It's quite simple to understand why Stevens decided to resign from the head coach position:
He knows Ainge's replacement was going to fire him to bring in a new head coach, now he gets to extend his years in Boston by moving into the front office.

Ainge is good but what kept him from being great was his inability to cash in his chips because of his greed. Ultimately it’s why his post-KG/Pierce/Allen failed.
I still think he would be great here if given the right opportunity and resources.
If he cashed in like people wanted there would be no Tatum in boston
As usual, there’s a balance. He did well with Tatum but considering that war chest he built from scamming the Nets, the Celtics should be ahead of where they are. Finally, he did try to cash in (according to every post-trade report for every superstar ever) but he also destroyed Celtics culture too. Players know that he tries to do them dirty, he refutes his own players’ experiences with racism in Boston, and GMs know his rep for trading.
Edit: also the fact that this report leaks right after his Celtics get eliminated while the jazz are still playing? Is he gunning for another guy’s job?

All jokes aside, Ainge is a legend. The amount of genius trades Ainge almost made won him 4 almost championships. Even if we can't stand him, it's tough to argue with a resume like that.

That's like the fifth time last year he advocates/criticizes hiring/firings due to guys being white. How is this racist still working?

You’re turning down a 2 way super star wing that’s not even in his prime yet?

I don't think Tatum, Randle, and the one guy we'd be able to afford after is going to be enough.

Not unless he wants out and requests a trade. Doesn’t sound like he’s happy right now
