A backcourt of Morant-Quick intrigues me a bit. I think IQ would excel as a SG w/ his primary ballhandler duties revoked.

Morant is an excellent playmaker and would be a huge upgrade at the PG position over IQ.

lol no, decent chance that doesn't even make us better in the short term much less the long term

He has a higher ceiling that RJ so I would do that deal. Remove the 2 1sts and give them Mamu (we likely can't re-sign him anyway).

Poeltl / Mogbo
Barnes / CMB
Ingram / Walter / Battle
Morant / Martin
IQ / Shead

I think going forward with 2 PGs full time as starters is the way to go. If you include Shead that gives us a lethal 3 man guard rotation. We also have CMB for a solid big man rotation. I think the others including Martin, Battle, Hepburn, etc will have a couple guys who make the jump into the rotation. I would give them more minutes.

Morant is worth less than Young. He is not fetching any firsts

Yeah but IQ is trash, things are relative. If we can get him without much picks it's a win, sunk cost and all.

Morant has been horrendous scoring the ball this year, hes probably the worst shooter in the league, and his rim finishing and midrange shooting is in the bottom 25th percentile. Not to mention the long term concerns of him going forward AND the fact hes only played in 18/39 games this year and has barely played at all the past 4 seasons do to various injuries + suspensions.

Im not convinced were a better team longterm with Ja and i think theres a good argument we wouldnt improve much (or at all) tomorrow if we swap Morant for IQ.

Well you don’t get Morant at this price if he is playing top notch. Morant really came off the rails the past few years and maybe he needs a change of scenery. Really feels like Memphis dealing with a Vince Carter like situation. A player at one point was thought to be one of the future face of the league. Had a few playoff runs and then came short had some injuries and came off the rails and then started to screw the pooch.

Hmm...it's tempting if you get him super cheap, but I think too much baggage for a guy who makes very poor life decisions, isn't a great shooter, relies way too much on his explosiveness to be effective, and is injury prone.

Yes, he was unbelievable 3 years ago in his prime athleticism, but with injuries he is not the same player.

His game will get worse and worse as he ages.

Even worse than Vince considering Vince was a bigger, stronger guard and he was still playing like a top 10 player when healthy in the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons, before deliberately sucking early in the 2004-2005 season.

Morant hasn't played at an all-star level since 2023, he's never been a particularly good shooter, he's undersized and has a skinny body.

I'd do that deal if the 2 FRP went the other way :D

It would be weighing the pros and cons of having him.

Can Darko reignite him?

How will spacing look with Scottie and Yak both out there along with RJ potentially.

We know Ja isn't a great defender either but can run a team on offense. It's a tough call. But I guess if we got him for primarily IQ then it could be a positive even though IQ can at least (inconsistently shoot).

Not sure he's better than IQ at defense

If we trade a FRP for Morant I would be disgusted. Don't even want IQ+Ochai for him

It could definitely be a VC situation where he suddenly makes a 10ppg jump because he's in a new destination. People are making too big a deal of his drop in production. The real issue is that he's an idiot off the court, unlike VC.

Not saying they should go for Ja, but I think if they did trade Quick for him, you would automatically see the massive talent difference between the two players. The team would look totally different & people would be saying "holy crap.....I can't believe we have a PG who can get to the rim so easily & make something our of nothing".

I agree. BI was in a similar situation as well, but VC is a better example for Ja.

What a perfect video. Seeing him torch some of the same players that Quickley went up against last night. Philly also had way more talent for this game & he was still able to get what he wanted.

If we do it, I hope it's Quickley & not RJ going the other way.

With the Darko connection, I am starting to believe there is something to this. It may be our next Kawhi level trade.

If this team won’t tank, can’t land a superstar in free agency, and cannot land one via trade then the only way to improve the talent level is by taking on reclamation projects. i’m all for Morant, Ball and others who have low value. Worst case, roi rehab their value and flip for picks or prospects.

Otherwise what’s the plan? Barnes and Ingram aren’t leading this team to a ring. People here scoffed at Durant, Donovan Mitchell, every star player who was available as if we are contenders.

ESPN said that the best trade available for the Grizzlies will be Ja for IQ, Ochai, 20026 lottery protected 1st.

I know Ja doesnt fit the team by being another non shooter on the court and being a shooter off the court but that is amazing value. Id prefer Ball simply because I think his shooting/passing fits better but if he's not available then it'd be hard for me to turn that down.

Swap the 2026 protected 1st for the 2027 protected first and I am game.

Ja makes more money for 1 less yr than IQ, if IQ is a bad contract then what on earth is Ja s'pose to be?

You're paying Ja based on past production, hoping he can regain form in a new situation. He did finish top 10 in MVP voting in 2022.

We're paying IQ for production that never happened and never will happen. IQ is a bench player 7th/8th man on a serious team, but making all-star money.
