Free Throw shooting video is a bit concerning.

Now I don’t believe at all he’s turning into Fultz at the line, but the hitch looks noticeable when he’s at at line. Every video we’ve seen this summer his jumper has looked much smoother. Definitely needs to work on his ft form. We can’t have him looking to avoid contact at the rim hoping he doesn’t get fouled so he won’t go to the line.

Needs to gain the confidence at the line. I want him getting at least 5 fta per game with an average of 75%.

How is that top notch scoring?

43/32/64 for the season, he was coming off an injury when he got here not to mention a talent deficient team that was 10-40. If you are worried about injuries that is fair, but if healthy there is no way he doesn't improve massively from the 21 game sample we got last year

You're right. I misread the table.

But that season slash line is also terrible, as is his career slash. So it's not a 21 game sample.

So it still begs the question: How is he a top notch scorer?

Moving goal posts? You began asking for clarification on his passing and when I respond you move on to trying to discredit his scoring? THIS is why I say there are stat wonks looking to play funny with data to discredit one guy while inflating/projecting numbers to bolster another.

I feel like people are very effusive about what he brings in his role.

Precisely, confining Trier in the 6th man role which seems to be the consensus here might be a mistake. What if he's too good to stay in "his role"? If he shows he can be a more willing passer, he could and should compete for a spot in the starting lineup and who knows even become a star in this league. He's the only shot creator on our roster who had an above-average TS% last season besides Randle. I could be wrong but I just think we're underselling his upside.

If Frank and Trier end up as our starting backcourt we'll see a few heads here explode

But we won't just like we'll never see defrosted crow. :eyebrows:

You're the one who said he was a top notch scorer. Only you know why you chose to say that.

I think the question of how you came to that conclusion about a guy who has proven to not be very good at actually putting the ball in the basket without wasting a ton of possessions thus far in his career is a very fair one.

Shooting %'s aren't even a wonky stat. They are as basic at it gets. I noticed you aren't disputing their accuracy, just that they are being used at all.

You made a claim on a message board. I asked for your reasoning on that claim. This is how a message board works.

If you said something that you aren't capable of backing up in any way, that's fine. If you can back it up, then do so. Forums exist for back and forth. No need for the sensitivity.

So are APG, you know that stat that started this discussion that you needed further clarification on? The one to back up that he's wasn't the garbage passer he was purported to be? I backed it up. You sought out the next series of words to numbers soup. Not being sensitive, just swatting you when you poke, which you know you're doing. That's all.

Cool. Now will you clarify how he's a top notch scorer or will you keep dancing around the question?

Average mpg are nearly the same over the first 3 years as well. I think DSJr might have played 1 mpg more, which obviously isn't significant

Dennis main issue isn’t even the hitch not to say that isn’t a issue but the root is deeper and starts with confidence. Kid mentally checks out at the free throw line for some reason

I’m actually not too worried about that one video with the bad free throw shot. I mean he’s done a bunch of open court stuff this summer another shot like that would have leaked. There’s no way you can do that Seattle Pro Am or work out with Trae that are basically in public settings. Can’t control all those people watching like they could in that infamous video. Plus we don’t even know when that video is taken. It could be from May for all we know.

The last time a video was released with DSJ's form looking very hitchy, it turns out he was shooting with a weighted ball.

For all we know, that is the case again.

We all want to see an improved jumper, but reading tea leaves from 4 FT's isn't going to get us anywhere.

But I know we're all just stir crazy

The video would be less concerning if he wasn't such a poor ft shooter in general. His mechanics looked awful last year so its really not about that video in isolation
