Case in point, people have been waiting for moments such as this to pounce on. Yes, it was a ridiculous thing to suggest, I get it. Trump has been the most accessible and outspoken President and in doing so he opens himself up for criticism; some of this justified but there are more important matters in the grand scheme of things than this silly notion that he brought up.
so why is Trump unable to open his mouth without saying something as stupid like this. He opens himself up for criticism because hes a loose cannon that says stupid **** on the regular. In times of confusion and uncertainty like this hes just adding fuel to the fire
No one is perfect people F up and learn from it. I'm sure this wasn't his proudest moment, but whatever this should not define him and what he's done for the country over the past 3 years. Judge a person by their actions and intentions rather by their words.
No doubt there are myriads of members of the press/media waiting to hammer him on any hint of a mistake or mis-speak/whatever. He is the one who chose to make his press conferences in the midst of a health crisis into 2 hour campaign rallies however. The similarly conservative Australian PM after being something of a public relations disaster in the Australian bushfires earlier this year appears to have actually learnt from that and has been even in my view which is not particularly conservative fairly apolitical in the so far thankfully lesser crisis in Australia, stuck to economic aspects of the crisis, economic stimuli, help for businesses and employees affected by the lockdown here etc, and left the medical discussions to the health experts. Not that doctors are always right either of course, and should be called out themselves if they make stupid or inaccurate pronouncements.
Both Trump and the Australian PM are absolutely correct imo to consider the economy, both of their own countries and the world in general, I can easily see the economic effects of both the pandemic and the response to same causing more health problems than the pandemic itself, not that the hospitalisation and death rates in NYC, northern Italy and other places in Europe were at all consistent with a functioning economy either of course.
The numbers in the USA look like they may be starting to turn btw, and Americans of any political persuasion have my earnest wishes that this will be maintained.
