McGee did have a very impressive game last night. He also had a number of very impressive games as a Wizard. Maybe with his second(or third) team, it will click and he will reach a lot closer to his potential.

What will be interesting to see is next season after training camp if he is a key piece of his team, or if he is in a "super-sub" role which may the best way to hide his weaknesses and exploit his strengths.

Both he and young are guys that if you put them around smart players it minimizes their bone head potential.

Apart from them there's a slew of former Wizards. Arenas, Butler, Foye, Miller,

But none of the players are starting. McGee had a great game last night. He had a good game in the other Nuggets win(game 3), one fair game(5/9 while Bynum went off) and 2 games that were pretty disappointing. That doesn't seem too different from his Wizards career. Nick Young is also looking pretty similar. It is a lot easier to hide a players weaknesses when they are coming off the bench, than when they are a key starter(as Young and McGee were with the Wizards).

It's a HUGE difference whether or not McGee is a starter. I think we can all agree that McGee is a useful weapon to have as a backup. If he is mentally engaged, he can be a real force out there. Unfortunately, he is such a dimwit at times that you can't rely on him to be a full time starter.

The problem is that he is going to get a starter's contract. Denver is either going to have to pay him $10M a year to be a backup, or they're going to have to start him and live with his boneheadedness killing their team defense every other game.

Bottom line: I'd much rather have Nene for the next 4 years at $13M a year than pay McGee $10M+ per year for the next 4 years. I actually think that Denver would be better off if McGee played like crap right now. Every good game McGee has is going to cost Denver millions of dollars on his new contract. It's not like Denver is going to win a title this season.

Yep - wish there was a way to quantify the impact of his play in this series on his contract. Each good game (nationally televised, naturally) will add $1M to his annual salary?

Maybe he'll "get it." Maybe he'll develop consistency, and there will be more games like Games 3 & 5 of this series and fewer duds. But some team (probably the Nuggets) will be betting $50M+ on those odds. Don't think I'd make that bet.

Interesting tidbit about Nene that I didn't see on the board.

When the Nuggets put Nene and his hefty new contract on the trade block, the team's primary targets were Atlanta center Al Horford and power forward Josh Smith. Either player would have been a major upgrade for Denver. But the Hawks replied: No way.

Denver wins the trade because they unloaded Nene's contract while keeping their 20th pick and both 2nd round picks. Denver must have taken notes from the Rubio trade.

The trade would have made sense for the Wizards if they had a guy who could step in at center, play good defense and score consistently. Too bad they don't have that.

Interesting quote from the article:

McGee possesses the intensity to do the dirty work of defending and rebounding that too often seemed to be contrary to the sensitive nature of Nene's gentle soul.

I agree that McGee is a better rebounder, but I think the writer is confusing shot-blocking with defense.

Again, I would double dog dare anyone to sign Javale to a long term contract in the 50 mil range (I'm guessing he'll get in that range.). If the Lakers had gone more to Bynum, the series would be over, and Bynum would be the easy series MVP.

We used two 2nd-round picks to move-up and get Booker. Picks are assets, you know better Raf.

I agree. I can't wait to laugh my ass off when he gets paid as a top 5 center this offseason.

Even in lasts nights spectacle, he's still going to do things like stick his arm through the hoop to goal tend a shot.

My view entirely. Let's see who has the stones to give Javale McGee $50 mil guaranteed. I wouldn't touch that with a 20-foot cattle prod. The only GM who can survive that decision is the GM who traded McGee to Denver.

A joke in Washington, a playoff hero in Denver. This is what can happen when you get out of a losing organization and into more structure

We've got 6 picks in the next 2 drafts. Why do we need more? I'm just asking here, sure we can draft and stash someone, but the international players...there's probably 1 or 2 of them that might get drafted this year. I agree with the premise of accumulating assets but we're at a point where we need to consolidate them and acquire a player, not more picks.

If you can get picks in a trade, it would be foolish not to. They can be traded, sold or used to pick actual players. They can be traded for future picks. There's no reason not to acquire picks in trades. Espcially when considering that every year good players drop into the latter part of the first round or into the 2nd round.

Well. they could, and what a great narrative it would be too. But it also goes to the pathetic superficiality of most sports journalism. I hear or read "losing organization" (or words to that effect), but journalists usually can't be bothered to do even a level one analysis. Does EG have to go? Is the new owner the same as the old owner? Is it the fans? They make jokes about "something in the water," and lamely laugh at themselves.

McGee and Young acted like fools a lot here, but they were never really jerks or anything (and I thought the cinnamon thing was pretty funny). Like almost any former Wizard, I hope they do great in their new locations. McGee had a great game. I hope he has more.
