Just watched SportsCenter with the "update" on LeBron's cramps (heh - that time of the month?) and the unveiling of the Heat Index. And I am now officially a fan of Scott Van Pelt.

Brian Windhorst extricated his cranium from LeBron's posterior long enough to call in and talk with SVP on SC. And SVP actually said (paraphrasing): LeBron's got a high tolerance for pain, but also a lot of Hollywood in him. Tends to invent injuries for the sake of trying to get calls. So was this a real injury or just more drama from the Queen?

I expect SVP will get a visit from a suit in the very near future. Can't have the talent casting aspersions on The One. Might reduce the hits on the ol' Index...

Just as an FYI, the collective loathing by many on this board of the self proclaimed king started long before "the decision", when it suddenly became the mainstream opinion of just what a self-serving douche the guy really is.

I spoke with my Philly friend today. In passing he remarked
that Queenie is greatly despised up in his parts too.

I think that would be half of Cleveland.

It seems to me that when Mike Miller goes out early, teams just tend to spiral into the vortex. If we proved anything during the early portion of last year, it's that you can't win without Mike Miller as your fourth option. You just can't. He's that important.

I guess the HEAT are about to learn this lesson the hard way.

The Wizards lost with or without Mike Miller as the 4th option. Part of it was he acted like the 16th option.

His recent penchant for passing rather than shooting should make him popular on the Heat, and with so many solid options to pass to, he won't have to make those extreme cuts that leave him face down on the floor. The Heat should have focused on a center (although maybe they have what they need already), and I think they overpaid Miller, but he's a great addition if he's not injured (which, of course, could end up being a lot of the time).

In general, I am not one who relished in others misery. But LaDouche has made it easy for me to make an exception. Where ever he goes, the curse will follow. No crown for you.

Actually, I have never really carried for Bosh either so that makes hating Miami even easier. I wasn't a fan of those trade ideas to bring him here. Just seems like a LaDouche Jr to me.

Wade - He has had his share of injuries and he already has pulled up lame
MM - lost to Heat with right thumb injury for indefinite period- 2 weeks maybe longer

Can't wait to play these guys. We have to hope that Booker keeps developing as a defensive player and a physical force on the boards. At 6-8 240 and being reported as faster than Wall in the tryouts, you have to hope he can bother LaQueen. And when he isn't doing it, hopefully they can get AT back to the D level we saw him play that one game last year.

Wall vs Chalmers - adv us
Gilbert vs Wade - should be interesting. We will haven't gotten to see all of what Gil brings yet
Booker/AT vs LaDouche - adv LaDouche but again, if they can bother him enough on D
Dray/Yi vs Bosh/Haslem - Dray has him by 25 lbs in the post. I like Drays chances
McGee/Armstrong vs Joel Anthony/Z - Hard to say Miami has a advantage here.

I like our chances against them. We are still young with many unprovens but given what we know and what we expect to likely happen along with what some of us think with happen with some of our players, I think we have our advantages we can exploit. I like our chances even more if we can dump Nick for some reliable. Even if it is just adding Hudson or Martin. And this doesn't even include add Howard eventually.

I see Booker as a key piece of this. 6-8 240 -quick and strong against 6-8 250 quick and strong.
That's about as close as you get physically to matching up against LaDouche. Now I expect Booker to get a lot of fouls called on him in a match up like this, specially the first few meetings, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. I look for him to get better and better as time goes on. We will be facing this team for several years. I'm pretty sure they are already working the kid up telling him what one of his main purposes is going to be and how he is going to make a name for himself. They won't say this to the press much if at all, but they will as time goes on. They will keep the pressure on him lower and behind closed doors. Hell, if DSleezy could be that player even once, I like Bookers chances to be that over time.

A guy that size, speed, strength, age and a lefty was drafted to help slow down LaDouche.

That is why they moved to get him. That's what makes the idea of this move a great one even if it doesn't pain out. We at least tried find the right kind of player to do it. This is what many of us have been wanting the front office to do. Draft a defensive specialist. Well I believe Booker will be groomed to be that and I think he has the raw material to fill the role ala Bruce Bowen 6-7 200 or Ron Ron 6-7 260

I like our chances to compete with this team this year and moving forward. And even if we are not there late in the playoffs, I want to play the spoiler and expose them along the way.

That's amazing. I think Lebron and Nike just blaimed US for everything that he's ever done. Wow. Truly... I see the light now. How DARE us NBA fans have expectations for people who want our financial support and adoration!

Hmmn. 'What should I do?' I'm glad you asked LeB*tch, I'll start a checklist. What should LeBJ do:

Stop traveling. Stop bitching at the refs if they won't let you travel.
Stop checking your maxipad for blood every time someone steps on your shadow.
Stop refusing to shake the hand of a team who has proven better than you.
Stop quitting in the playoffs and blaming your teammates.
Stop quitting on a team and running to hide behind DWade's shadow.
Stop loving the smell of yourself.
Stop being a douchebag.
...
...
...

I'm a have to check back in on this when I have a spare minute. Feel free to add to the suggestion box.

Lebron+Nike=Like (with a long eeeeh!), the whole exercise designed to artifically create adversity above which he must...RISE...and we should feel guilty for writing him off so soon. He'll be MVP of the Finals even if the Heat don't make it that far, and if he comes off the bench for even one game, he's 6th man of the year, to go with Went Away and Cameback Player of The Year (the Whackpotty) and the Le Award (formerly known as MVP). How did we not see that coming? Where's Dennis Hopper sniffing sneakers when you need him?

Even though he's cashing in, on the way to the bank, he's not laughing, because he doesn't actually get the joke, but hey, I wouldn't mind missing the joke if I was that rich.

I'm surprised they didn't get Earl Woods' ghost to do the voiceover again.

I like Nike's products, but they'd shoot Kobe's next ad in a Denver hotel room if they thought it would sell shoes.

as far as commercials go, i kinda liked it. if it was a redemption commercial for Gil i probably would have really liked it. however, that's not a nod to Nike nor Lebron; more a tip of the cap to whatever creative geniuses on madison ave came up with it. you can bet that it didn't come from the fertile mind of maverick carter.

having said that the concept was good, i will say this:

it isn't applicable to Lebron's situation. there is no redemption for Lebron. He made a free agent move. Bosh and Amare did the EXACT SAME THING, and Melo/Paul is on the verge of doing the same thing. Why does America hate lebron for what he did? It isn't that he's ringchasing. All players ringchase. malone/payton on the Lakers ringchased. America despises Lebron for the way he went about it (i won't get into it. doc listed some earlier). The fact that Nike and Lebron think they can cover this little fact up by switching the tables and making the public out to be the bad guy here is insulting to us as fans. The sad part is, millions of braindead idiots across the country will actually doubt their instincts and start liking Lebron again because of this commercial.

In a vacuum, that's a very good commercial. Humor, pop-references, has been actors - it has everything. For any number of other athletes, it would succeed in making them a sympathetic figure. The problem is that we already know that LeBron is a hopelessly self-absorbed douche, so it comes accross as being completely contrived and insincere IMO. I disagree with pancakes that this will change a significant number of opinions about LeBron. Some, sure. But not "millions" IMO.

That being said, this is GREAT for the league. Enough people have come around on Kobe (including me) that the NBA needs a new "villan". Anything LeBron does that can be interpreted as narcissistic only further cements the "good vs evil" theme in pretty much every game he plays. It's an automatic story line.
