The issue with trading for Turner is it would almost never make sense for both Toronto and Indiana unless other teams are involved.
Giving up Siakam for Turner would require Indiana to send out an additional 10.5M and Indiana doesn't have any sweeteners in that 10-15M range (just Lamb or Warren) to consider a deal; Turner+Lamb or Turner+Warren just isn't a good return for an all-star caliber player like Siakam. Giving up FVV for Turner would be instant regret. As we've seen this season, we fall apart without FVV on the floor (+14 on/off) and we need his three-point shooting + point of attack defence. Giving up OG for Turner is an absolute no. OG is younger and far more valuable. Giving up Scottie for Turner is an even bigger no than for OG. Not happening.
Indiana won't -- or at least
shouldn't -- be interested in our expirings (Dragic and Boucher) and we don't have enough mid-tier salaries to make many other deals worthwhile unless Indiana is taking back 3-4 players and waiving one or two of their own. We're also in no position to be trading a 1st RD pick, so those type of deals are out too.
The only trade that might make sense is a straight-up GTJ for Turner swap. They're making similar money for the next two years (~18M) and they'll both likely be due for a pay increase in 2023/24. The major difference is GTJ will be turning 25 while Turner will be turning 28. I don't think a GTJ for Turner deal makes either team noticeably better in the short term or long term though.
