Hennigan: Hey, Houston, it's July 3rd, let's make that deal we talked about
Houston: But Dwight made it clear he won't resign with us.
Hennigan: Yeah, but he probably will, so do we have a deal?
Houston: .....
Hennigan: Hey, Nets, Dwight basically screwed us by saying he'll only play for and resign with you next summer, so let's make a trade. Give us 10 first round draft picks.
Nets: But Dwight said he'd sign with us next summer no matter where he is, so why should we give up anything at all.
Hennigan: Whoa, tough guy. Okay, give us 6 first round picks.
Nets: Nyet.

Here's why I think it's BS that other teams are pulling out of the Dwight sweepstakes.
If you trade for Dwight, and he says he's only signing with a team that has no cap room you call that bluff. Offer him a max deal with the Bird Rights escalators and say "go sign with Brooklyn for the MLE"

Listening to Broussard on ESPN radio and he's already backtracking. The deal is on the table (of course it is) and Orlando is still fielding offers. No where near close to happening.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
I would only do this trade IF the Nets take Hedo, Duhon and JRich back, plus give us 2 or 3 more draft picks.
So we rid ourselves of the those contracts, plus the Howard drama, gain a ton of cap space for 2013/beyond, young talent in Lopez, KH, Brooks and 6 future 1st round draft picks.
Take it or leave it Nets.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
everyone here wants to criticize Rob. No one knows what is happening with these teams. I imagine that many teams have been watching Dwight and are scared of
1-his mental attitude. Crying blackmail, throwing his FO and coach and teammates under the bus, trying to force his way to a place while destroying the team he left behind. Any suitor of Dwight before would have to seriously re-think their stance.
2-him leaving. Yes, NJ cant sign him outright, but what team is going to give up any good asset for a player that can walk away after 1 season to another team.
We only knew of 1 real suitor to Dwight and that was Houston. As star starved as they are, their FO isnt going to allow themselves to be made a complete fool by giving up trade assets to watch Dwight walk away. Maybe if Deron hadnt basically re-signed with NJ, but now thats just a formality.

Rob needs to chill...nets offer is garbage and i would only consider it at the deadline or after next season in a sign and trade.....and dwight will definitly change his mind...or does anybody think he wants to sit out the whole season?

teams dont have advantage of sign and trade after the contract is over. new CBA took care of that.

This is what Henny was left to work with after Otis. The Magic are losing this battle. We can no longer say with a poker face that we will just keep Dwight and let him play this season. Trade partners are cooling off after the circus that is going on each day continues. Who wants to go all season the way the Magic did last year.
If it has to be the Nets, then you use try to make it the best it can be for us. Get every non-protected pick you can get, you never know with injury or meltdown what will happen. Also they can either sign Humphries and Lopez to 1 year deals if they agree or front load the hell out of the contract so they can take our garbage and then Lopez after this year will stay at a decent price. It could work, it was money we would have to spend anyways.

Knowing Howard he would complain about his back and sit until he is traded, then all of the sudden would be healed and thank god for the quick turnaround.

So years ago Dwight complained about the media not giving him and the Magic attention, well look at it now he achieved the attention he wanted and he is crying lol.

Yeah, when I first saw the tweet this morning, I was furious. Turn on 1080 & 740 and that's all they're talking about like it's a done deal. Get in my car, drive to work while listening and Broussard IMMEDIATELY starts backtracking. Then I was like
If came down to Brooklyn or nothing, I'd still just trade him to ATL for Teague, Hou's pick they just got from NJ, and 3 of their own picks. Not even taking King's call.

Great, now Berg is reporting that trade discussions have resumed with the Nets and Magic.

Another Q - why would Lopez agree to the deal? If I'm him I'd rather see what I can get in FA instead of being a pawn to get dumped on a rebuilding team.

Are we talking about the same dwight howard who didn't want to waste a playoff run so he opted in for another year...and now everybody is like he will wait a whole year and then leave us...no freakin way is howard waitin a whole year to see that the nets can not sign him and then explore his options....and on top of that he will sign to a lesser contract....

Rockets still in it thank god.
ESPN probably hate Berg right now since he broke the nothing imminent and multiple teams story.
