Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
I'd like to see them come to an agreement early, but I think overall if they didn't intend to re-sign him this summer then they would've traded him last deadline. They all but said that.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
This might be the first credible report regarding Miles we've seen since the deadline:
I imagine we want a useful player coming back and a draft asset. If we don't get it just sign him to a contract that we can trade down the line.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
If a team offers a solid rotation player (uninsipiring starter, good bench guy) and a lightly protected 1st would you take that offer?
I'm torn on Miles, for more reasons that just the DV. Last year he was more of an empty stats player than ever before, it's hard to separate that from the team being dog **** though. Is he really empty calories or was he just doing the best he could because no one else was qualified to be a consistent volume scorer?
$30m is a lot. I'd probably pay it rather than let him walk but it tips me more towards wanting to trade him if not now than later.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Jake Fischer reporting Hornets discussed trading Miles Bridges for Ben Simmons back in Feb. Wow.
"Charlotte already conducted its business at February’s trade deadline as a clear rebuilding seller. The Hornets have the impending free agency of forward Miles Bridges to sort through now. And while Bridges could command upward of $30 million, sources said, the Hornets are also believed to be open to parting with Bridges by way of sign-and-trade, should a productive opportunity present itself. Charlotte, sources said, held conversations with Brooklyn about swapping Bridges in a package that would have brought Ben Simmons to the Hornets in February. Sacramento was another team that inquired about Bridges at the deadline, sources said."

Yeah it was likely Hayward, Bridges for Simmons and draft capital.
Simmons was due 80 million at that time, so unless it was something pretty good I am not upset we didn't take it.

Sounds like a potentially crap move, esp. in hindsight (the OKC haul).

This all sounds like posturing against klutch right now. I imagine they want to get him for under $30m and he wants over $30m. Get ready for a long ride. I just hope it doesn't take as long as PJ's did.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
PJ situation was totally different since he was restricted.
I think there's enough stories over the past 3 years to show that the Hornets lukewarm on Miles Bridges. They don't want to lose him for nothing but aren't obsessed with keeping him. 3 years ago when his extension was being discussed we only offered him 4 years 60 million. Last Summer we refused to go over 25 million drawing out his free agency until he settled on his qualifying offer. We heard rumors last year at the trade deadline that we tried to trade him to Phoenix and now this rumor that we tried to trade him to brooklyn. Also the rumors this week that we want to keep him for the right price but won't be heartbroken if he leaves. Also rumors that we would be interested in a sign and trade.
The signs are pretty clear, The Hornet's like miles Bridges is a player but don't love him. They're not going to be pushed into signing him into a contract they're not comfortable with.
Also with a lot of signs pointing towards we are looking to not make a hardcore push towards the playoffs next year, which is understandable given our owed to pick to the Spurs and the strength of the 2025 draft class. They may be fine with getting worse to get better strategy when it comes to miles.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Sounds like warning flares from Charlotte to other teams. If any small market team with cap space wants to get cute and try to price him out of Charlotte, we will explore trade options with teams like the Nets who don't have the capspace to bid without sending out salary in a trade.
We will not lose him for nothing. I don't care what you think about him.
It's bad business.

I know you know this, but since he's unrestricted it's not within our control to keep him from where he wants to go if the team has cap space. In light of that, I don't understand your point that there is no way we lose him for nothing.

Would just hope we could find a quality S&T partner who’d give us SOMETHING of value beyond an expensive lump of coal contract. One of those with a young starter…sure. But ultimately he can leave and say adios, or we can do the same.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Bridges for Harrison Barnes, 13 and Filler wouldn't be terrible if we like somebody that drops to that range

Example: Miles wante to play in a bigger market and has Brooklyn on his list of desired destinations he submits to Klutch.
Nets don't have the money to sign him. The only way he can get there is to work with the Hornets on a sign-and-trade.
How would the small market teams know he has no interest in a non-cap team in this scenario?
Example: small market team with sucky roster, Pistons plan to offer Miles the most money compared to all capspace teams. Even though Miles is from there, he's sick of losing and would prefer going to a more competitive team without cap space to bid with the Pistons.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
In other words, Ben. Why would the Hornets bother broadcasting that if he exceeds their spending limit they will work on trades (presumably to teams without cap space to sign him)?
If they plan to move on, I would think they have some idea of teams without cap where he'd like to play.
He doesn't have to play for a **** team just because they have cap.

Nets showed interest at the deadline, so there could be groundwork/framework there with Simmons & Suns 1sts.
Peterson knows their inner workings/thinking. If not now, at least at the deadline because he was part of the org. They offered to promote him to GM as Charlotte pursued/negotiated.

Sounds like we are moving on based from the multiple reports.
There was also a report we are interested in Williams from Chicago who is from Charlotte.
Either way I hope they are least get something out of it.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Put differently, the message to teams like the Pistons is, sure, you may have the most cap but you don't have all the control. We are aware of a market for Miles that includes non-cap teams. It's one check on reckless bidding. May or may not work. But the last thing you want is to lose him for nothing.

Yeah I would be open to something like this, but we have no say. If he gets the offer from Detroit or Utah or Philly that he likes, then he can just sign it.
Our best case is other teams spend money elsewhere, then we are in spot where he can take the offer we have or negotiate with teams who have no space, in those cases we can agree to a sign and trade.

The interest in Patrick Williams could both be real while also acting as a check on spending on Miles. If Charlotte is Miles #1 choice, he has to be mindful we have interest in players who play his position.
The rumor is we want him back at our price.
Shouldn't surprise us to see any check on a potential bidding war.

It's bad business.
My guess at our priorities with this negotiation
1) Sign Miles at our price
2) Sign-and-trade to a desirable team to Miles who doesn't have the $ to compete with Pistons etc.
3) Sign Miles at the Pistons' price.
4) Let Miles walk for nothing
I think many here can agree to this strategy. Some may want to reverse 3 & 4 on the priority list.
That is bad business. Patrick Williams is okay, I guess. Still bad business. Miles is a much better player.
