Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
I don’t really blame Silver for all this nonsense. Players haven’t been given any additional power by the league they’ve taken it by force. They have a strong union & individual stars have a lot of power because of their importance on the court & economic importance off of it.
I definitely think there are long-term costs to players employing this strategy. But preventing these types of trade request is a really difficult collective action problem to solve.

Sure but to what end? Next year, iirc, its Brown, Siakam and then 1000 feet of **** in FA. Flexibility for flexibility's sake doesn't make a lot sense unless we are gonna be a dumping grounds and plan on rebooting.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Goodwin saying he wants Portland to have meaningful talks with Miami is funny. Translation: We want our way because Dame is getting really mad so we want you to take whatever Miami offers so Dame can stop being mad.
On draft night, Rich Paul is calling teams telling them not to draft his client. Goodwin is calling teams telling them not to trade for his client. Adam Silver has left this league with no integrity, and helps funnel players to destination teams by allowing this nonsense. If players want to go to a specific team, don’t sign an extension or opt-in. If I’m Portland, I’m not trading him to Miami under any circumstance. Miami created this situation that is causing them to get nothing in return, if Portland caves-in to that strategy, they deserve the slop they get back.
I embraced the player empowerment era in the beginning, but now I'm 100000% team owner. These players are clowns. Shame Lillard ending up in Miami would be the last straw.

Likely Morey's plan. Run it back with this group, then either way go after both of those guys and extend Maxey.
Maxey
Springer
Anunoby
Siakam
Embiid
Can probably still re-sign Melton and then use the MLE and our 2024 1st to fill out the roster.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

Siakam is due to take a stepdown contract. Maybe we can get him to sign a contract in the sub $30m range. Something similar to what Cam Johnson just signed.

I'm a Portland fan and come in peace...
Is there any way we could borrow Daryl Morey in the negotiation talks with Miami?
I'd love to see Dame sitting until the trade deadline

That ain't happening. I'd be surprised if he signs a sub-40M annual deal. There's gonna be a lot of price shock with the cap going up for the next handful of years.

Just ask JRoy to do it. He's pretty unreasonable (oh no, I said the name)

He'll be over 30 next summer. It would take a pretty dumb team to sign him to a multiyear contract over $40m per. Both he and DeRozan better be under $30m players or this league is broke.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
A more realistic trade for Tobi would be to Charlotte for Terry Rozier, Nick Richards, and Cody Martin. Two young guys who have shown flashes of excellent role playing and a microwave scorer. All three of those guys have 3 years left on their deal. With Paul Reed likely moving on, Nick Richards would be an excellent backup to Embiid.
I imagine Rozier would have to come off the bench with Maxey as a starter. If Harden is to be traded, it'd be nice to have a legitimate ball handler on the roster.
Not great, but Tobias isn't great either. And maybe he can teach the idiots on Charlotte to leave the guns/abuse; take the books.

I'd try to work out a sign and trade if not match. I am not a huge Reed fan but he has value around the league and you can't just give him away with our team completely devoid of assets.

This entire sport is objectively a joke. Nothing matters or is solid. Take a look at Ainges offer. It's a joke that PP is still allowed in contracts with crazy unlikely terms for one side. This used to be the case in the NFL but they took it out when I think it was the seahawks lost Hutchinson? Then the other team retaliated and put a PP for Nate Burleson. It's a joke that in 2023 teams are still are allowed to put PP in RFA offers.
Lillard is supposedly one of the most loyal players in the sport's history. The next week he is demanding a trade to only one team, and his agent is telling anyone else interested don't trade for him because if you do he won't report completely screwing over any leverage the Blazers may have. Loyal my ass. This sport has zero integrity. The WWE has more integrity at least everyone walking in knows what they are watching isn't real.
It sucks because the actual game of basketball is beautiful.

No sign and trade possible now, only match or lose him. Once the offer sheet is signed those are the only two options.

Paul Reed may not have the highest IQ in the NBA, but the guy comes to play each and every night. I have always said yes he will make mistakes, but that is how he will get better. With Doc he was not allowed to make those mistakes on a constant basis. You call him "dumb", but the guy has a great work ethic and just needs to be coached the right way. Compare Reed to Kork, just on attitude alone last season. Reed just like Kork was in and out of the lineup but Reed showed up to play like a professional each and every time his number was called. No matter what. Kork on the other had was so unprofessional and just unprepared it was shameful. I'd rather have a guy on my team like Reed who will work hard, and learn from his mistakes than other guys who feel entitled to collect a salary but mope around. I just have a feeling Reed is going to keep getting better and his true role is that of a PF on this team. He will eventually take Tuckers minuets and start. That is my hope for him and this team. He is easily worth the money the Jazz are offering him.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)
