Kyrie's career is definitely an interesting one.
People constantly say he doesnt help teams win. Yet he hasnt been on a team that has missed the playoffs since he was 21 years old. He's won a championship, he has the 8th highest PPG in finals history.
He is probably one of the highest talked about players when it comes to how other players talk about him. Other players seem to be in awe of his skills. I also think fans hate him more than his teammates and other players in the league do.
No doubt he cant be a team's #1 because of how often he gets injured and just him mentally checking out at times it seems. I dont think anyone even attempts to try and make that argument anymore. But I think more than probably even LeBron. I think many people have a hard time separating how they personally feel about Kyrie and his ability on the court. When he is on the court, he is an elite player. I mean hell the dude put up a 27/5/6 on 50/40/92 shooting season last year. He's ridiculously talented and yes when he is playing he most definitely helps his team.

Its funny I thought this year and last year Kyrie really put it all together.
He really improved on defense and is actually great at getting his teammates involved now.
Unfortunately dude is full out insane, giving up potentially over a 100m dollars and a 3 year championship window because he read some anti vaccine conspiracies on Instagram

Kyrie has played 91 games total in the last three regular seasons. It's kind of hard to rate a basketball player who doesn't play much basketball.

After seeing this, and subsequent clutchness, I consider him underrated if anything...

You said “he hit one great shot and everyone thinks he’s a god. Easy to look unstoppable when you’re playing with the best player in the world”. That literally means “along for the ride”.
And by the way, when I made that claim, multiple people defended it and even agreed with it. And I have no problem posting them.
You have no credibility. None. You’re a deranged Nets homer who has no original thoughts and can’t comprehend basic things. Stop wasting my time.
I don’t think it is ridiculous to say Kyrie was along for the ride in Cleveland. Every team Lebron has played for has contended for a title with or without Kyrie. As good as Kyrie is, he can’t carry a team that way. No chance he is in position to make that big shot in 2016 if he wasn’t playing with Lebron. How many playoff games has he even been in without Lebron or Durant? Just his last season in Boston. Given the talent on that team, his playoff performance that year was an embarrassment. That same team made the ECF the season before and after without him.
"there's a reason no one agrees with you"
Someone immediately agrees with me.
Hello Brooklyn just continuing to take them L's.
One person finally.
Congrats. You want a medal?

Last year was his best season in the league.
Reached a new level offensively. Improved on defense.
Was the most consistent Net on a #2 seed.
Shame it all went to hell this year.

Kyrie Derangement Syndrome at its finest.
If you don't like him thats fine. At least pretend to be objective.
??? it's the truth. nothing i said was made up. basically everywhere he goes he screwed everything up, ruins team chemistry and makes everything worse for the team. he isn't that good of a player that his off court stuff is justifiable. there's only a couple handful of those players in the league and he certainly isn't on that level.

Lol there are certain players you can absolutely disregard the realgm "consensus" on because its based out of emotions/bias and Kyrie is one of those players

He is literally not overrated cause Dame is the one who is in the Top 75 not him. And Kyrie really is better than Harden and Westbrook too. But that is not consensus, so how does that make him OVERrated? He’s underrated by people who don’t understand hoop

The question isn’t that he’s overrated, he might be the most skilled point guard ever. The question is how good could he have been if he truly gave a crap about basketball and had his head on straight? He’s one of the bigger disappointments in league history given his talent.

At the end of the day, if Kyrie and KD are able to be on the same court, good luck beating them this postseason. The Sixers just didn't look like they belonged on the court with KD and Kyrie tonight. Kyrie has the secret trump card of being a great defender and not needing free throws to get buckets, and KD is a cheat code. I think the Sixers would have a hard time beating the Nets with the roster as is. But when/if Ben Simmons is integrated and he's able to be a 16/8/6 on 60 TS% guy with all-nba defense, I don't see it for the Sixers, or the Bucks.

I agree with all of this, but even the No. 1 option stuff is overblown. People used to mean "can't take an average team to the playoffs" when they said people couldn't be the No. 1 option, but Kyrie is clearly capable of that based on impact stats, and he clearly did that in 2018-2019 with the Celtics. Availability — whether due to his eccentricity or injuries — is a good reason to say he can't be a NO. 1 option, but a guy that has a prime BPM of 6 and averages of 25/4/6 on +4 TS% and is a neutral on defense and can play on or off ball is just an elite player, period.
The only 'No. 1 option on a championship team" type guys are LeBron, KD, Luka, peak Steph, Jokic, Kawhi, Harden maybe before this year, Jimmy Butler in certain years, Embiid, Giannis...and that's it basically, maybe I'm missing a person.
His run between his first Celtics season and last year was insane, he was clearly a top 10-15 player then. He is now too, but unfortunately. his being an anti-vaxxer keeps him out of a rhythm until recently, and this best players convo.

In the team I work for we have a "no ahole rule". Which means, no matter how talent you are if you are an ahole you are eventually detrimental to the team.
Kyrie is an ahole .

There is no such thing as a number one option type guy on a championship team. You either win a championship or you're a great player who hasn't won a championship. There's no such thing as Peak Steph. Steph has proven he can be a number one option on a championship team. Luka, Jokic, and Harden haven't proven anything. Luka hasn't made it out the first round, and Harden and Jokic folded like a cheap tent when they made it to the Western Conference Finals. The NBA Finals is the biggest stage in the game, and when Kyrie was on that stage he wasn't performing as a second option. His availability is a legitimate concern, but when he is on the court in high-pressure moments he is as good as anyone in the game PERIOD.

This is actually pretty interesting because I believe Lillard, Harden, and Westbrook have quite clearly been better NBA players than Irving, but Irving to me is quite clearly the best pure basketball player out of all of them. You would take Irving above them in a FIBA/Olympic game and you would take Irving over them in a pickup game.
