lol @ the thirst!! No neither girls are me, but I did use to wear my hair that way and I do dance. I assume you aren't Black (or are you? I assume everyone here is non-Black) so I will break it alllll the way down sorta.
Basically what's been happening for a long time to Black women is that we create something...like literally we become the originators of a specific style or trend or piece of fashion..and when it's associated with us it's given a demeaning description.
For instance, things like twerking became popular for a spell over the last couple of years, and it was always considered ghetto/trashy when Black women, who originated it, did it. Then, all of a sudden someone like Miley Cyrus does it, and it's her being "edgy" and "feminist". And obviously edgy has a much more positive connotation than the ghetto and trashy nicknames women like me had before when we were doing it. On top of that, it skyrocketed her fame, while a Black female artist can't get any shine in the music genre or dance style we created. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift also suddenly have Black women twerking in their videos when they have never been a fan of the culture before. They just exploit the trend and us without giving any proper due or allowing us to benefit in the same ways they do for what we originally brought to life. And this happens with sooo many things.
But that's just the background, and is sadly actually nothing new. The reason for the sig is that recently there was a twitter hashtag called #whitegirlsdoitbetter and it had a bunch of pictures of white women wearing their hair in cornrows, bantu knots, twerking, and all types of things that Black women created. And there was a lot of racist venom coming from white women basically gloating that they get to steal our trends and can do it better. So "Black Twitter" took over the hashtag and started posting beautiful pictures and gifs and videos of Black women doing the same where we absolutely blew them out the water. I mean the videos and pictures were not even comparable in terms of talent and physique and class and I was just blown away.
So I took one of the pics and made it my sig because I just wanted to show the pride I felt in response to the whole phenomenon. We're pretty resilient and I hope other Black girls, and other people in general see they can give us all the vitriol and we will still be great. I consider it Black girl magic that with all the negative press we still create a lot of things many who hate us want to mimic and be apart of it. And we do it in style.

Some good points here.
By the way, your previous sig was also spot on.

LOL yeah I'm black. Jamaican and Haitian, in fact. #teamdarkskin Everyone in my family can dance except me. I use my height as an excuse and I'm sticking to it!
I just don't do much of social media right now because school takes up too much of my time. I got all of them but I really only use IG and a little Snapchat. I'm on the fence about delete my FB & twitter though. But yeah, this is nothing new, especially with black women. Coincidentally, I remember saying the same thing to my sisters about them exploiting something that was negative when black women did it but then it was suddenly "okay". Remember the and looting during the floods some years ago? And that infamous pic on the news where the media portrayed the blacks were "looting" but the whites were something along the lines of "resourceful"? Aggravating stuff. That's the world we live in now. I have personal examples of some silly stuff. I'm a tall black guy and so the stigma is that I'm some dumb jock...far, faaaar from it. But like you, I could be here all day. Dope that everyone stood up for themselves and put down that disgusting racist undertone of that ht. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, imo.
This the only forum you frequent? I'm gonna start tagging you on the Knicks board. Their OT stuff is great at times and it'd be cool to have another voice in there.

Just so that I'm clear, are you saying that Eric Garner's death had nothing to do with racism therefore the "Eric Garner challenge" was stupid?
DWadeno3 wrote:My bad, I was referring to the Eric Sheppard challenge, don't know how I got those two confused with one another, must be the late hour I'm posting at over here.
The Eric Garner death was most likely motivated by racism and the protests in his case, such as the I can't breathe shirts, are justified and get the message across in the right way.
