So he’s just going to be injured every season now?

He played 60 games out of 62 before this. He also played a ton of minutes in most of those games. It sucks that he got hurt, but he did get hurt. We don’t know how long he will be gone. So let’s hold off on the injury prone talk.

If he misses significant time this season….
I mean come on. You can’t judge a guys injury proneness on 5 years of data.

I know, but our offense and defense will be out of sorts for a while. Let's hope the team rallies hard and we get big contributions from our other players [can we bring Leonard Miller into the rotation? is he ready?]. Thank goodness the Wolves have some decent depth and this isn't a crippling long-term injury.
Cheers

1. If you are going to talk about it then really talk about it. 82, 82, 82, 77, 35, 50, 74, 29, 60.
2. The 35 was the year Covid shut down the season. 35/64. Not 35/82. The 50 was the shortened season. 50/72 not 50/82. Of that 22 how many were actually Covid rather than an injury? How many All Stars miss 15 to 20 games including rest and maintenance? Also, Karl hasn’t missed the last 20 yet. If plays in 5 more than he is eligible for end of seasons honors. Depending on the severity and treatment of the injury playing in 8-10 more games is far from out of the question. So no, we cannot declare him injury prone just yet.

Re: **The Official Karl-Anthony Towns Thread: Part Two**
Speculation about the severity of his injury is pointless.
The FO will likely tell us very little about this.
Buckle up for no significant communication.
What a horrible development for KAT, the team, and the fans.
EDIT:
Is there a source for aggregated availability data? I.e. I'd like to access a readily-available statistic for availability for all players that I can sort. Do bigs get injured more than littles--that's a lot of extra mileage on bigs--and is that a constraint of building around double-bigs to win a championship? Is there a point in their career when bigs can't be relied upon as much? I'm looking at both Embiid and KAT missing more and more games as they age, and it seems like they miss more than littles at their same ages. I don't want to get into cherry picking debate--that's why I want the stat for availability.

KAT in the 2024 playoffs: 19.1, 9.0, 2.6 on 46.6 / 36.1 / 85.5.

I only learned about the injury now...from what I read but it's not true that he's out for the season..do you confirmed?

Nothing is confirmed - other than he has damage to the meniscus. No one knows the severity at this point.

It's a freak injury. He just landed the wrong way. Bad luck more than any thing else.

Do we know when it happened? I was wondering if it goes back to the King’s game he missed?

Nick K wrote:What devastating news. I don't know how you replace a guy like that. The best we can hope for is it's a small tear. I hate these meniscus tears almost more than an acl depending on severity. They have ended a lot of careers or guys just aren't the same. Maybe they can treat these things better today?
The Kat haters will see how important he is with his absence.
The Kat "haters" dont want to see him removed from an offense he's been spearheading for 9 years, right before playoff starts. The Kat "haters" want him to adjust his game or be traded IN THE OFFSEASON for other important pieces on both offense and defense.

This is why its so important to develop players or at least sprinkle in the guys that we draft into our games. I hope he gets well soon.

At what point does it stop being "freak"?
KAT was basically an Iron Man his first 4 years (missing 5 games his 4th season and none before that).
But the previous 4 years he's played in 188 games. For comparison, Embiid played in 236.

Tweets are saying they aren’t sure if it happened vs. Portland or in practice Wednesday.
If they would watch the games they would know….
Portland, 3rd quarter, 8:35 him and Mike get knocked over, he begins to limp. 7:20 on the clock he’s shaking his leg out.

I went back again and watched a little further back (Edited post to show it). I just remember watching the game and KAT was shaking his leg out.

And in the other 5 seasons, KAT has played 383. In Embiid’s other six (he missed his first two), he played in 192.
At least both these guys have unrelated injuries, as opposed to Ben Simmons, who has chronic back problems.

I find it hilarious that all the pundits that were saying we couldn't win because KAT is terrible in the playoffs are now saying we can't win because we don't have KAT.
This isn't anywhere near as bad as losing Naz and Jaden days before the playoffs.

You could be right, but I actually wonder if the problem didn’t begin back in December. He missed a game with left knee soreness and was limping for the next few.

That is a good point, could have reaggravated something in existing v Portland.
