Since when is 'brick' derogative?
It implies his shots are bricks.
But they are bricks

More than a 50% chance he completely misses.

But they are bricksNot to mention that WB does that stupid "rocking the baby" celebration and other stuff that he obviously has no problems with. Typical 'can dish it can't take it" guy
While somewhat true Richard, in the context of an NBA defense, do you honestly think he wouldnt shoot 100% against you or a random sports shouting talk show host? Also, it seems difficult to get so many triple doubles that you are league MVP, and really shoot bricks. I think it is mostly on him for relatively inefficient shot selection, but that said, he is among the best in the world, so maybe another NBA pro would have credibility calling him that, but a media guy with no game at all?
Im not defending him or his style of play (which is pretty amazing stuff BTW), but it is a derogatory nickname, just as I said. Its like calling someone ugly. The fact that they are ugly does not mean it not still insulting. Hey as a GS fan I hated the guy, but repect for opponents used to be a thing lauded.
I agree with your thin skin comment. He should ignore Skip and not think twice about him.

Nah, being ugly is an ad hominem / personal insult, otoh saying that his shooting sucks is legit criticism - his basketball performance is definitely something that should be open to criticism, same as any other player's.

It implies his shots are bricks. Which seems by definition insulting to a basketball player. He is an NBA pro. Those guys seem pretty much among the best 100 people in the world at putting a certain ball through a hoop. For an old dude who likely can hit a free throw to throw shade like that is pretty much pure envy.
Its not that big a deal though. The brick is not because he is build like a brick or something vaguely complimentary is it?
The difference being us in the masses using the name aren't being paid millions to put the ball in the hoop, while he is.

Objectively, though, he is inefficient relative to his peers, has poor shooting range and proficiency relative to his peers apart from right at the rim. It js highly accurate, ironically, to discuss his inability to make shots. He isnt known or possessed of accolades because he is a GOOD scorer...

Of course. I clearly stated in my own posts that he is relatively inefficent. Some players are relatively unathletic, so would it be ok to call them Westcripple or something like that?
It is one thing to say, Westbrook is relatively inefficient. It is another to make up a derogatory name. Its like the idiots on RGM that call Draymond Green 'Donkey' because his mouth is large and he is talkative. While Dray is talkative, that name is clearly an insult and one that shows the speaker as a lower class communicator for using the slur.
Call him Westbrick if you like, but it says more about the person using the term than it says about Westbrook. Anonymous internet trolls seem to think it is ok to fling insults that would likely get them a facepunch in a private face to face setting. It is cowardly and IMHO shows poor upbringing.
But its also not that big a deal. A parking ticket in the world of sub par deeds, so I will withdraw from pointing out that on RGM, and generally dont care here. I hold a media figure hired to do a reporting job to a higher standard.

But the reason why nobody gets "a facepunch in a private face to face setting" is because celebrities are too scared to mix with fans for fear of being punched or assassinated etc.
Its not our fault that we can only talk to the players online..... so there is nothing cowardly about it. And our comments online are so powerful because Westbrick and KD reply to people online (although Westbrick was only replying to Skip Bayless, not a fan).

Degrees of difference there, of course. "Cripple" has broader implications and specific attacks on a person beyond the sport. A nickname addressing his inadequacy in his capacity as a $40 million sports star is a little closer to the realm of the appropriate for fans voicing accurate issues with his play.
Even still, if his name was like Maurice and he was unathletic and people called him Slow Mo or something, jt is what it is. Hypersensitivity is as much a problem as people lacking appreciation for boundaries.

Skip Bayless' job, like Stephen A Smith, is literally to be an asshat troll. He is a modern age agent provocateur driving views/clicks with outlandish hot takes and nonsense. That is why he is paid. This is precisely what he should be doing. Treating him with an expectation of integrity is not the correct approach.

Re: Westbrook mad again at being called “Westbrick”
I disagree. I don't think you can deduce much about a person simply from them saying "Westbrick" because human beings are complex and multi-faceted. The term Westbrick on the other hand is objectively truthful, as it accurately identifies Russ as a bricklayer by NBA standards without making any statement about his character.PizzaSteve wrote:Call him Westbrick if you like, but it says more about the person using the term than it says about Westbrook.

its fans being fans. This is how pro sports work. You root for your team and root against other players/teams. Westbrick is as light-hearted as it gets. What are we even talking about lol
