Would be the best thing they can do. Has shown he can operate under a rebuild, competitive team, and also manage luxury tax concerns. Always drafted well at the top of the draft. Knicks would alleviate the luxury tax concerns he constantly has to worry about and he pretty much has a blank slate to work with. This is the right Sam to hire.
As opposed to L. Jackson?
Presti would make a lot of sense. That would be equivalent to the Red Sox making a huge offer to Billy Beane to run their organization after still being bound by the "Curse of the Bambino". Billy Beane refused.
Still, OKC is a small market and limited resources wise. The Knicks could be attractive with their unlimited personnel and facilities budget... as well as their ability to offer a massive contract.
I'm not sure how it works when hostily pursuing a current GM/President under contract. Ideally, the president, GM and coach would be a mix of the following pool:
President and GM Combo's - Don Nelson, RC Buford, Presti, Ujiri, Grffin, Ainge (No Riley)
President - Jerry West
GM - I still like Perry but the next hire will probably be GM and President
Coach - Stevens, Carlisle, Budenholzer, Spolestra, Gentry, Rivers, Malone, Snyder, Popovich (I am impressed with Clifford and Beilein but can't put them in this group)
