What did you learn from playing with Payton Pritchard?
That the only hope of competing is to let shots fly from deep.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Payton Pritchard!
Payton Pritchard scored 19pts last night to pass Eric Williams to become #40 in career points in the history of the Celtics!
This season so far, Payton has moved above Chris Ford, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Gerald Henderson, Dino Radja, Paul Silas and now Eric Williams to become 40th leading scorer in Celtics history!

You look back at draft night, when so many commentors said Danny Ainge really reached to take Payton Pritchard in the first round, and PP has really proved the doubters wrong by establishing himself as significant player here in Boston!

Kinda crazy Brandon Bass is top 50. Guess that happens when your nickname is No Pass Bass.

Just read the first couple of pages of this thread. Lots of good posters here didn't think PP was a good pick and he was reach. Most of them are on PP bandwagon now, I guess.

But I'm sure you already knew that...
But Waters can at least pester opposing PGs, rap on Pritchard is that he might not be quick enough to keep up with a bunch NBA PGs.
Waters was SEC co-defensive player of the year as a sophomore, 3.6 steals per 40.
Our biggest issue last year was bench shooting. I mean if you watched this team last year it was immediately apparent. We didn't lose games because of a "lack of pestering opposing guards". We didn't lose because we couldn't turn the ball over. We had difficulty all year producing OFFENSE off the bench. This kid does that. Whatever his weaknesses may be, Pritchard potentially addresses a huge need from last season.
My 2nd post on Payton after we drafted him. Offense and shooting off the bench. He has been every bit that. Glad to see that has come to pass.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Payton Pritchard!
Looking back at the first pages of the thread, some posters were offended that Danny went with players who could provide shooting, which was a roster need, rather than going for upside.
I think this was reasonable criticism at the time of the draft, and Danny took a lot of heat at the time for his 2020 draft: Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard and then two other controversial decisions:
1. Not packaging to move up to #10 when Tyrese Haliburton fell and Phoneix was said to be shopping the 10th pick, but Danny wouldnt meet the price
2. Packaging Enes Kanter and #30 (Desmond Bane) to Memphis for a couple future 2nds and opening the space to sign Tristan Thompson in Kanter's spot
But as it turned out Nesmith and Pritchard was a great draft, and I think drafting shooters who fit a role, was also something of a reaction to 2019's draft: Romeo, Grant, Carsen Edwards, Tremont Waters where it seems Brad didn't feel like the players fit well with our core (ex- Grant who was a nice fit at the time)
Danny was overall a great drafter who loved the draft! Payton Pritchard is probably still underrated and Danny grabbing him, an old 6-0 white point guard, in the face of the criticism of reaching for a guy who shoulda gone in the 40s, was a GREAT draft steal by AInge

My birthday twin puts in another match winning performance off the bench.
Well and truly our fourth best player now after The Jays and Buffalo. So proud of him.

I love this kid! He's a true Celtic. I'd almost build a team around him. Him and Jaylen. Trade Tatum.
