He's talking about the 'slap in the face' Houston gave him by having the Melo pics in Lin's number while Lin is still on the team.
Everyone knows Lin is gone, but its still kind of a crappy thing to do.

I watched the 'Linsanity' doc like 3 weeks ago, and pretty much everything he said was to follow God's way and believe in him the most when things are not working out the way you want, so yeah, big time religious guy.
it's a little over dramatic though, you're just moving teams in the NBA I don't think that requires a dramatic bible quote.

There was a report that the Mavs wont offer any max deals

Or it might open up ground for a SnT in this crazy Melo/Lowry scenario. Not saying it's probable but there is a slight chance for all this to go down.
I think I figured it out, but it requires New York and Toronto to play ball.
Houston sends Lin + 2015 first to Philly for cap space.
Houston sends Asik to New Orleans for Austin Rivers + 2015 pick
New York signs and trades Melo to Houston for capspace for some incentive. New York gets a huge trade asset with the TPE and perhaps a pick or international prospect. What I am unclear on here is what salary Melo would be at. Would it be at Rockets cap space amount or Rockets cap space + the 125% or 5 million.
Toronto signs and trades Lowry to Houston for Rivers + Jones + Dmo + Motie + whomever to get to Lowry's starting salary.

sure...but a little perspective, you're still in the NBA and still making millions of dollars. I don't think Jesus was thinking of a guy in Lins situation when he said that quote.

That's what I was just trying to figure out. It must have been a lot less than 2 hours of face time.
Why even make the trip?

"Out of town stupid" is a perfect way of putting it.
Simmons always gets a bee in his bonnet when he thinks teams are cheaping out. See his nonstop flogging of the OKC Harden trade. He often makes good points in his rants, but just as often he exaggerates or forms a biased view of what actually happened. So Simmons has the "Reinsdorf is cheap" meme burned into his brain. Oh well, he's not the only one.
In any event, it's no particular talent to talk about how you'd spend more of other people's money than they are.
Dude I wouldn't cut Simmons any slack. He makes a lot of money to talk basketball and ignorance to the history and facts of the topic he is discussing is not forgivable.
Look at a guy like David Aldridge who doesn't go over the top with criticism and has decent to excellent knowledge of almost every team. He also doesn't just make sh%t up if he doesn't know he says so.
