I mean he supposedly worked a ton on his shot this past summer..saw how that turned out. He needs a ton of individual work, and that's not being maxed if he does NT stuff imo. He doesn't need more game action, he's going into his 4th year and he knows what's expected of him in games and what's needed to win. He needs the skill base to go out there and make it happen.
I don't mean to single you out, I'm using your post as a jump off...
I call BS on the "young players who play for their NTs hurt their development" fallacy. As far as I can tell, there's no reason to keep on acting as if this were automatically true.
I want to see statistical proof that young players who don't play for their NTs in the summer develop at a higher rate than those that do. Really, the burden of proof is on the people who insist that his development hinges on staying around the US, because nobody who is in favor of NT play is suggesting it's a superior way to develop. So let's see some facts.
As far as his work last summer and his shot this year, it seems to me his shot started to look better after the ASG and after Kidd supposedly gave him free reign to launch 3s. That might lead one to conclude that "working a ton on his shot last summer" had a nominal effect on his shot, and it was the experience and growing confidence of taking over as PG and his coach's instructions that were really the important factors. One could see that as a point scored for NT play. Maybe.
And in terms of Giannis not needing more game action, I'd argue that playing an increased role for the NT this summer could be like his increased role for the Bucks was post-ASG. (this is providing Greece gives him an expanded role of course).
Not all game action experience is the same- would you count pre-ASG Giannis game-action experience the same as post-ASG Giannis experience? Would Larry Drew Giannis game-action experience count as equivalent to either? Of course not.
This idea that staying here and working out being unequivocably better for development than playing for a NT just seems way too cut-and-dried for my apprehension.
