to land an All-Star power forward who was last year's ECF MVP. Gosh what the hell was I thinking? Of course you wouldn't trade the great and powerful backup big man Isaiah Stewart!!!!

I'm a huge Siakam fan, think he could make a huge difference in the playoffs, and I'd probably consider trades for him that would most DET fans think are too much.
However, we have a handful of high potential youngsters coming up for extension talks, and I think we should focus on figuring which of these to sign to what before we go all-in on a roster that is yet to win a single playoff series. We fans really have no idea if our owner will pay luxury tax for this team, and we are about to become really expensive if we keep them all. As for Stewart, he is worth more to us than anyone else i.e. we'd rather send out value in the form of picks instead because of fit and locker-room leadership.

Re: Detroit Looking for Upgrades
Stewart is one of the best defensive bigs in the entire league, and is currently 2nd in the league in BPG coming off the bench. His DFG% at the rim is absurd.jowglenn wrote:zeebneeb wrote:Another day, another Stewart trade.MotownMadness wrote:We wouldn’t move Stewart

His impact to the team, is that of a starter. Its massive. Hes only 24. He is the soul of the teams defensive identity.
For those wise to it, he's the 6th starter.

This is why is so hard to propose trades, fans get attached to their good players and overvalue them. Siakam is an allstar PF that made the NBA Finals as the second best player (sometimes played like THE best player) on his team, on a position that Detroit really needs to improve, and you guys are saying no cause you dont want to lose your backup center who plays 23mpg...If you could steal Siakam paying only a expiring and Stewart you should take it and run.

Guys like Stewart are why we are such a physical team in the paint. We’re not gonna risk losing our identity over Siakam.

You would think, especially when you label the guy "your backup big" instead of your "defensive anchor" or the "heart and soul of your defensive identity".JHFVF07 wrote:This is why is so hard to propose trades, fans get attached to their good players and overvalue them. This is honestly just a case Stewart is going to be worth way more to the Pistons than any other team, and there's nothing wrong with that. Upgrading from Tobias to Siakam does make the Pistons better. But losing Stewart in the process significantly lowers the gap from the Tobias to Siakam upgrade, it just is what it is.
The Pistons are a top 6 offense and a top 2 defense. How much better offensively do they get adding Siakam? How much worst defensively do they get losing Stewart? I'd say that would be the biggest change on this team. Especially since a major part of our defensive rating is our rim protection.

in a vacuum i would say detroit still comes out a better team w/ siakam vs with Harris + stewart, but a 3rd alternative where detroit keeps Stewart and add other PF upgrade is probably most ideal.
?Lauri + Stewart > Siakam/no stewart > harris + stewart

No, this is why it's so hard to propose *good* trades: fans of their own teams don't really understand the chemistry and needs of other teams and see their players as interchangeable salary slots and different rankings of "good" or "bad," not understanding their intangible values and impacts on the team. Pistons fans aren't going to go for a Stewart trade not because we overvalue him but because we *understand* his full value to the team in a way someone just glancing at stats from the outside never could.

Re: Detroit Looking for Upgrades
Further, you have Indiana considering this trade to “make Stewart their starting center of the future”. What does that tell you?
Besides, trading Stew to Indiana is the least likely scenario I can think of. Rival. Violent history. And we’re gonna give you a guy that would be bitter and want to rough us up 4 times a year for the rest of his career? No thanks.

All great comments on Stewart. That being said, I’d still like Siakam
