Rightly or wrongly, we just don't appear interested in international prospects at all.

I think Miami's philosophy these days seems to be big school, local and we're comfortable taking Freshman too.

I'm liking us looking at Achiuwa or Nesmith. They appear to be the two guys who are late lotto but could also fall through to 20 too. Either one of those guys would be excellent choices at #20 IMO. Clear roles for each of them in our team.

I'm convinced 20 is gone. We have to be buying into the early 2nd round. This is the perfect year for that tbh. I'm so eager for this offseason to take off. Blue balls buddy.

It's the vibe I'm getting too DoM. Expecting us to trade back and nab someone like Carey Jr or Quickley, and perhaps a future protected FRP or some chit.

Next week is going to be a lot of fun. Me and a few mates of mine always take Draft day off work, eat a chit load of Maccas (McDonalds) and enjoy the theatrics. This one promises to be arguably the best yet, with minimal consensus beyond (maybe?) the top 3 talents in this draft - and a hell of a lot of question marks and intrigue. I'm hyped.

I feel like Hagans is someone we're trying to push to go Undrafted and get him in our development system.

Perhaps a 2-way if he plays well and shows something.

Been a lot of smoke with Quickley - MWP may get his man, we'll see.

I do find it strange we're practicing mostly bigs, mostly late first/early second type players.

So trading back seems logical - but what for? what are we getting? what's the move?

We're going to trade the pick. It's the Miami way.

Maybe we’re getting a second back in the deal that allegedly in place?

Fox+35/43, Beal+37, Jrue+39?

Or we’re trading back with Philly to she’s money and nab players we want - 20 for 34+36?

If the long play is the add that third star, we better keep every rookie we got because you can't find better cost/value ratio then a rookie contract.

Bam + Jimmy + Added star will take around 90% of the cap, then we'll have to pay Duncan. A good player on a rookie deal is practically a golden financial asset to have.

Just because we're working out prospects that are likely to be drafted late 1st/early 2nd, doesn't mean we're trading down. I don't even understand how trading down from 20 to 2 2nd rounders would be a good move.

The long play means that you're going to lose a star in Butler, either through decline or retirement(which he's mentioned not playing too far into his 30s). So it's quite possible the longer Miami waits on adding a 3rd star the less time they'll possibly have 3 stars.

It kinda looks like we’re hedging our bets.

If Nesmith, Achiuwa or Anthony are on the board, we may look very close at keeping the selection. If they’re gone, we’ve got guys we’ve looked closely at and can move back in the draft and try select one of those.

We don’t know the other 4-5 guy we’ve worked out, so will be interesting to see what happens on Draft night.

Anthony is the kind of player you hope gets drafted before we pick. Also, you're being too optimistic. You can't just trade back like 10-20 spots and hope the player you like is available. The Heat wouldn't do that.

We might have a deal in place with a team selecting in the 40-45 range (Kings, Wizards) that IF the player we liked is still on the board when their 5 minutes are up to make to pick, they trade him to us.

So I guess some of the other names we saw didn't really practice for us. These are the confirmed ones :

Cole Anthony - smallish scoring guard
Zeke Njaji - big alethic, limited offense
Vernon Carey - dropped a ton of weight, rumored of improved shooting
Aaron Nesmith - Elite shooting wing
Precious Achiuwa - big alethic, limited offense
Jalen Smith - Stretch 5

We're all over the place, I'm highest on Jalen Smith and Nesmith, lowest on Cole Antony.

I am curious what are the 10 allowed workouts definitions are. Because Pat Riley did attend the Wildcats proday. Are these 10 that specifically for workouts in Miami?

the NBA has set a one-month time frame from Oct. 16 to Nov. 16 for teams to meet in-person with the 2020 NBA Draft prospects. Prior to this announcement, teams had been only meeting with the players remotely via video conference. The 2020 NBA Draft will be on Nov. 18.Teams receiving up to two visits per player; no more than 10 total among prospects.

Ok I found my answer. So the 10 workouts are for workouts that the Heat host. The reports that the Heat attended the Wildcats proday, McDaniel, Mannion and Oturu workout do not count as the 10.

If we can keep Vernon Carey Jr at 230ish weight he’s our guy. If we go big i want the local kid with UD grooming him.

Return to Miami Heat
