2015 before even considering title contention? Man that is a tough pill to swallow.

Wow, I never thought I'd feel sorry for Cavs fans - I actually thought I'd be happily chuckling during the announcement, but wow. That was just too humiliating. Its hard to imagine a more humiliating way to stick a dagger in the hearts of all those fans who for some stupid reason really looked up to this guy as their one ray of hope in an otherwise economically devastated area.

Welcome to Cleveland, the place everyone tries to get away from...

Damn, you are cold blooded, Nate!

I can't blame a guy for wanting to maximize his chances to win a championship. If he was just 100% me, me, me he WOULD go to NYK, CHI or stay in CLE, all of which would make him the undisputed star and frankly a total god in that city.

Dude wants a ring. How can we blame him for that?

I don't blame him for wanting a ring, but he's tacitly admitting, at the young age of 25, that his precious chances are slipping away and he, a reigning two-time MVP, has to run to the shelter of a team with two top-tier all-stars, one of them nearly his equal in accomplishment.

I can't stand Lebron's image (he literally doesn't understand what "humbling" means, and apparently thinks it means "feels good to have your ego stroked"; the kids in the audience looked thoroughly bored) but he's often a remarkable player, and I could have maintained some level of respect for him for trying to make it work in Cleveland or trying to start over in any of the other cities.

But he's going to Miami, and despite the many "humbling" statements he makes, he actually believes he's going to the Dream Team (yes, he hasn't looked beyond the big-3; his GM work in Cleveland shows how little he understands about personnel or team composition) and it's because he actually is afraid of a fight, shies away from true competition, has been so much better than everyone for so long that he doesn't know how to deal with the fact that he's not a champion, and so he's running to champion Wade to save him. First he quits on his team, then he quits on the city. That's why I had no interest in him coming to DC.

It's all quite pathetic, and Lebron seems to be angling for fatally flawed super-great status (like Chamberlain) a freakishly gifted physical specimen that lacks something and has reduced himself to one of the greatest role players of all time. For those that say it's a business and he owes no one anything (as they said on Decision 2010), that is legally true, but he's left the Cavs, a team that was assembled in an attempt to please him, totally f**ked, and allowed the entire city and state to rub his body with essential oils for months. Prostitution may be illegal, but there's a moral obligation to pay the prostitute as you zip up and leave.

I'll leave discussions of why Miami might not be as good as advertised for another thread, but the tremendous overlap in skills and high usage rates makes me wonder how far I should project team success as a multiple of past individual successes of the three. They could bring Shaq back. He can team with Bosh and give Lebron two live models of how to kowtow to DWAYNE WADE, because Lebron's now second fiddle. He looked lost enough as a first fiddle.

Sorry if I sound cranky. They said first 10 minutes, and I turned it on after minute 5, and wasted the next 20 minutes watching some of the worst TV I've ever seen in my life, feeling like I was just the latest prostitute to whom LeBJ owed money. He still owes me. I actually feel bad for Cavs fans, and I hope the Cavs win championships before LeBJ does.

Well I will say this...LeBron has taken Cleveland to a place its never gone before...except for that one time when Art Model ripped out their heart in the middle of the night and trucked it to Baltimore. At least Model had the courtesy to do it in the dead of night...LeBron danced on their blood gushing corpse on national television.

You can't really feel bad for these guys. Just take a stroll back to the beginning pages of this thread if you need a reminder.

Just saying he doesn't belong in the same sentence as the first guy you mentioned. Not exactly like Scottie Pippen was a slouch either; took his team to the conference finals without MJ.

I don't feel bad for Cleveland fans. What Lebron did to Cleveland fans is horrific and typical of him, but sympathy for Cavs fans is virtually impossible. They strutted around as if the fact that they got lucky and won the lottery when Lebron James was coming out of high school made them all instant experts on everything to do with basketball.

The hearts of Cavs fans were torn out tonight and stomped into bloody shreds on national television. And they had it coming. People who so blindly and supinely defended anything Lebron did -- even and especially when what he did was indefensible -- brought this upon themselves. Cleveland fans earned what happened to them tonight.

Nevertheless, Lebron is still a complete douchebag for doing it to them. He could have shown mercy. If he was determined to leave he could have done it quickly, cleanly and with as little fuss as possible. I suppose Lebron believed that wouldn't be necessary. After all, Cleveland fans long ago shed any pretense of dignity where Lebron James is concerned.

Cavs fans learned what karma is tonight. I hope the future teaches Lebron all about it, too.

I remember those, but some Cavs fans don't write stupid things on message boards. Some are actually thoughtful, passionate fans that were just stabbed in the back. I feel for the true fans of any team that are screwed by players or owners.

No, you can really feel bad for those guys. I feel far worse for the 14 year old kid who's mind revolves around the Cavs and has always looked up to Lebron as their personal superhero. We in DC can at least point to the golden age of the 80s and early 90s where the Redskins had their golden age. People my age even remember the Wizards championships. If nothing else, young folks here at least can point to the DC United. But that 14 year old kid and everyone else like him, not to imagine every adult who had never seen a champion, just had his heart ripped out. I do feel bad for him.

Said another way, the asinine aura that is LeBron clearly rubbed off on his fans. Today at least, I'm blaming LeBron for that...

But there is good news in all this...I bet money my son now looks at the Wizards as his favorite team again. :D

Man, I was so excited for the upcoming season with John Wall show casing his stuff and to see how this team will grow into hopefully a championship contender. It just feels kind of pointless now with the Heat having 2 of the top 5 players in the game and a top 3 PF in the game.

Basically how I feel. If Melo and Paul go to NYC next season somehow, I'm done with the NBA. The league has already insulted my intelligence enough.

I also feel a little sorry for the Cavs fans. Lebon gave them hope and something to look forward to. Now all the Cavs fans only have the rest of their team. They have no star power. And they're back to where they were. Lebron doesn't give a rats ass about Cleveland. He's just shown what a douch he is. He should only care about winning, but, at least show some respect for the fans.
To do list
==========
1. Fire Ernie Grunfield
2. Get a GM who doesn't screw the fans all the time
3. Beat the Cavaliers in the playoffs
4. Get the no.1 draft pick
5. Get John Wall

I'm seriously depressed about this, the worst of all possible outcomes. Even Blatche might be too old to be on a contending Wizards team after this.

Voltron has been formed at our very doorstep.

It may be pithy but "what a douchebag" sums the entire situation up very nicely.
Until Grunfeld goes there is no rebuild.

I bet they all have opt-outs after 3 years or so. Honestly, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see them disband after 3 years or so. Maybe that's LeBron's redemption plan - go back to Cleveland in later years to try to win a championship after the team clears out all their bad contracts.

Return to Washington Wizards
