Ask yourself this question, take out Blake, who are the 5 best players in the series? After you answer that they you'll realize that this statement doesn't really make sense.

Pelicans can go as high as 18 million per year, I think, or near that amount.

Obviously would be a paycut, but that's the point.

He's not taking a 50% paycut. It will be giving up over 100 million dollars counting the 5th year. You're smarter than this.

Did I say I expect him to do it??

Irony.

Where is the irony? The Clipper players and coaches whine, but all I see on this game thread is Jazz fans (and Clipper haters) bellyaching over the officiating. If you think the league is rigged, I don't see why you'd watch. It just defies logic yet fans use this crutch time and time again.

Depending on Hayward's max, the Jazz can make a couple of deals to open up space for a CP3 max. If they are willing to build proper competition to the Warriors, that might be his best option.

That is a good way to follow the Warriors, they pick up the best players from the team they beat the previous season, Iguodala, Durant. You're on to something here

Well I don't think it quite works like that since the talent isn't equivalent. The Jazz are deeper than the Clippers (with or without Blake) but CP3 is so much better than anyone on their team that it nullifies that. They really don't have any stars. Gobert is great but he and DJ are pretty much a wash (I know there is a Gobert recency bias but DJ could swap into that role and they'd be the same team). Hayward is a good player only getting better, but he's not what I'd call a difference maker. The other guys are all role players, albeit perfect once with good size for their system.

The Jazz won because they executed better. Part of that is the construction of their roster, but coaching is big too. With Blake the Clipps probably pull it out, but even so the Clippers are going to need a better system in place to go anywhere deeper.

The Clipper fans have been great. Your posts have been among the most arrogant I've seen on RealGM, however. ;)

Congrats Utah.

Clippers you have had a good run the last few years, no shame coming up short considering the injuries and the fact that only a handful of teams were ever really above you.

Yeah, I figured. Just busting your chops. No one swings from utter douchebaggery to well reasoned thought that much. ;)

So the over/under on the number games the Jazz will win against GSWs might be 0.5

Paul isn't that much better where if makes up for the Jazz basically having the 4 of the top 6 players in the series. George Hill is more than just a role player too.

If we order it as: Paul, Hayward, Gobert, DJ, Hill, Johnson. Then the Jazz remaining role players are still better. After that we have Ingles, Hood, Favors, Diaw vs Mbah, Redick, Crawford, Pierce, Speights and Rivers for the last two games.

I didn't think they had it in them, but Hood and Ingles stepped up and made their shots. Favors also came up huge with Gobert picking up phantom fouls.

Great series!

I think DJ was clearly better than Gobert this series (give DJ credit for the fact that he never gets injured). Hill and especially JJ were great but how much of that is the system over the talent? Before the series, would someone really have ranked those guys over, say, Redick and Crawford?

Congrats to the Jazz - people have been sleeping on them all season, but hopefully now they will get some attention. Hopefully they can get some wins against the Warriors.
