No. I expressed the same thing when we drafted him.

Again, name a super star or even a star defensive spealist PF who is questionable hands and rebounding.

How many superstar bigs period?

Biz will be good, he needs at least two or three more seasons but he is a definite NBA roleplayer at least imo.

Biyombo seems to have a great attitude and a great work ethic, these things equate to an excellent motor and if he is still the same player he is now in three years something crazy has happened.

Slam is absolutely right on this. Biz was a big gamble that isn't going to pay off. He will forever be undersized and underskilled. A fine athlete with nice shot-blocking skills who lacks an offensive game. Those who like him will continue to have hope whenever he has a teaser game. The kid works hard, and will be a decent defensive contributor off the bench, but no more than a pseudo specialist (active shotblocker).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Although I agree with most everything said here, I think we should wait at least 2 more years before we write him off. Hes only been playing basketball seriously since he was 14. I think by the beginning of next year he will be able to make a solid contribution. It was just frustrating to continuously watch his 5-6 rebound games every single game last year.

Agreed. We all knew he was going to be a project. He'll have his ups and downs. Plus it's the pre-season, can't base anything off of two pre-season games.

Also, for you guys talking about Bismack being undersized, how many players in the league have the 7'7 wingspan he has?

This 20 year old kid from the Congo has been in the NBA an entire year. He should be Dikembe Mutumbo by now.

No, no, no - I'm not giving up on him. I'm just suggesting that if a trade came along that netted us a top 10 pick for him I would have a long hard look at it.

I just dont see where he fits in the new age NBA.

One lockout season and 2 preseason games are all I need to see.

We're in win-now mode. No time to wait on Biz.

you know what, the Lakers should have traded Bynum before he broke out, because you know after 2 years in the league Bynum could have landed them assets way better then Dwight Howard

I really don't understand how people are calling him undersized. He is 6'9" but with his wingspan he has at least average length for the 5 spot. He is also very strong (especially for a 20 year old) I can see attacking him for his lack of offensive ability but his defense is already above average. Also, it is a whole lot easier to teach rebounding and offense then length athleticism or work ethic.

I think what happened here is people got too high on him last year and forgot just how raw he was. His work ethic will allow him to improve at his weak areas, we just need to give him time. Trading him for a top 10 pick at this point would be dangerous and foolish I think. What is the point of picking a 19 year old project if you are going to give up on him after a year?

Obviously he is no Hakeem Olajuwon but I don't see anything that can prevent him from becoming a Theo Ratliff type presence defensively which particularly with defensive team we seem to be building, would be extremely valuable! Another comparison I don't understand is with Serge Ibaka, I mean I know they are both from Congos but physically they are very different. Serge has always lacked the strength to be a great post defender, Bismack has clear potential in this area. All you have to do to see this is watch his matchups with Dwight Howard last season.

Well that post ended up far longer than I thought lol

at this point last year we expected Bismack to be in the D-League, or riding out the whole season on the bench because he was too raw to even contribute to our team, or playing out his contract in Spain.

Raptors fans are hyping up Valanciunas after a 2 point 0 reb preseason game comparing him to Duncan etc or getting pumped because he had a couple blocks. Bismack has already had a game where he matched the best center in the league when they were matched up, a game where he outplayed the best center in the league, multiple 7 block games, high rebounds, 14 points. REAL games. people goin crazy for Drummond cuz he put up 6 and 8 on Amir Johnson or whatever

If you asked some of "rational" posters here that are calling him a future role player how many years it would have taken for Bismack to accomplish some of those things they would have said "probably 3 or 4 years if he pans out"

He got to that level in 1 year..imagine where he could be by the time he's 25.

he actually had 12 PTS (which is nearly biyombos career high xD), 7 REBs (4Off), 2 Steals and 2 Blocks in 22 minutes in his first ever pro game. he also made a huge impact defensively and hit the gamewinning shot.
