He is the key to the positionless system McD has been cultivating. There will be plenty of minutes to go around. He will help Benders development as much as anything this organization could do.

3+1 would be ideal

It's a super huge risk for a guy that has missed almost half of his games the last two years to sign him only to probably have a team that gets eliminated in the first round and slow down development of our players and go back to those mid first round picks.

But, ti would be fun to watch if healthy and maybe we win a round in a few years. And we already have quite a few nice players from the last 4 drafts so perhaps we have enough, and we likely wouldn't have gotten a top 5 pick this coming year anyway, so you might as well accelerate and get a premier player when available.

He would definitely put a face on the franchise for the casual fan.

It's not particularly risky though. Worst come to worst he doesn't play and the suns essentially tank anyway. In three years they will have either an opt out or a $35 million expirering with which to add talent.

I listened to the Zach Lowe/Ramona podcast and she said she thinks Blake's going back to LA. Didn't even mention PHX or anything. So yeah, I'm guessing this isn't very serious. Maybe his agent trying to get him a full max. Another thing they mentioned was the Clippers didn't want to offer CP3 the full max.

I mean my god! The Suns have never landed a big free agent. Looks like we are legitimately close and half the fans want to walk away. All they lose is cap space. With Bled, Chandler, Knight, Dudly they still have contracts they can move to create flexibility.

Interesting. Hoopshype has the same cap space figure available and it's not including any cap holds. I added up the salaries myself.

Shouldn't be an issue as they could cut Barbosa and trade Dudley.

Well, it's a writer/mod for the forum here who does it so it could be wrong but it is pretty extensive. I was trying to check the cells and look at the formulas but I don't know all the rules.

Trading Dudley is the easiest solution. The is very tradeable. It would be dumb to dump a guy like Warren on a rookie contract who has more upside and just broke out when you could just trade a cheerleader. I love Duds, but you gotta do what's best for the team in the long run.

long run.... Dudley's deal ends..... and Warren will cost us plenty.

It doesn't matter. If we sign Blake, we will be at the cap and you can always re-sign your own free agents, even if at or over the cap. We should hang on to the players we have the rights to for awhile, especially if they produce and add value.

I think if he meets with us on Saturday and we give him the contract he is looking for he is a Sun. The more stories that come out about Doc and his nepotism the more I think Blake is ready for a new situation. Also, he is our top prior it looks like. Miami and Boston are focused on Hayward. That gives us an advantage.

It likely isn't very serious, but it's fun to talk about and imagine a lineup with Blake in it. I hope Bledsoe and maybe even Dudley (familiar faces) can sell him on Phoenix.

I caution people to think that dumping any of Knight, Chandler, or Dudley will be simple. We all the know the issue with Knight so no need to bring that up. But Chandler and Dudley are a little different in that they could actually help a playoff or near playoff team BUT the problem is most of those teams don't have the cap space to simply absorb them and the ones that do like Boston or Miami are going to be chasing bigger fish on the FA market and aren't taking them. Most of the cap space teams are rebuilding so I don't see them having much interest taking older players like them when they could chase some of the younger FA's. Now later on when the free agency musical chairs has stopped and some teams have space they need to use then you might be able to dump a guy but I just don't see early in the FA period unless you want to attach an asset.

Important lesson that you need to be REALY careful when considering giving money to role players.

I agree, it's not that risky given where we are as a franchise, because like you say, if he is injured the whole time we still are bad and the young guys develop, etc...it would then be just a big waste of cap space, which we are used to.

I don't know why you think we would definitely have an opt out. I doubt he will go for that. Maybe he would have an opt out.

I think so. I think that would put us somewhere between $73-74 million and the cap is $99.

I think if it comes down to it, we should just trade away a first and put protection on it to trade Knight. I'd rather do that than stretch him (I think). As long as it never becomes unprotected and turns into 2 seconds or something.

It's amazing if we didn't have the Knight, Chandler and Dudley contracts that's like $37 million this year. Three guys that mostly sit on the bench.

Yeah, no one seems to worry about these bad contracts. They have not moved the needle one iota and while they have been on the roster we have gotten worse. Well no one likes the Knight contract but puts up with the Chandler and Dudley contracts. They are both bad as well and will be hard to move.

I really think that if he does not sign with the Clippers tomorrow he is ours on Saturday. That is if we really want him and he passes the physical we should and must have with him prior to consummating a max deal.

I think the vast majority want to sign him. I've mentioned I'm fine either way as I'm excited about the rebuild but would also be excited signing him. There are probably a few who don't want him at all, but not many.

The reason I mentioned Dudley would probably be easy to move was because I have seen Bucks fans kind of want him back. Knowing you are also a Bucks fan, do you not agree with this?

That's what I was saying. He would opt out. A player option. He will want to have that option so he can sign a new deal after 10 years of service at 35% of the cap.

Brough it up a couple days ago. Given that he missed all of his first season but won ROY in his second season, which season counts for his 10th year if service? It may end up being he wants a 2+1 with the PO.

Not me. I don't want to walk away, I want to run away. Full speed, turbo-charged, whatever it takes to put some serious distance between us and the idea that it makes sense to pay huge dollars to Blake Griffin. Even if Sarver is demanding that Ryan make this offer, I predict it will create a job opening at the top end of the Suns franchise. And soon.

I'm not your typical "tank" fan. I've always been against the idea. I didn't believe we were just running in place when we were a one and done team nor did I buy into the "treadmill" label. I had no problem continuing with our old approach, each year hoping we'd get lucky enough to find ourselves among the real contenders. But we finally made a decision to go a different direction. We decided to enter the player development business, I can't think of anything more shortsighted than to abandon that approach while it's still in it's infancy.

I'm fine to admit I'm in the minority here and would prefer to pass on Griffin. He reminds me too much of post Suns Amare. I don't want to be stuck with post Suns Amare and a contract like that.

Yes me too. I'll wait til after we sign him to look those people up.
In Gambo's poll on Twitter, asking people if the Suns should sign him, it was at 52% yes and 48% no. But it's likely a lot of those no's were not Suns fans.

Oh yeah bucks fans like him but Milwaukee is capped the hell out and will be looking to shed some salary so they don't hit the lux tax matching snells contract.
