This guy can't go left, and it was heavily exploited in the playoffs. Your reward, here, have the largest contract in NBA history, larger than your contemporaries who are far better than you.

Oh yeah, cue Jaylen Brown asking for a trade in a year to one destination lmao. Not to mention they'll pay him even more with that trade kicker.

Nobody's going to trade for that contract.

i feel like every time this is the consensus on RealGM that you can basically go ahead and bet the farm on them being traded within 2 years

He’s on 6m payment schedule so he will be payed in shorter time .. if 3 years down road they want to trade him and he’s still all star lets say . Yea that works

How long until JB wants out because Tatum and KP want too many of his shots?

Ya id rather trade him this summer, even if it meant only getting 30 cents on the dollar. That to me is better value than having Brown take up 35% of the cap, especially with the new 2nd apron rules kicking in a couple years. The flaws in his game are so severe that I dont ever see him getting to the point of being anywhere close to this kind of value.

Trade a dude on last year of contract taking away all leverage of more money where he can sign basically same contract anywhere. Cool, love me a sixth man role player and 2026 protected first.

None of that makes any sense. He was never going to give a team trading for him any indication he would resign because he had 100million reasons not to cuz staying in Boston was his angle. Trading was never an option unless you go back to last season and get kd

He seems like a player who puts up great numbers until the competition tightens up in the playoffs. Then his flaws get exposed and his name gets tossed around in trade rumors, as its a foregone conclusion that he's not good enough to be a top guy on a championship team.

I guess anyone can improve. And maybe Porzingis is the missing ingredient to make up for Brown's weaknesses. But I don't think anyone could possibly think that he deserves to make 44% of the salary cap. That's what is likely to look so bad here going forward.

BTW, do we even need a salary cap anymore? The Hornets just sold for $3B. Teams can afford to pay a lot in salaries. Maybe just give each team an allotment of money every offseason to spend on unrestricted free agents. You can give more to teams that finish lower in the standings and less to teams that are higher.

Aren't they a year away from having to pay Tatum too? They might have trouble fielding a starting 5 after those two contracts.

If the Grant contract is brilliant the Barnes deal is Genius level, point is the celtics didn't have the cajones to do the right thing and offer him a reasonable salary. No way he ever lives up to the deal hes not even a legit franchise player.

There is a big difference though between Brown living up to a rookie extension (that wasnt even the rookie max extension) and living up to a Super max.

No there isn’t.

As someone already stated, 2-3 years into this deal there will be a dozen guys that have higher salaries than this.

He was always getting this contract. People KILLED the Celtics when Brown signed his last contract. 99% of the GB despised the deal and of course, as usual they were all wrong.

Trade kicker doesn't matter much as long as he's making up to his max, a kicker can't exceed that.

Celtics had to choose between trading Jaylen for 20 cents on the dollar or overpay him, they overpaid him. Probably the right call

Oh it’s not debatable to me. Guys who are great scorers but don’t do anything else all that well are frequently overrated.

Jaylen Brown is elite at one thing: play finishing. If you get him the ball in a strong position he can score (usually). But he has so many holes in his game. Even his man defense, which was great in the past, fell off hard this past season.

I think this contract is going to be really tough for the Celtics IF Jaylen Brown continues to stagnate as he appeared to start doing last year and can’t do anything other than score off ball well. You just can’t pay a guy who’s ultimately an off ball scorer who isn’t a great defender or playmaker max money no matter how good he is at it.

You don't have much leverage in a trade with a 1 year contract player. It's just that kinda situation where you gotta bite the pill IMO. What else could have been done? Besides the kicker I'm fine with it, not because I like the contract but just because this was exactly what he was gonna get.. the max.

He was pretty valuable to them in the playoffs, when Tatum couldn’t get it going Brown usually stepped up. But you have to be consistent night in night out in order to be considered a superstar, but now Brown is making Superstar money without the consistency that comes with being one. I don’t blame anyone for signing, but it does come with a lot more criticism in respects to his game, or lack of it rather.

$60 million a year for a finge all star player who can’t dribble is pretty insane.

Brown is 3rd player at best on championship team. He should be traded ages ago instead he got supermax. Celtics are done, we won't win the tile with Tatum and Brown as 1st and 2nd option. It's the end of Celtics being a contender.
