Re: Official Trade Thread XV
I'm sure I posted this (or something like it) before, but I think think it works for both teams:
Wizards trade: Hinrich, Blatche, Thornton, and Yi
Pacers trade: Ford, Posey, Jones, Hansbrough, and first
TRADE ID 5854931
It's essentially cap neutral for us, gives us another pick, and add hustling defenders to finalize the culture change. If you think the Wiz should get more, maybe we can get Foster's expiring instead of Posey.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
how about a few ideas:
Pacers have Granger at the sf and have paid him big bucks. They just drafted Paul George who is also a 6-9 sf, who folks have compared to Tmac,.. not sure how realisitc that is. If you all want to dump Blatche, then maybe he would match up well with Hibbert and Granger.
Hinrich, Blatche, Thorton (exp)
for
Ford (exp), Posey, George
I'd rather just make it Blatche for George, but I think the Pacers want to get rid of Ford, and probably want to get out of Posey's deal and get an expiring back. Hinrich and Thorton have more value than Ford/Posey. We can then just buyout Ford if he is a bad influence and maybe Posey so they can resign with a playoff team. Hinrich is nice to have around, but I think Sam Cassell is probably as good, if not a better mentor to Wall than Hinrich.

George has shown enough flashes that I highly doubt he gets traded unless it's for a similarly high ceiling player that plays PF. Its a shame, last season Blatches value was so high if the Pacers offered the 10th pick for the Wiz they'd have gotten laughed at. Now theres not even a snowballs chance for the Wiz to use him for a prospect with decent upside.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
Going back to the old Milwaukee-rebuilding-and-moving-Bogut idea that has been talked about on the Trade Board and a few dozen pages back, and considering Portland's predicament:
Milwaukee send: Bogut, Gooden (or Maggette)
Milwaukee recieve: Oden, Babbitt, Blatche (or Yi etc.), Portland 1st
Washington send: Hinrich, Blatche (or Yi etc.)
Washington recieve: Pryzbilla, Andre Miller
Portland send: Andre Miller, Oden, Babbitt, Pryzbilla, 1st
Portland recieve: Bogut, Gooden, Hinrich
Portland pull themselves back into the realm of upper echelon teams. Milwaukee rebuild and move a sheety contract, get a first and get a chance to inspect Oden's knees for themselves while also getting a prospect and a pick.
Why I like this for us is that we get a tough C to play behind McGee and also do a little mentoring, while we also replace the mentoring Wall role of Hinrich with Miller, all while clearing cap space.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Love it for the Wiz! I was working on something similar yesterday, but with NJ instead of Milwaukee. I was also targeting the Pryz/Miller package.
I can see the Blazers balking at taking back that much salary. True, they get the most talent but I'm not sure they want to add all that to their cap. For Milwaukee, I would think they'd want to keep Bogut in a rebuild scenario since he's young and on a decent contract. IMO they'd be looking to unload Maggette, Gooden, and Salmons.

I'm not interested in dumping Blatche and Hinrich for nothing at all. What exactly do you proposed to do with the cap room? There aren't any good free agents this summer.
If Blatche can't get back more value than merely expiring contracts, then I'm not willing to trade him right now. I'd rather wait a year and see if he can improve his shot-jacking ways. If he doesn't, I think a Blatche for expiring contract trade will be on the table sometime next year. There's no rush.

BOYD deals to help teams get under the new cap? Maybe we don't get the picks in 2011, but we could rack up picks for 2012.

Yep, Indiana fans love George and it seems like they'd choose him over Granger. As surprising as that sounds, that's the vibe I've gotten. If that's true and the front-office feels the same way, I think we should make a play for Danny.
What about...
Suns Incoming: Blatche
Suns Outgoing: Pietrus, 2011 first
Washington Incoming: Granger, Posey, Ford
Washington Outgoing: Blatche, Hinrich, Thornton, Yi, 2011 first (top 3 protected, unprotected after)
Indiana Incoming: Hinrich, Pietrus, Yi, Suns 1st, our 1st
Indiana Outgoing: Granger, Posey, Ford
Indiana could cut the Suns out but I really don't think they want Blatche. After the brawl it seems they refuse to take on anyone who even might be a headache. If they wanted Lopez they might be able to swap him in for the first but with Hibbert I assumed they'd value the Suns' pick more. This is just a premise and I think Indiana needs another piece of youth. I really hate throwing in one of Booker or Seraphin but Granger just might be worth it. Wall-Young-Granger-Lewis-McGee looks pretty good to me. IDK what do you guys think?

I'd rather not give up our 2011 first rounder...It has the potential to land us a game changer...That being said, Granger is a game changer...but I'm not sure I'd give up that much for Granger. I'd take my chances with the lottery and see if we can land Sullinger or Perry, although I think Kanter is what this team really needs.

Granger will be 30 by the time this team is ready to make a run, and probably in the last year of his contract.
I like him, but id rather a younger SF.

There's only two potential game changers in this draft IMO. Perry Jones & Jonas Valanciunas. And both are years away at best from getting there if they ever do. Guys like Sullinger, Williams or whoever you throw into the mix are nice pieces to add but don't necessarily look like difference makers to me.
I wouldn't be against a trade for a young veteran. I know that goes against Ted's rebuilding plan but this might be the one draft (like that '00 draft with KMart or '01 draft with Kwame) where it might be wise to trade out. We might get better value from a trade than we would a rookie with major limitations or flaws.

Danny Granger will be 28 before this season is over. I've already made it clear that I would take T. Jones, but even if you dont like Jones, in the above trade we're passing on a host of other 18,19,20 year old prospects in the draft while giving up all of our other trading chips for a player who's 8 years older than John Wall.

I was thinking about the fact that Dwight Howard is going to be a FA in 2012, and wondering if there was any way we could arm ourselves for the trade bait to land him if he doesn't want to stay in Orlando. We probably wouldn't be his first choice in free agency, but if we were the best trade partner, he may agree to sign an extension.
2011:
Washington sends: Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee, Kyrie Irving (1st or 2nd pick in the draft)
Washington Receives: Francisco Garcia, Demarcus Cousins
Sacremento sends: Francisco Garcia, Demarcus Cousins
Sacremento receives: Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee, Kyrie Irving
Trade ID #5856630
2012:
Washington Sends: Kirk Hinrich (expiring), Demarcus Cousins, 2012 1st round draft pick (top 3 protected), 2014 1st round draft pick-unprotected
Washignton Receives: Dwight Howard
Orlando Sends: Dwight Howard
Orlando Receives: Kirk Hinrich (expiring), Demarcus Cousins, 2012 1st round draft pick (top 3 protected), 2014 1st round draft pick-unprotected
Washington Lineup:
C: Dwight Howard
PG:John Wall
SG:Nick Young
PF: Booker/Seraphin/TBD
SF: TBD (needs solid range from the perimeter possibly Michael Beasley/2012 FA)

Good grief! You sure are giving up a lot for Cousins.
I don't think there's any need to formulate a long range plan to go after Howard. Our plan for Howard is simple: accumulate as much talent as possible while maintaining cap room in 2012. Our chances of acquiring Howard are slim, but they only way to do so is to convince Howard that we're good enough to win with him, while also having enough leftover talent to send to Orlando in a S&T.
If we acquire a talented basketball player in the draft, and if McGee continues to improve, maybe we can win 40 games or so next year. That should be good enough to pique Howard's interest. Then, next summer, we offer an improved McGee plus three future 1sts for Howard. It's not a fair deal, but there is no fair deal to get Howard. The only way to get Howard is if he demands a trade and considers our city a potential destination. At that point, we'd only be competing with a few other suitors - hopefully none of whom will have a center with McGee's potential to offer in return.

Re: Official Trade Thread XV
Dunk contest commentator Dwight Howard is a fan of Javale McGee. "I'm proud of Javale McGee" were his exact words. All the Wizards need to do is keep McGee and Wall and plant the seed now that with Howard at C and Javale at PF/C they would be like Duncan and Robinson, Hakeem and Sampson prior to Ralph's injury, and far more athletic than Gasol with Bynum.
The Wizards have Rashard and Josh Howard--guys with finals experience.
Swap EG for Otis Smith? Jameer to D.C.?
All the Wizards need for NBA title hopes in as little as two years is Dwight Howard and a coach like Joerger around what they already have. McGee can play PF and with Dwight Howard at C the two would be very hard to stop.

CCJ, I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that McGee will be traded in any scenario involving the acquisition of Howard. If nothing else, we're not going to pay Howard a max salary and then pay McGee the $7-10M a year required to keep him - not when he plays the same position as Howard. It would be a much more prudent use of resources to spend that money on a natural PF or SF.
If our 2011 draft pick pans out, there won't really be much need for McGee. The way I see it, our roster will look something like this:
PG Wall
SG Young
SF Lewis/2012 pick
PF D.Williams/Booker
C Howard/Seraphin
We'll trade Blatche for a 2012 pick and send that pick along with McGee and future picks for Howard.

The Howard dream needs to stop (at least so seriously).
If he were to go anywhere (and I doubt he will), I suspect LA to take over the reins of the Lakers.

Agreed. While I consider the acquistion of Howard to be within the realm of possibility, it is by no means likely enough to start making long range plans for it.
The following things must happen before a Howard to DC proposal is feasible:
* We must retain max, or near-max cap room in 2012
* Howard must want out of Orlando
* We need to win at least 40 games next year and generate buzz as an "up and coming" franchise like Chicago was last year.
* Wall needs to approach superstar status by the second half of next year - at least as good as Russell Westbrook or Rajon Rondo - an hopefully in the same tier as Paul, Rose and Deron.
* We need our 2011 draft pick to look like a future star-caliber player, not necessarily a superstar, but at least project to be roughly as good as Serge Ibaka or Rudy Gay.
* We need McGee to improve enough to where his trade value is significant. And Blatche also needs to improve or be traded for future picks/prospects to use as trade bait.
If all these things come to pass, then, and only then should we seriously discuss Howard. The only thing we can control is step 1 - maintaining 2012 cap room. That's the only thing I'd worry about for now.

Between Odom, Gasol, and Bynum, SOMEBODY plays the same position. They exist symbiotically because they each bring something different to the table. Javale and Dwight are only alike in height and intensity, nate.
It is a forgone conclusion that Flip is a good coach. It was somebody's idea that one year of Miller and Foye would be better than Seth Curry or DeJuan Blair. I told you Blair could go lottery after 5 and be a good pick.
Sending Blatche and a high pick isn't necessary. Sending McGee isn't necessary. Conventional wisdom and forgone conclusions got the Wizards a 26-56 record with a luxury tax payroll, this year's sorry team, and a bunch of posters who call these players morons and imbeciles.
I told you what I think, nate. Wizards need to keep their young talent and in subtle ways not against league rules get a player like Howard to want to come to DC.
Don't even tell me McGee cannot be on the same team. Howard can force his way out of Orlando any way he wants to.

Sorry, but Dwight Howard destroyed Javale like he was a 4'11 little girl with pigtails every time they play. He might be proud as peaches of him, but he's got no reason to want to play with him. It's Wall that is the attraction to play with the Zards - and that's pretty much it right now. Javale can become a very good player, but Hakeem, Ralph, The Admiral, and Dwight and even Pau were studs from day 1. It's sacriledge (I tells ya) to make any kind of comparison of Javale to those guys.
