Saw it today, great movie. Nolan at his best. As someone who studies and works in film and video it was a joy to watch how it was shot.

Can't wait for GoT tonight.

Dunkirk is amazing visually. I did also appreciate that the story was kept modest with no fake love stories to drive the narrative or whatever.

This GoT episode leaked earlier this week, and well... **** is starting to get real.

I heard and saw some YouTube video suggestions about the leaks but I didn't watch anything yet. And agree on the modest storytelling.

Last night's GOT was the best hour of TV I can remember. Just awesome.

Running out of stuff to watch lol. Is the offseason over yet?

Dude idk about the show but the book is ACE. I'm sure Slart is a fan as well.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was butchered when they made the movie. In comparison, the Dirk Gently show is reasonable :)

(In fairness, and in my opinion, Douglas Adams' work is more about the words he chooses than about the plots themselves. It's impossible to capture that on screen.)

I just recently added Dirk Gently to my Watch List on Hulu but haven't had a chance to actually watch it. Glad to hear it's decent (agreed about the HGttG movie, SD).

Hey Crowder, if you were watching Dirk Gently on Hulu, they also have a show called Black Sails (originally on Starz) which I really loved (and can't wait for season 4 to get to Hulu) and highly recommend it. It's kind of a prequel to the novel Treasure Island but also incorporates a ton of interesting historical facts from the era it's set in. Plus lots of nudity and cannonball explosions. :D If you like pirates -- and, I mean, who doesn't like pirates -- I think you'd like this show.

A couple old ditties that I like. They work best if listened to LOUD.

You seem the humble type, but I think it's safe to say that you and I have the most eclectic (and the best) taste in music on the forum. Not even the Husker Du fans I know are into Sugar. My friend saw them play in Philly right after Prince passed away and he said it was incredible, and that Bob was very emotional . Just shows how Prince was a huge influence in every facet and genre of music. I still can't believe he and Bowie are gone.

Another dope track from their debut ("A Good Idea"):

As a massive Douglas Adams fan, I actually quite enjoyed the movie other than Sam Rockwell's annoying and over the top Zaphod, and the whole bit with the John Malkovic character. I agree that his writing is hard to translate to screen, but I thought using Stephen Fry as the narrator to try and get across some of the little comedy nuggets from the Guide worked. I thought they did the Vogon's quite well too.

Has anyone read the Eoin Colfer sixth book? I was a bit unsure how to feel when I finished it to be honest, it wasn't a bad story but perhaps knowing it wasn't Adams clouded my view somewhat.

I loved the two Dirk Gently books too, does the TV show have the comedy component to it? I haven't watched it but I remember seeing a preview to it and it was a bit hard to tell if they had included the comedy or just the existential crime solving.

I am humble, and my taste in music is the best I can afford ;) I'll listen to the videos you posted later, I'm stepping out in a moment.

I think both Prince and Bob Mould are from Minneapolis. Maybe there was a personal relationship (which would explain his being very emotional)?

Yes, I love "A Good Idea," though it probably drew too much inspiration from the Pixies' "Debaser" ;)

OKay I'll bite. I like songs that cover another song but the versions arent really alike. i.e. they flip the script.

Here's the original.

Then the cover in the debut for TV On The Radio (2003, Young Liars EP)

There is a comedic component, but the weakness is the casting. The guy who stars as Dirk Gently is not a very good actor in my opinion (at least not in this role). Elijah Wood might not be the best person for comedy. Fiona Dourif, on the other hand, is actually pretty cool.

I used to be a big fan of Cyndi Lauper's first record. This song is great, as well as the one written by Prince. They've both aged well (they are over 30 years old!).

I didn't know that Flaming Lips song, but it rocks. The only FL album I'm really familiar with is "Transmissions from the Satellite Heart."

That Q Lazzarus song! From that disturbing "Silence of the Lambs" scene. Haha!
