Horford just seems like to high a price to pay. I’m not enthusiastic about how they ended up doing the offseason, but I don’t remember there being to many 1sts dumped.

There were few 1sts dumped. Supposedly they bid on one. I would have had it a great deal for Det if they got it; but instead OKC valued it more and didn’t want to partially pay for the dump.

To put it in perspective for you, I was annoyed that Washington got mo Wagner, issac bonga, the other guy and a 2nd for like $1 million before 19-20. And that New York added 3 2nds for renting Ed Davis before this season. Especially when you consider that we ha just absorbed tony Bradley’s contract for them.

Realizing that none of the players are anything special and the 2nds will be mids at best. But you at least add young guys and small assets for practically nothing.

Either one would have helped Detroit along.

Something tells me that OKC won't even bother to conduct the physical on Myers Leonard.

Wouldn't mind getting a 2nd for a player that never showed up in OKC.

I'd be surprised if Miami moved so soon for such a minor pickup. So I'm guessing that's groundwork for a if nothing better comes together move. Either that or a bunch of teams won't take the Leonard PR hit just to cut him(but that would really surprise me) and OKC doesn't care so they are like why not Trevor.

Miami has to be aiming higher than this.

Maybe a three teamer, OKC gets a second for Ariza and for removing the protections from the pick, Houston gets the freed up first, Miami gets oladipo and Ariza? Have a hard time seeing the rockets get that pick for oladipo, just trying to piece together rumors here. Also not sure how Miami comes up with that much matching salary.

Or maybe Ariza goes to Houston for a fourth stint and Miami ends up with Oladipo and Tucker?

The Lakers had to send those 3 guys to the Wizards to clear cap room for the AD trade, which is why they added a 2nd. The third guy was cut immediately and the Wizards are having trouble giving away Bonga and Wagner (whose 4th year option they just shredded up, which is usually an ominous sign for a first round pick).

It doesn't look like there was any other 1st traded as part of a salary dump with the exception of the one attached to John Wall. They were all given away to the Thunder, Pelicans, Rockets for their stars instead. Also, there just aren't as many bad contracts in the league as there used to be.

As for Weaver, I get that sooner picks are good to have, and he seems to have struck silver on the Nuggets free agents, but I too thought he should be collecting 2nds, not handing them out like candy. The concerns on Kennard's knee are valid, but where's the pressure to give him that contract coming from?

Myles Turner related, but from the recent IndyStar article from J.Michael in the series that set off this whole Myles Turner lust-a-thon, and a key piece as to why its hard for Indy to deal him.

Turner may have had just 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks in Denver, but when he goes to the bench the Pacers just aren't the same team defensively.

He was physical against Nikola Jokic. He blocked Jokic's dunk at the rim. He bodied him in the mid-post, stood him up and blocked his shot attempt.

It sounds absurd to suggest Turner made that much of a difference with Jokic's game-highs of 32 points and 14 rebounds. But team defense isn't just about 1 vs. 1 matchups. It's about rotating and helping, tagging, recovering, digging, stunting, closing out, rear pursuits and communicating. And a bunch of other stuff.

When Turner wasn't on the floor, the Pacers were a different team defensively:

Trailing 57-40 with Turner sitting in the 2nd quarter, the Pacers trimmed the deficit to 9 by halftime when he returned.
Turner played the entire third quarter, and the Pacers led 91-87.
Turner sat to start the fourth, and that 4-point cushion became a 104-93 deficit before he could come back with 6:15 left.

Even with the 3 not really panning out, the pistons still lacked practically any young assets, they would have still helped. It was still worth taking the last chance on. Not to mention you basically would pay the million to get a 2nd, so the whole package was basically like a free grab bag.

The kennard and 4 2nds was more about getting bey.

Danny Chau on The Ringer has a pretty interesting article up about the origins of pick protections, how expansion Dallas did The Process decades before Hinkie did it, and some pretty out of the box Morey proposals. Pretty interesting for those of you who care about stuff like this. I recommend it.

Enormous no-brainer. One of the best contracts in the league even with this change.

Absolutely. Dort is fantastic. I’m really happy for OKC fans.

:noway: Except Boston fans don’t want him, and taking him on would be bailing ATL out from a bad contract.

I don't think you speak for all 5 to 10 million or so Boston fans in the world. But I will take this as yours and some others opinions.

Maybe you shouldn't have singled out Boston in the first place? I mean every fan base is guilty of this at times.

Is that against a rule?

I singled out the last team at the time that I remember a fan saying they would do Atlanta a favor and take him for free. Since your last trade proposal today for Gallo and Bogdan, I think one or two Mavs fans said the same thing. But that was after this post you are calling me out for.
