What do you mean "there's no fit". Are you content with Jason Kapono as the back-up wing? The HELL? Our bench is solid, it can be better. It needs to be better with a back-up wing.

We need:

A Back up 3
A backup 1/2
A Back up C.

I think he thought that Miller, Iguodala, Thad, Brand, and Sammy were going to be a top 4 lineup in the east, and as Thad, Speights, and Iguodala got better the team would get closer to becoming a conference finalist during Brand's tenure.

However, they just weren't a good unit. As of last season, Brand couldn't succeed in the up-tempo, running offense, while Iguodala couldn't play well in the halfcourt were Brand thrived. This meant one of your two big money stars will be playing in an offense that didn't suit them.

Sammy played worse than Ed expected in every area of the game. Lou Williams didn't play as well as Ed thought he would when he signed him to the extension. After the season, it was clear that the team was further from contending than Ed first thought.

Ultimately, while we may have a good defensive group with Elton, Sammy, Thad, and Andre, I expect big struggles from the offense. I don't think, as of right now, that Andre shoots well enough to flourish as a 2 guard in the Princeton. Lou is going to be learning this offense while learning how to play the point while learning to play against his natural ability to score off the ball. Sammy is not that good in any offense. And Brand is coming off injury and now learning a new offense with a new point guard.

That is why I like the idea of using this season as a learning experience. See what these players can do with an opportunity to play an entire season in this offense.

What is it about Elton Brand not succeeding on the break?

We averaged a measly 0.7 PPG more W/O Elton Brand on the break. That's it.

Just 0.7.

We need shooting and spacing to see the success we wanna see. So I'm hoping Lou improves on that area alot. Iggy too.

Iggy improved alot in the 2nd half of the season. I want him to continue those improvements and to master his arc on his jumper.

Score off the ball? Lou scores with the ball in his hands. Though I think he can be a decent off ball player.

The concerns aren't THAT BAD.

If I heard everyone correctly, we'd win the same amount of games we'd win with Andre Miller. So what's with the negativity?

The "East" Improved. The top-3 teams improved and even that's a question mark(Shaq and LeBron) (Jamal Crawful, Josh Smith and Joe Johnson in the SAME lineup?)

There are question marks about those teams that could drop them a good 10 wins or so from last year. I seriously expect ATL to falter with 2 chuckers in the lineup alongside a JJ.

I would be fine with the Warrick signing. I think he could get some legit minutes at the 4. Pushing Thad fully to the 3, and Iggy fully to the 2.

Warrick backs up brand while Smith/Speights play 5. I mean i'd definately make him 'earn' his minutes, but i think he could be a solid addition, and if he shows some stuff, then maybe moving Elton becomes more of an option if he's healthy and still not fitting.

That said, if we went Warrick, i'd want them to use the other half of the MLE money on a 1 yr guard. (who ideally would stick, and we'd move Green at the TD or off season)

Iguodala's shooting at the 2 is a non-issue if Lou shoots like he did the 07-08 season and Thad improves his shot. People make too much of Dala needing to be able to shoot at a high level to play the off-guard, when he fits the mold of athletic slashers who flourished at the 2(Drexler, Richmond, Harper, Jordan), especially when their back court mate could stroke it.

All in all, I don't think they will struggle offensively as much as some people think.

I would take Flip or Arroyo plus Warrick as the off-season haul. Team would be 10-11 players deep with solid talent

Well I guess we can write off Warrick, looks like he is going to sign with the Bucks...this is looking to be one miserable offseason!

Looks like his priority was playing time, which neither the Sixers or Cavs could promise. Not a biggie, he would have been a nice luxury piece here anyway

I agree with your breakdown. I also thought the team would have been better last year, and maybe they could have turned it around but for the shoulder injury... It seemed like this season and next were the ones ES was targeting to try and peak with Brand, Miler and the young core, but too late now that Miller is gone.

This season should be interesting. I'm glad that we will see less low upside placeholders like Evans/Green/Joe Smith. Might as well see what we have,m and there is a ton of upside on the roster.

Long term my only major concerns are:
1. The Brand financial issue in 2-3 years- but this can hopefully be fixed later.
2. Does a 1/2/3 rotation of Lou/Holiday/Iguodala/Young provide enough shooting to maximize their talent?
3. Can a EJ coached team play elite level defense. The skill palyers are there so we will see.

Why not offer Dionte Christmas and Rob Kurz spots. Young kids can shoot and maybe develop to be the next Shavlik Randolph.

Well, I actually really like Dionte and with development could be an NBA Starter 15 PPG kind of guy.

Salim Stoudemire is on a non-guaranteed contract with the Bucks. With the signing of Warrick, it looks like they have about 17 on the roster. He's a 6'1" chucker who apparently is a pretty good shooter.

Where exactly is Shavlik Randolph today? And what did he achieve during his career? And sorry to ask the obvious, but why do we want the "next" one of him?

Just curious.

Your doubting the Shav?....how dare you.

( serious answer: before the injury he looked like he was going to live up to his HS expectations....)

I don't blame you if you just joined the fourm and/or didn't watch the 2007 year but Randolph developed to be a solid big off the bench before a collision with Andre Iguodala.

We want the next Shavlik Randolph to develop some nice prospects that can contribute 2-3 years from now.
