Trade Giannis or roll into next year with Giannis but Doc is still the coach and the supporting cast is weaker because Horst rightfully isn’t trading 2031 and beyond picks since Giannis is not signed beyond 2027?

The vibes from the team are definitely sticking with Doc and only trading Giannis if he asks out.

How is the supporting cast weaker?

But will they?

I’d love to see him as a strength and conditioning coach but it sounds like he wants to play.

It's a package deal. Wherever Giannis ends up Thanasis ends up. If Thanasis wants to play he'll be in uniform. I agree though, a staff position would be better. He'd still be around the team every day without taking up a spot.

Kostas on the other hand…

The three guys I want (Sengun, Amen and Reed) are 22, 22 and 20 respectively. Those are young dudes with room to grow.

But the real appeal of Houston also are the draft picks they hold. They have multiple unprotected PHX picks and a BKN pick. Those are valuable and juicy. A better bet to be much higher than the picks OKC or SAS hold.

I’m with you on everything except Sengun as I think it’s really hard to build a roster around a guy who can’t play D. That said, he’s young and could be flipped for more so I wouldn’t turn down a deal with him as long as Amen was included.

No Dame, Brook is either gone or a year older, Bobby is either gone or a year older, Doc’s still the coach so a full season of starters minutes for Kuz, GTJ is likely gone.

Tell me how it doesn’t get worse without proposing a trade that includes future draft picks…

Don't trade Giannis, even if he's got a foot out the door. Work on getting him a squad.

That's my stance & I'm sticking with it. If he wants to walk as an FA, okay, but til then ride it out.

Him walking in free agency after 2027 is the end of days scenario that should be avoided at all costs. He walks then their next three first are all held by the Blazers. UNPROTECTED. You’d have a hilariously bad team with no viable way to improve for three years. But hey, you’ll get to lose in five or six games in the first round the next two seasons, so totally worth it.

We still have 1st rd picks in 2028 and 2030. The 2028 one is convoluted and will most likely end up being a bottom 10 pick, for sure it's not a lottery pick. 2030 is a swap with Portland. We are in quite a predicament here but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Our draft capital or lack there of sucks. We’re totally screwed if Giannis leaves. Horst won’t be able to reload with DJ Wilsons and Marjons…

Rockets losing, OKC imploding, if Giannis asks out...doesn't get any juicer than this.

Then you think about Horst with potentially all these draft picks and you cry lol.

So dramatic. Not having one possible lottery pick and two swaps with the Blazers is the scenario to be avoided at all costs? Come on. You'd think the argument that we need high lottery picks to build a winner would be a non-starter with fans of this specific franchise, but old habits die hard, I guess.

If I'm trading Giannis, I want tons of draft picks so that Jon Horst can work his magic.

There are no moves this team can make to be better than this years team. I'd rather roll into next year with a chance of future and the only way that happens is if they trade Giannis. There is no future if they dont trade Giannis.

If we still had our draft picks, i wouldn't trade Giannis, but this team has no future without getting picks and upside players back.

Not to mention that NBA teams can typically be a low lottery/play-in level team if they're not actively tanking.

Fans of this specific franchise should know this too.

But yes, tedbrogen, let's become the Magic now so we can avoid becoming the Bulls in 2028.

I think it's safe to say we're in a lot of trouble if we keep Giannis and he leaves in 2 years. In fact, it's safe to say we're in a lot of trouble right now.

The Bucks will be the team who signs James Harden at the MLE, huffing the hopium. They win 57 games to declare they're back, then proceed to lose in the 1st rd against the Orlando Magic, w/ the beard shaved to the tune of 9 pts in the close-out game.

Porter & Trent Jr. both were unable to be retained because the Bucks used that allotment to pay Harden. They go into the next offseason w/ him 37 yrs old and Giannis 1 year away from free agency. They have none of their 1sts for the following 5 years & their best "young" players are 2-ways.

We are totally screwed if Horst cannot start drafting well, regardless of GA staying or not.

The alternative to trading him for an absolute haul of young talent and/or picks this offseason is bringing him back, surrounding him with a far worse team than this past season, and likely the same horrid coach. I love GA more than any athlete in the history of my life, but trading him makes more sense than keeping him.

Obviously, if he wants to stay, you aren't moving him. I"m talking about what is better for the franchise long-term. If he stays and walks, we are literally looking at the longest rebuild in probably the history of the league.

Sheppard/Thompson/2025 PHX 1st / 2026 HOU 2nd / 2028 HOU 1st / 2030 Hou 1st - Does anyone say no to that?

I'd say no to that. No interest in Sheppard or Houston's own picks.

To be fair, he did eventually limit his minutes pretty significantly towards the end of the series.

But my guess would be the hope is an offseason with our staff, getting in better shape, etc., will get Kuzma back to the level he usually plays at (or hopefully better!) vs. last season which even by his relatively low standards was horrific.
