Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
NY Post article about Aaron Nesmith, so obviously written from a Knick’s perspective, but still worth a quick read:
https://nypost.com/2020/11/08/vandys-aaron-nesmith-could-be-2020-nba-draft-gem-knicks-seek/
They reference Stackhouse’s relationship with Scott Perry in NY, but he also had a good relationship with Casey in Toronto, so I’m sure the Pistons have good intel on Nesmith as well. They met with him and worked him out, so probably more than a sleeper candidate. Might be the guy they target if they trade down a few spots.

I think that's the real key that doesn't get discussed:mattao313 wrote:BJK1 wrote:I really like Okoro. He was really bad from the college 3, shooting 29%. His offense was largely limited to driving to the rim (which he is good at), but NBA defenders will sag off of him to take his lanes away, essentially daring him to shoot.
While the optimistic comparison to Okoro is Jimmy Butler, the fact is that while Butler isn’t a threat from 3, he’s got a nice mid range game. And if he’s fouled going to the rim, Butler is a really good, clutch FT shooter (84% career avg.). Okoro shot 67% from the FT line last season, so pretty unreliable there. He’s undoubtedly worked hard over the past several months to try to improve his shooting (he stated that he’s added more arc to his shot), so we’ll see. But the shooting concerns are valid.
every year the athletic guy who cant shoot is compared to Butler and Kawhi, they are the exception to the rule most guys will not develop like that. I see more of MKG/ Hollis-Jefferson/ OG Anunoby I think he has a high floor but so so ceiling
Will Okoro (& Williams or someone else) actually develop into something special?
It's the mindset that seperates players!
Here's hoping our FO have done their homework - they've had plenty of time.
Probably should also note that with so much time inbetween games and the Draft it's easy to become infatuated with potential and possibilities and also to pick apart the weaknesses in every kid.
That might be part of the reason Okoro has fallen while Williams has been on the rise despite them being very similar

If Williams goes before Okoro, it’ll probably be because teams believe more in his potential as a shooter (32% from 3 and 84% from the FT line) than Okoro’s.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
I know its not going to happen, but I want Hayes in this draft. I believe he is the best player in the draft with his playmaker abilities, and that drive to be the best.
It won't happen though, as either he won't be there at #7, or the Pistons will take someone else, who I will hate. I've given up caring about the draft to be honest as it never pans out for the Pistons. Either a mediocre position (always) a pick that doesn't pan out, (Johnson, Andre, Pope, Monroe, e.t.c)or they get traded and then explode.
#7 sucks, and this year's pick will be no different.

I think the pick comes down to Haliburton, Williams, and Hayes. Possibly in that order. Just my opinion.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
do you think Detroit could draft Okongwu with the 7. Trade a resigned Woods and future 1 for the 2 pick and match up Okongwu and Lamelo and reform their high school connection?
Lamelo
Kennard ---- Vanvleet
Sekou --- (kennard for Nesmith)
Blake ---- (Sekou future blake)
Okongwu
...
Would you rather have Woods at 15mil or Okongwu at 5 mil a year?

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
Hoping for either Hayes or Kira Lewis Jr. Lewis is actually my favorite player in the draft. Don’t care what the “experts” are saying about his draft position. Had we seen him in March Madness, I think he would have been a Top 5 pick.
I like Killian Hayes too. Reminds me of Harden a bit, not just because he’s a lefty either, he plays similar. He will be hard to guard in the NBA. The obvious connection with Sekou would be nice too. I don’t like Haliburton, looks like a future role player to me. I think Hayes and Lewis Jr have star potential.
I like Patrick Williams, but I want a point guard in this draft. Isiah, Chauncey.. we need a leader for this team.

The Pistons worked out Lewis, so you never know. I posed this (very hypothetical) question here a couple of weeks ago - would Lewis be getting more draft hype if he wore a Kentucky jersey instead of an Alabama one?

I like Kira Lewis as the best PG prospect outside of Lamelo. Hope the pistons dont trade anything and just pick him at 7

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
Wonder if Phoenix would be willing to give up that 10th pick for Kennard now.
They are definitely gunning for the playoffs after the CP3 trade and we've already seen a western conference team trade the 16th and a 21st first Covington.
Could end up with Williams that way (if the interest is real) and hopefully Hayes at 7.

Doubt it changes anything. I think they were planning on competing this year no matter what.

Yeah but they did want him before but couldn't decide on protections, maybe they are comfortable with 10 since they wanted shooting and already got their PG.

Yeah, could be. My feeling is likely not. I don’t think Luke ever carried that kind of value. I doubt they were ever receptive to giving up a pick that converts this year.
