If this is accurate, Giannis a distant third.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/33617040/nba-mvp-straw-poll-nikola-jokic-joel-embiid-where-race-stands-two-weeks-left-season

Basically he would need to dominate embiid tonight and kd and the nets next and put the bucks into first place this week.

That might start moving him some first place votes, which right now he only has a few.

If Giannis dominates, outplays embiid gets the W, pass embiid for second one the scoring title race, and already hehas better stats than embiid it could steal a bunch of embiid #1 votes.

Dominate and pass Kareem with two back to back 40 pts games could be a sellable narrative.

It will be a bit humorous if the Nuggets end up 7th and Jokic wins MVP. And to be clear, I love Jokic.

Agreed that if Gianni has big games (like 35-15-7 type games) against Philly, Brooklyn and then Boston and Dallas, it *might* sway a few voters and maybe he'll move into second place in the voting. But I don't think suddenly 30-40 voters are going to vault him into first place. Sounds like most of them have made up their minds.

Based on what Freak said, I don't think he's gunning for MVP (or the scoring title). Remains to be seen, still, whether or not the Bucks care about #1 seed given that it's basically on a silver platter for whoever wants to claim it.

Not super bothered by Giannis winning MVP since he's basically in the LeBron/Michael zone - can't give it to him every year, but this team is shambles without him. My question will be if Jokic joins Giannis in the "well, he already won two awards for being amazing" and basically also gets discounted in the future, despite being a dominant player. Because there's honestly not much more Jokic can add to his bag aside from becoming a lockdown defender, and that's just not happening.

Even if Gianni doesn't win this season there's no reason why he can't win another. Had the Bucks been a clear #1 seed this season a la Phoenix (a 60-win team), he'd be getting considerably more shine than at least Embiid.

No problem with Jokic winning it. He's clearly been the best regular season player the last two years and it's an RS award. What's incredibly stupid is this lingering refusal to acknowledge the obvious fact that Giannis is the best player in the world and has been for probably the last 3-4 years. Every year in that timeframe it's been somebody new (Kawhi, Lebron, Durant, Curry) because the depth of analysis by media and casuals doesn't extend beyond what you've done in your most recent playoff series, which ironically still doesn't make sense considering Giannis just had one of the most dominant Finals series ever. Bill Simmons was right. If not already there, he's becoming the most dismissed/disrespected superstar of this generation.

Interesting wrinkle on the scoring title: LBJ has played in 55 games. It takes 58 to qualify for the scoring title. If they shut him down for the season because of his ankle injury, Giannis's chances at the title improve significantly.

This is going to be the "KD's toe was on the line" voters point to when they explain why the scoring champion who won DPOY wasn't MVP.

Giannis currently has the 5th best odds to win DPOY.

It's hard to close the distance when you come out in interviews and say that you simply don't care for more individual awards anymore. When he was battling with Harden a few years ago you could see his hunger in game, the meanmugs, the "I am the King/MVP" shouts etc..
He is all business this season. You barely see him do a meanmug anymore after dunks.

Yea like the mvp, the ship has likely sailed on the dpoy too. I honestly think it’s more deserving candidates too like JJJ, Smart, Timelord.

The only chance Giannis realistically has of winning MVP this year is if Denver falters so much down the stretch that people are uncomfortable voting for Jokic and that seems very unlikely. I think Giannis almost certainly finishes 3rd but he probably should be 2nd.

Really not sure anyone has an actual clue on how to vote for some of these awards this season. Think I’d legitimately feel better if they just rewarded the Suns and gave them everything.

I used to be a watch guy, at some point I had a navi, a seamaster and a subbie along with a couple of pretty rare old omegas, until I caught myself wearing almost exclusively a giant seiko diver because it was so big I could actually see the time from everywhere, the lume never died, and it was practically indestructible. So by not wearing them I progressively lost interest and sold everything, I've only kept a collectible Squale which is my favourite piece although not too expensive.

Funny enough collecting watches is actually an easy way to make money if you invest some time to understand the market. It's a great hobby.

His season has been incredible, even if the Bucks as a team have been good or very good but unspectacular. This kid is so consistently awesome it's hard not to think of him as the MVP, even if Jokic is breaking all the geek stats. Some would say it's more impressive to put up big numbers next to All-Star caliber players like Jrue and Khris.
