But, yeah can't wait to see what wonderful haul we get from the Clips and/or Cavs

Would be more dumb to not make a decision that you would have otherwise had those games gone differently.
I get what you're saying but, moving Carmelo solves nothing but, clearing cap space in my opinion. We're getting nothing of value back if those reported 2 destinations are true.. This is all going to be one big waste of time and a big distraction in my opinion for nothing worthwhile and it's coming from both sides...
Just kiss and make up and move on.
The main reason why you'd trade melo is because it makes us bad enough to get a good pick in the draft this year and next year.

yeah all those chips, winning seasons, and great basketball melo gave us.
at least he dropped 62 points on the worst defensive team in the nba that one time.
They were the 6th ranked defense at the time
Nice try tho
(Slightly) Better record than us as well at that point.

I would have thought Houston or Spree might have been but apparently not when Ewing was here
Starks averaged 19.0 PPG in '94.
The second leading scorer on Olajuwan's '94 Rockets was Otis Thorpe at 14.0 PPG.
Pat is a legend, but I just think he was unfortunate to come up in the era he did. I don't see much blame on the FO for the way things went down in the 90s. They had pieces that fit very well together and even had an identity and system that allowed them to wring everything possible out of their group. I watched every game and loved those teams unconditionally - to this day they are still my favorite sports teams of all time despite being a die-hard Yankees fan who watched multiple titles with multiple home-grown legends and HOFers.
I know it's not popular, like you said, but to me Ewing just wasn't as transcendent as Olajuwan or Jordan, and he also had some sh*t luck on top of it with losing a game 7, 2-18, and such. I still haven't watched any highlights from the '94 playoffs because that pain will never heal until the Knicks finally break through and win one for me,
but I also don't categorize his Knicks career as some kind of organizational failure or "what if?" scenario. There were simply better teams with a better star.
Checketts era, no. Before that, letting King go and then Rod Strickland. Those guys would have helped Pat a lot.
We, and by we I mean James Dolan, didn't know what we had with Dave. Story goes that if he had stayed, we probably would have torn down in 2001 instead of constantly chasing the rebuild on the fly and that this suggestion was the breaking point between him and Dolan. Another story tells us that Checketts swung and missed on Phil Jackson. So maybe now he's coming in to finish the job Dave should have started.

Think about what's going on
Phil is trying to nudge Melo to ask for a trade or else he'll ruin the Melo brand, and Melo loves the brand more than anything. The best thing he can do for his brand is go to a winner and be a 3rd banana providing instant offense in a lesser usage role.

Melo has to go for no other reason than he's openly defied what we're trying to do on offense and defense and it's not the first time. But this time we have some nice young players who don't need that kind of leadership.

All I hope is that Phil made it perfectly clear to Melo that it's time to move on.

phil set us back with Noah and Lance contracts.
Melo led us to our best season since the 90's
melo?
not smith having a career year, felton having a great season, kidd on the team, and the all the vets to keep melo in check?
melo was given the greenlight to chuck and duck on that 50+ win team. he choked in the playoffs.

Agreed. It would ironically cement his NY legacy if he did go somewhere else and won.

You guys want him?

To match salary we'd have to send Kanter/Singler and waive our Trade Exception if my off-the-top-of-my-head calculations are correct.
But it's a moot point, Melo ain't waiving his NTC to move to Oklahoma.

I don't get the emotional attatchment these guys have to Melo. He won one damn playoff series why are you in love with him? Do u relate to him as person? Do u love his politics? I've never seen people so attatched to a guy who won a playoff series
"He can get buckets yo, look at his ppg"
he was a superstar that was up to the challenge of NY.

Shoulder injury didn't help. Team frankly also lost because they let that Celtics series get to 6 games.

phil can take it, he's a big boy. As long as he does the right thing and start the full rebuild.
They also bashed him for drafting Kristaps.
