I don't think Portland sees Watford as just expendable salary. Not high level, of course, but not just expendable. I think they'd view Nas that far, far more than Watford. Watford is a valve relief ballhandler for the second unit who continues to show improvement, imo.

What are everyone's expectations for tomorrow?
The only player in the 20's that Portland has worked out is Maxwell Lewis who Tankathon lists as
a late FRP.
Is there going to be a late trade involving 23?

Why? He’s on a good contract and this is a deep draft

As much as I’d love to see a Zion trade, I suspect it could be pretty boring. Blazers take Scoot, maybe they finally do a small deal with Chicago to unlock their future picks, they then trade 23 in a small deal for a bench guy from a playoff team… maybe someone who fits into a TPE they have like the 8mil GP exception.
Maybe keeping an eye on a guy like Toppin from Knicks. Apparently he’s pretty unhappy in NY because of his role, so they may want to move off of him for a first rounder and cap.

This draft has depth I hope we use both picks. I donr care if a bench guy Is inexperienced in a big man role as long as he can get hard fouls and play with energy. I'm hoping Scoot 3 unless we have a superstar available, then draft a big at 23

Portland does have big need for a PF, especially if Jerami Grant walks.
Love Scoot if he's Portland's pick at 3 but he does nothing to solve Portland's big needs at
PF. Even if Nurk suddenly became the Bosnian Beast that he was in 2017, he's Portland's
only real rebounder and front court defender.
I'd love to package Ant + 23 for a big guy who rebounds and blocks shots

I wish I knew more about the CAVs discussions. I just don't see anything on that roster I believe is gettable and worth a first. Could be a 3 team deal I suppose I'm just not sure what that package would bring back.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
I don't think landing Scoot means Dame leaves. Dame already got the bag. What is better for his legacy? Being the Portland GOAT and being the mentor to a potential future all-star? Or demanding a trade to maybe get one 'chip ring chasing? Nobody views Ray Allen as a member of the Miami Heat. But then, nobody in 2023 views Ray Allen outside of He Got Game.
And, again, if it's amicable, I'm fine if the Blazers do trade Dame. That's just the cycle of an NBA team. Teams get old and you need to rebuild. This dual timeline path just hurts the young and the old. But it's profitable. I'd pay to see Dame. Not sure I'd pay to see some 17 win team just so I can brag that I saw Sharpe before he was cool.

If anyone is a podcast listener, Lowe Post did about 20 minutes on just the Blazers, #3, Zion and Dame with Giovanny. Not a whole lot of new news there tho outside of the “it’s Dame or the pick” talk is overrated, still likely the Blazers just draft and nothing happens via trade, that big splash trade just doesn’t seem to be there anyway, and then throwing some cold water on the Zion trade for good measure.

Blazers fo might be waiting for an 11th hour sort of deal

The theory is that teams best offers will be at that 11th hour, but if there isn’t already anything close, not sure there’s much to wait for.
Things change fast and even Giovanny said as much, but sure seems like the least likely option at the moment.
Hoping for fireworks, but prepared for a snooze fest.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
I've tended to hate trading young players for pick 3 will be a guy who is under control by
Portland through his second contract. It's those rookie contracts of Scoot and Sharpe that
helps the team afford to pay Dame and Jerami Grant
Rather than the desperation move, make moves this summer to improve the team's defense,
rebounding and add size to their front court. Team needs a secondary big that is better than
Eubanks and can use Simons and 23 to help get that player.

Come at me, but I would love to get Zach back using the TPE. Much better player than some names thrown around like Obi Toppin. Maybe into TPE and we give them Keon for change.
Do the DDR trade, use 3 on Scoot, trade Nas for Wade if CLE has interest -
G - Damian Lillard / Scoot Henderson (3)
G - Shadeon Sharpe / Scoot Henderson (3)
F - Demar DeRozan / Matisse Thybulle / Jett Howard (23)
F - Jerami Grant / Dean Wade / Jabari Walker JR
C - Jusuf Nurkic / Zach Collins / Drew Eubanks

To me, this is just feeling like the amount teams motivated to freeze out Portland from a making big deal with the #3 pick outweigh the amount of teams that are interested in a youth rebuild even if they get Scoot Henderson.

Idk about a snooze fest myself. If Portland adds Scoot and another solid rookie tonight, this franchise already is working towards an A offseason. I think the anxiety of “what do we do?!” Is getting a little carried away.

Re: What to do about the draft? (2023 Tank + Draft Thread)
For what it’s worth, the betting markets have changed and Scoot and Miller are back to being about a 50/50 shot.
A sports betting guy was just on 1080 and said he’s hearing from multiple sources that Miller being a lock to Charlotte like Woj said isn’t necessarily a done deal. Seems like the market might be hearing things too and that’s why Miller lost about 200 points as the favorite for 2 and it’s about a dead heat.
