There's a picture floating around the internet of, apparently, the initial quartet for Evolution. And it was Mark Jindrak instead of Batista.

There are, I think two, similar but somewhat different explanations that could work. One, they could say they want to get there hands on HHH and the best way to do this is to first get rid of his henchmen. The other would be they want to destroy the regime one-by-one and that starts with The Shield, then Orton, then HHH. Or HHH then Orton.

yep. take out the pawns first before you get to the king.

I have really ambivalent feelings about Evolution. I liked a lot of the stuff Orton did, actually I love most of what Orton did. But I hated HHH during that time. I pretty much hate him now, but it was at its highest point during that time.

I don't think tugs should shrug at his simple suggestion. If you're two dudes in the audience, there isn't an easy way to get to H. The only time he comes to the ring, The Shield are shielding him. Orton didn't really do anything besides beat the two of them clean in wrestling matches. They'd be real **** heads to go after him.

Cody eventually going over Orton would be a fitting conclusion to this story because the reason it began was because he lost to him ie wasn't as good as him. So him eventually going over Orton clean in a big match would seem to be the clearest indication that he is now elevated from where he was prior to being "fired."

I think it comes down to Rhodes taking out The Shield as the regime's executioners of sort, eventually allowing DB to get that clean win and giving them a feud opponent while intertwining the storylines. It's not like Rhodes is instantly going to come in and challenge for the WWE title.

Which is why I'd actually stick with them being fired and keep attacking guys. It's almost like the Sting side of things in WCW for a while. Let them be on the outside while the focus is on DB and then when Cody gets back in he's next in line to take over and take the belt. Maybe around the time Cena comes back and Cena could join up with Trips being the Face of WWE is back.

They're clearly setting up some sort of match between the Rhodes' and The Shield. Maybe a 6-man, maybe a tag match, maybe they do an injury angle with Dusty and Dolph replaces him (since he's basically feuding with Ambrose right now). That's the reason it happened. I'm looking for a storyline explanation. The Rhodes have much bigger things to worry about than whether Bryan gets a fair shake in his World Title quest and if you want to intertwine the stories like that I don't think you can do it until Cody is firmly re-hired.

Like I said, for whatever reason WWE doesn't like dragging out these rogue storyline. Punk was back 8 days later and I'd like to believe that was because the second biggest PPV every year was 4 weeks away and if the next PPV was some B-level PPV they would've kept Punk out longer but I can't say that with any certainty. They brought back Matt Hardy just a few weeks after he hopped the rails and attacked Edge. And both of those storylines had much, much more real life backstory to them than this does.

Does anyone remember when Cena and Otunga won the Tag Titles from Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre?

We've come a long way from the crap we were getting from WWE just a few short years ago.

Also, as bad as the spinner belt was, was it any worse than this atrocity?

The spinner belt was terrible but the worst part of it IMO was that it was John Cena's belt that was worn by people other than Cena. I loved the smoking skulls belt but seeing Taker or Rock walking around with the smoking skulls belt would've been ridiculous.

Yeah, the longevity of the spinner is part of why it's one of the worst title belts ever. The new one doesn't do much for me -- it's just generic and unimaginative -- but hell, it's an improvement.
