This team may not be want you want them to be today. But the season is still young. Embiid is going to come back, PG will settle into his role, Maxey will be back. And it is the ECF's and loosing to the Celtics for us.
I'll bump this post in a few months just to say I told you so.
That may well be the outcome, but the outlook is way different now than it was 8 games ago.
8 games ago, I thought your prediction was a strong possibility, but we'd have a decent chance of beating the Celtics - or whoever else we'd run into on the way to a championship. That's assuming everyone's healthy, and of course it's not that we'd be favorites - just that we were contenders.
Now, I think your prediction is a strong possibility, but we also have a decent chance of losing in the 1st or 2nd round... with almost no chance of getting into or winning the NBA finals.
If we were a league-average or slightly below average team without Embiid, I think he'd make us contenders. We're not. He's going to make us a playoff team again, and our ceiling might well be the conference finals. But we might not make it that far.
I never thought this team would be going to a be an NBA championship team this seasontbut I still do believe an eastern conference appearance in the finals is very possible. I think a lot of overreaction is taking place by fans on this board. The road to the Eastern Conference Finals is a marathon not a sprint. We are just slow out of the starters block. If this team was 1-8 and Embiid was playing, I would say the season is over. But we have not had a full game with our starters playing together yet. They will get it together.
