Just cause you keep telling yourself that doesn't make it true. Blake Griffin is an mvp caliber player, JJ is a roleplayer. Now if you're concerned with Griffin as a health risk or character issues, those are valid. In no universe except your own is JJ a better basketball player than Blake Griffin.

Blake when he's at 100% is a top 15 nba player. I just feel uneasy about the possibility of getting a guy while he's injured.

Miami Heat guarantee Josh Richardson, assure payment to Okaro White

The Miami Heat have made their first of their offseason commitments, with Josh Richardson's $1.5 million 2017-18 salary to become guaranteed Friday and the team to meet Okaro White's $226,000 partial-guarantee Saturday deadline.

For Richardson, it is the first of two contract deadlines this offseason, with the third-year guard also eligible in August for a four-year extension.

"I mean I'm enjoying the process," said Richardson, who is bypassing summer play for the first time since he was selected at No. 40 in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft.

"I'm just trying to keep my head down, start to work.

"I mean to know that my contract can be guaranteed and I'm up for extension, it wakes you up again, if you needed that. It's definitely surreal."

Richardson's 2017-18 guarantee never was at issue, but for the first time he’s now locked into a full season's salary before the start of an offseason.

"It's different," he said of taking in free agency from the sidelines. "I haven't really had a teammate in rumors or anything like that. It's weird kind of trying to talk it out and try to navigate it at this point. But I think all of us are kind of figuring it out."

For White, Saturday is the first of three guarantee deadlines on his $1.4 million 2017-18 salary, followed by an Aug. 1 partial guarantee, with the full salary to become guaranteed at the start of the season.

The former Florida State forward is the lone player with NBA experience on the Heat's summer-league roster.

"I think they look at me a little different," he said of his summer teammates. "I know some of these guys are looking for advice and I'm trying to do my best to help these guys."

White did not join the Heat last summer until the Heat's second summer league, in Las Vegas. That makes this the first time he will compete in both summer leagues for the team.

"I had a good amount of time to adjust to the game, and adjust to the style of pace and adjust to the way we play as a team," he said of being with the Heat the past six months, after starting last season with the Heat's D-League affiliate. "I think I'm a more relaxed player. I think an older player and a more relaxed player."

I have a feeling we already have discussed specific numbers with JJ and maybe have an agreement at this point. JJ has been repping the team really hard and we've havent really heard too many rumors about him. The league at this point doesn't really care about tampering rules etc and I'm sure a lot of stuff has been tossed around before July 1st.

Also the league should be grateful for what Miami did in 2010. The whole circus really changed how the offseason was viewed. The transaction game during NBA free agency generates so much interest and buzz for the league.

I would be pissed if we lost JJ, he is the heart and soul of this team and a very talented player.

The more I look at it, if we can't get Hayward, I am all in with bringing everyone one back plus a guy like Iliasova or Caspi to play the 4.

Whiteside - Bam - Reed
Iliasova - JJ - Babbit
Justice - JRich - Okaro
Dion - Ellington - McGruder
Dragic - TJ - ?

Stop thinking absolutes and start thinking in returns on investments.

We are NOT out talenting Golden State..... we have to out "TEAM them"

JJ per dollar spent is an amazing player, who pulls defenders all over the defense. He has unique skills that are not easy to duplicate at his size and price range.

He also is absolutely beloved by the fan base and his teammates.

We don't care about JJ the failure, we care about the MIA version of JJ.

JJ works at PF, let's find help at SF.

So as long as we sign Dion and JJ to at or below market deals (which they seem amenable to) and they produce in the vein of last seasons contributions, they are assets that a team will want to pick up. There is a price point at which either is probably a risk but at 8-10 for Dion and 10-12 or so for JJ is asset territory to me. Dion carries a little more risk to me because of injuries.

Part of my trepidation with Hayward and Griffin is they are asset risks at 30 mill a year. I.e. if they don't pan out completely, we would need to expend assets to move them later. ...

obv in a vacuum you are taking Blake over JJ. You also have to keep in mind roster construction. Resigning JJ at a good contract means you don't have to spend 60% of your cap on two bigs in Blake and Hassan. I think I feel pretty excited going forward with JJ/Hassan/Bam. IMO, Hayward is the home run. He's younger, healthier, and improves every year. To me he is clearly what we are missing. We have good talent at the guards and bigs now, adding a forward like Hayward plugs a big hole.

Hayward is not a risk asset IMO, he's been playing at a high level for a while and gets better and better. Consider that Butler is going West, and with potentially PG and Melo heading out there as well. A lot of talent is heading West, and it's making the East even weaker. We have an opportunity to take another step forward next year and Hayward is probably the third best wing in the East next year after Lebron and Giannis.

For me its Hayward or bust as far as realistic FA's are concerned. If he chooses to not join us I am down with re-upping our guys and sending McBob on a vacation to the islands then telling Trump to not let him back into the country...

Do you think we could sign Gallinari for $15 mil per year with Waiters at $10 mil and JJ at $10mil per year? I think all of those would be great value deals. Gallinari said Denver is not his first option.

PG - Dragic / TJ
SG - Waiters / JRich / Ellington
SF - Winslow / McGruder / White
PF - Gallinari / JJ / Babbitt
C - Whiteside / Adebayo / Haslem

(Also Gallinari was born on 8/8/88, haha)

This would be fine too.

Scary that he's only averaged 58 games a season eight years in though.

Don't care for Casspi. Nobody wants to keep him, so I'm guessing he has issues.

Nope. Brooklyn seems primed to make a 20 plus offer for him.

I know so many want a fresh face and I'm all in on Hayward but Griffin do not want. If we get him on a deal fine. As for Jj let's not disrespect him and habe another tj situation or bosh where we end up chasing to sign them after other plans fall through. Jj more than dion but they birth have been bright spots we don't see every year. We are becoming spurs-like with our development projects. Lets not Aldrich it with griffin.

People bringing up past JJ...That version got no playing time and was heavier. Our version is in better shape, gets meanining minutes and has great court chemistry with the rest of the guys.

Blake Griffin is a soft player who doesn't show up consistently in the playoffs. At worst, JJ can at least lockdown his guy if he isn't getting it done on the offensive end. Blake Griffin gets bullied all the time. I don't want a guy who can't stick up for himself.
