I don't have a scout's eye when it comes to the pros and could be completely wrong, but yeesh. I watched AB video all last night and today and if he's the best available at 3, I really hope Morey gets creative and trades out.

I’d like to either trade back or find a way to get 2 from the Spurs if it’s possible

Cody Williams (#10 2024)
Ziaire Williams (#10 2021)
Cam Reddish (#10 2019)
Jaylen Brown (#3 2016)
Marquese Chriss (#8 2016)
Austin Rivers (#10 2012)
Notable:
Kevin Knox (5.1 BPM, #9 2018)
Brandon Knight (5.5, #8 2011)
Almost 15 years of data and if you're best argument for Ace Bailey is the anomaly who is Jaylen Brown, then you have no argument. I'm reading posts on Reddit that say "don't be dumb, take the BPA, take Ace". How is that possible when the most unbelievably risky and volatile top 5 pick is Ace Bailey?
Of those guys, how many had sub 70% FT shooting?
The problem with drafting high is that usually only one guy is truly worth taking. The rest could go anywhere from 2nd to 15th overall. Then teams (Who are often bad) take big swings at the risky high ceiling / low floors. This happens in the NFL all the time and is why the Eagles, Ravens, Chiefs, Packers, etc. stay so consistant. They sit and let the good players with high floors fall to them.
If we know DQ is going to drop, honestly I'd trade back. His ball handling, 77% FT on 6.1 per game, and athleticism indicate he has potential to be way more than just a post player.
For those that think he's Jah 2.0 - Jah was 51% FT.
A little trivia comparison for those interested:
DQ Stats:
6'10" and 240 pounds
30.4 MPG, 52.6% on 11.1 shots, 77% FT's at 6.1 per Game, 16.5 PPG, 8 Rebounds, 1.9 Assists, 1.1 Blocks
Current NBA Star College Stats:
6'10" and 250 pounds
33 MPG, 47.8% on 13.2 shots, 73% FT on 4.8 shots per Game, 17.2 PPG, 7.8 Rebounds, 3.2 Assists, 0.9 BlocksSpoiler:
Think we can match him up with Embiid, lol? He has a season's worth of tape showing him play with a C (Julian Reese) where he's dropping dimes into the post for easy buckets. Think Maxey, McCain, PG, Edwards, Grimes, etc would like to play with him? Ridiculous at getting the ball at the FT line and hitting wide open shooters for 3.
And, of course, he gets buckets by going to the basket with his elite-for-his-size handle and bullying his way to the rim. I'd love to see the dunk stats for the top 10 players this year because he has to be near the top. He also has a **** -talking swag to him.
He's my "don't overthink it, just take him at 3" guy and I might be alone on this.
Embiid doesn't like playing down low anyways, so honestly I don't think it would be the worst rotation lol
Until DQ develops a consistant corner 3, I'd probably try to split their rotations/shifts.
He can run and gun (Which fits all of those guys), is really good at driving off the pick and roll, and getting to the FT line.
I think he has so much untapped potential. His mentality will not be phased in tough playoff environments. In his post game press conference after hitting the game winner against CSU this past March, they asked him where he got his confidence to take the shot. He replied "I'm from Baltimore".
I don't care where we take him, I would just take him and move forward. We need an alpha dog who isn't afraid to take the game winning shots.

Nothing he’s said in that video means a damn thing. They most certainly do not have a pick lined up yet. I’d bet any amount of money on that.

Kyle Hamilton posted poor combine numbers and is arguably the best safety in the NFL.
Games aren't won/lost based on how fast you can run or high you can jump in your underwear. It's if you can defend and get buckets. DQ can

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
are we sure DQ can defend tho? Also his jumper is in the theoretical land atm and looks slow. I love the swagger tho and people smarter than I love him too so idk
the appeal of the wings and guards is that they are easy to build around or with...a decade of building around Biid's specific skillset doesn't make me excited to sign up for a smaller version of that if I'm honest.
I am a whore for wings tho....so take everything I say with that in mind.
again I'd be fired every single draft for taking flyers on dudes because they occasionally do a T-Mac impression in a carefully edited highlight reel.

What if the Spurs asked for McCain to swap 2 for 3? I’m high on Tre but I’d do it. We get Harper and McCain would be an incredible fit for the Spurs. That sort of movement shooting around Wemby. Lol

For y'all who follow this all year: did Ace improve at anything as the season progressed? Decision-making, shooting, creation, or defense? I remember being underwhelmed by McCain last year but everyone who was familiar with him said not to worry because he improved a lot.

Arguably the bottom fell out on him. Peaked in January and just stopped caring I guess.

So Bailey it's a quiet kid with some motor/motivation/maturity questions that played for an underachieving team in College.
Yikes, that scares the **** outa me, some real Ben Simmons and Markell Fultz vibes.

Not good, but I meant from an eye-test perspective. I can look at stats.

I did not watch them in sequential order as I actively avoided watching Rutgers games since they were an abomination to the game. This guy gives his biased view:

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
Harper if the Spurs pass or decide to trade, but if we stand pat, I think you have to really think about Tre Johnson. I like Edgecombe from an athletic POV, but athleticism is not sustainable and guys get injured. Bailey is another guy I want to like, but there's so much doubt surrounding him right now and I feel like he could have durability issues as well as disappearing acts when we need him the most. I don’t know why but Johnson and Queen look like very durable and readily available players at any point. NOT SAYING WE SHOULD TAKE QUEEN, just saying that durability is important and neither Queen or Johnson need to rely on athletic abilities to impact the game. I feel like with world class athletes like VJ, they do get hurt, but injuries are impossible to predict. Again, I know nothing.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
I buy it. Obviously, he has an extra incentive to say that and force a trade up, but I also think he's demonstrated that he has the science down for drafting.
I love that he's willing to draft BPA even if it's a guard. I will laugh, die, and be excited all at the same time if he ends up drafting Fears though.
He mentions the player being able to contribute right away. I don't think that's Ace, but we'll see next month.
