2020 Presidential Election Thread: The Homestretch

Biden was asked about revenge and about prosecuting Trump. He stated revenge is never good in politics and he won't do it. Then he said HE would not prosecute Trump, because the president is not supposed to ever tell the Justice Department what to do. But he would appoint the strongest prosecutors in the country and allow them to make that decision based on the law.

In other words, Trump is going down.

It is the perfect answer, because it is morally correct and affirms the proper role of the President while allowing for justice to be served. IOW, Trump's mafia will pay, but not because Biden is a vindictive bastard, but because they are criminals.

If this is true (didn’t watch all of it), then this was a great answer too

I think Joe probably has a pretty good team behind him, but he still had to bring home the bacon himself and he is doing that.

His campaign has been pretty smart and he has made all of the people pushing the Sleepy Joe BS look damn stupid. While people were embarassing themselves with the hiding Biden lines he was actually playing Rope-A-Dope with Trump and like the 8th round in Kinshasha when Ali came out of his defensive posture and sliced Foreman to ribbons, Joe has been pretty cutting when he needs to be. I think he has run a good campaign and anybody who tries to discount it by claiming it is Trump's awfulness alone that defines Biden just does not get it. It was still very possible to blow this even with Trump committing hara kiri every day. Biden has delivered.

Trump only has one note to play. I call it MAGA Chopsticks (performed on a special piano made for tiny hands). He repeats himself because he is a hungry ghost that craves adulation alone. He literally has no space in his head for policy, just fame, fortune and puzzy. Now that he's too old to bang hookers and too broke to pay his bills all he has left is playing the greatest hits to his biggest fans.

His primitive brain cannot reconcile moderating his approach to appeal to a broader spectrum of Americans. To Trump, if you don't think he's totally awesome you suck. That's all he can compute. So his vanity always ensures he'll cater to those who stroke his broken ego even if it means his downfall.

He's not just stupid, he's only wired for immediate gratification. He not only lacks any vision for the country, he lacks it for himself. He literally is a walking encyclopedia on the subject of Being Your Own Worst Enemy

George Nader is a convicted pedophile who is now serving a 10 year sentence. He is a much bigger fish than those guys. Hey - Biden is actually makeing pretty good sense tonight. He wants to defund the oil industry, not ban fracking, but removing tax incentive they receive to produce oil. Pretty cool.

He was also very clear about removing Trump's tax breaks for the top 1%, or those with over $400,000 annual income. He would not increase taxes on those of us who earn less than that. Anybody here earn over $400K/year and think his tax breaks should be funded by the taxes on those who earn less?

As reported in the NY Times today, Senator Ben Sasse had a Nebraska town hall and made the following incredible statement about Trump:

Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska, castigated President Trump in a telephone town hall with constituents on Wednesday, accusing the president of bungling the response to the coronavirus pandemic, cozying up to dictators and white supremacists, and offending voters so broadly that he might cause a “Republican blood bath” in the Senate.

In a dire, nine-minute indictment of Mr. Trump’s foreign policy and what Mr. Sasse called his “deficient” values, the senator said the president had mistreated women and alienated important allies around the globe, been a profligate spender, ignored human rights and treated the pandemic like a “P.R. crisis.” He predicted that a loss by Mr. Trump on Election Day, less than three weeks away, “looks likely,” and said that Republicans would face steep repercussions for having backed him so staunchly over four tumultuous years.

So today, both Rupert Murdoch and Sen. Sasse predicted a Trum loss.

Watch as the GOP tries to pivot back to being the party of "fiscal responsibility", a sure tell that they know they are going to lose at least the presidency, preparing to spend the next 4 years trying to kill as much legislation as possible.

Biden turned every question into an opportunity to talk policy, which was smart. Polling shows that the more people know about Biden's actual policy, the more likely they are to vote for him. He hasn't had too many opportunities to make deep policy arguments with a large audience, so I'm glad he made his own opportunity there.

I think, more than anything though, every time Biden makes a public appearance the thing that jumps off the screen is his decency. Agree or disagree, I think most people leave with the impression that he genuinely cares and truly wants to help.

That counts for more than anything else in contrast to Trump.

I was watching Chris Hayes and he pointed out this is EXACTLY what the Republicans are doing and why they’re against passing the CARES ACT. They want to saddle Biden with a complete mess of an economy and pandemic then go back to bitching about being fiscally responsible which is complete bull because they all signed onto a tax cut that blew up the deficit. Democrats need to call out the game every time and proactively point out what they’re doing.
