A deal better go-down, can you imagine how Gil will play if a deal doesn't happen? There's a lot of smoke right now being blown.

If the Magic are still in talks for Hedon't and Richardson, it could be that the gun has been way kinds of jumped on the Gil trade talk. The Gortat Carter package has been speculated on as the means of that Phoenix deal, but you have to think they wouldn't rock the boat any more if they went in with that.

According to shamsports the last year of Lewis' contract is not guaranteed. That means the last guaranteed year of his contract is next season.

Just to play devil's advocate for a bit here, with the gun incident, Arenas destroyed/changed the course of this team. Maybe a lot of us don't realize that, but it was his incident that led to Eddie Jordan being fired, and 4 of his teammates being traded. While it sucks that we're gonna trade him (to a division foe no less) because he did so much to bring basketball back to DC, it needs to happen. He's the last man standing from the previous regime/Wizards teams, and the only way to truly start over is to trade him.

Our team will be downright horrible. I'm not even sure Carter will suit up in a Wizards uniform. But, we're gonna get another lottery pick, and we're gonna have a lot of cap space the next 2 years or so. Ted has to pull something out of his ass to get any major free agent to come here.

I'm not sure what the concern is for the rest of the season either way. I'm really not seeing playoff potential here. If we trade Gil or not, we're still not going to the playoffs. So the question isn't this season, its what gets us better over time. We should be looking for draft picks - two firsts and some bad luggage for a few years is alright with me, or get VC and a first. Either of those two would be OK.

The last year is guaranteed for at least $10 million. Put your cursor-thingie over top of Shart's name over at Sham and you can see the details there.

Thanks

That would still be a lot cheaper for Ted if there is an Alan Houston rule in the next CBA.

Yeah, that would be my sentiment as well. It's not great, but it might be just about the only game in town and a potential Allan-Houston style buyout would be half compared with doing something like that with Gil.

But Mike Lee was also reporting that after the Lakers home game, GIl was telling folks that he could be sent to Orlando or Charlotte. It sounds like this might be less certain than has been reported with Gil pegged to be in the lineup tonight.

This could be one of those things like when Jamison was pulled at the last second from a game last year. Kinda sucks though. I hope they give fans one last chance to see Gilbert as a Wizard. Maybe Gilbert knows that too and give us one awesome performance tonight. :(

Well, Carter+Gortat for Hedo+JRich would seem to work for both teams. The Suns need size and Orlando gets Hedo back at a more reasonable price than if they'd matched Toronto's original offer.

But that would kind of throw some water on the Lewis-for-Arenas talk since I'd assume they'd be re-acquiring Turkgolu so they can re-create their 3/4 pick and roll game. Might mean Gil's ultimately staying. Or it might mean a 3-way trade. This works under the cap:

Wizards trade: Arenas
Wizards receive: JRich and Pietrus

Magic trade: Carter, Gortat, and Pietrus
Magic receive: Arenas and Turkgolu

Suns trade: JRich and Turkgolu
Suns receive: Carter and Gortat

TRADE ID 5771625

Orlando gets their team back to mismatch advantages.

Howard/Bass
Lewis/Anderson
Hedo/QRich
Arenas/Redick
Nelson/JWill

Phoenix adds size and a guy who can get his own shot.

Lopez/Gortat
Warrick/Frye
Hill/Dudley
Carter/Childress
Nash/Dragic

Washington clears most of Gil's contract.

McGee/Seraphin
Blatche/Booker
Howard/Pietrus
JRich/Young
Wall/Hinrich

I'd have assume that Gil would be waiving some money on the back end of his deal to make this happen, otherwise the Wiz would have to kick in some sweetener to get this kind of salary relief.

I'd absolutely be satisfied with Gil for Lewis+pick. We'd be stuck with him for next season, but in 2012 it seems that we can probably negotiate a buyout for the guaranteed portion and let him hit the open market to try to make up the rest. We'd not only get out of Gil's deal a year early, but we'd be an even bigger player in 2012. The pick may be low but it's still a pick and can help us just like the CLE pick helped us get Booker in the last draft.

Well, this must be happy and sad times for the trade thread.

You have some raw meat to chew on but it also means the end of Gil being here.

Not sure what to think at this point. I wonder if this affects Nick wanting to say here or not.

I hear the rumor but then I also read stuff like this.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcspor ... g_any.html

They also mention Charlotte

Ken Berger from CBS.

http://ken-berger.blogs.cbssports.com/m ... 3/26502822

The Magic and Wizards are discussing a blockbuster trade that would send Gilbert Arenas to Orlando, a person with knowledge of the talks confirmed to CBSSports.com Friday.

The person characterized the talks as “serious,” with definite interest on both sides to make the deal happen.

UPDATE: League sources say a third team is involved, with the Suns possibly contributing Hedo Turkoglu to the equation. The Magic, trying to make a bold move to close the gap with Boston and Miami, would wind up with Arenas and Turkoglu, who would return to the team he led to the NBA Finals before a frustrating year in Toronto. Magic center Marcin Gortat is "100 percent involved," though it's unclear whether the Magic would be sending out Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, or both.

I've gone full trade deadline twitter fiend. Never go full trade deadline twitter fiend.

UPDATE:

There are conflicting reports regarding the imminence of a potential trade sending Gilbert Arenas to the the Magic, but at least one has said the deal is done and that he will debut on Monday against the Hawks.
One other report says the deal is not "imminent," but all of the reports suggest that the sides are serious and by all appearances this trade is going down. Early reports suggested that Vince Carter and Marcin Gortat would be headed to the Wizards, but a recent report has Rashard Lewis possibly being the key piece with another trade involving the former pair in the works. Stay tuned.

Crazy stuff, but if Arenas is playing tonight sounds like the media jumped the gun. Obviously will happen soon at this point.....but these types of rumors sometimes linger until the trade deadline.

If anything we just became more of a circus.

And I think a lot of the fans here are fooling themselves. If we get back Carter and then buy him out (seems likely to me at least....Lewis makes no sense Carter does if we want to shed salary), we will have gone from starting lineup of Arenas/Jamison/Haywood/Miller/Butler last year to this tonight......Wall/Hinrich/Thornton/Blatche/Armstrong. Ouch.

If we're going this route, we need to jettison Hinrich/Armstrong/Thornton/Howard as well. No reason for them to be around. Just run with:

Wall/Young/Booker/Blatche/Seraphin

Horrible team, and Wall will undoubtedly be frustrated when asked to improve his jumper so quickly, but that's rebuilding through youth. Leonsis can't let Saunders march out Howard/Hinrich/Thornton/Yi/Armstromg combos all year I would hope.
