We do have pretty nice weather.

Step 1 for getting Durant is getting rid of EG. If EG is here he will surely waste any available capspace on average/declining vets.

Dude, are you picking a fight with me? And if so... why? You got a pet peeve w/ me?
Was it you who was trumpeting Al Harrington as one of the top backup forwards in the league? And you're mad at me because I disagreed? Because I'm right?
Because I laughed at the idea that Durant was likely to come here -- despite the Underground Railroad? You're mad at me, because I pointed out that the US as a whole, consciously and via its central gov't. and its military, destroyed a complex, long-lived set of indigenous cultures -- rather than just lamenting the Wash(i)ta Massacre (if you want to call it that -- read the Wikipedia article for a great deal more detail)? Was Custer an Oklahoman? General Sheridan (whose "total war" strategy was what was in play)?
And if you are *not* picking a fight -- if you're just frustrated (as we all are) with the endless mess the Wizards FO has created -- why then I recommend to you the great 1964 John Ford film,
Cheyenne Autumn, set 10 years after the events at Wash*ta and involving the Northern Cheyenne's forced long march away from their traditional homelands.

Will you very kindly explain why? I.e. is it that you want to keep shining a light on the needle that just might be in the haystack? Or...?
I'd love to have Kevin Durant here. Who wouldn't? First, though, lets put our current house in order -- fire Ernie and start over.

Well, perhaps Custer wasn't an Oklahoman. And perhaps I did make-up that Tulsa had witch trials. But, that doesn't distract from the fact that Oklahoma had the largest, Asian internment camps during World War 2 (which was voted on by the Oklahoma populace and overwhelmingly accepted). In fact, the Oklahoma department of motor vehicles to this day still commemorates what they consider a shining moment in their history with a license plate option -- "Home of the largest Japanese internment camp." And many Oklahomans opt for that plate over the somewhat less offensive "Go Sooners."
Aw hell, PIF, you are right. Oklahoma is so terrible I don't need to invent history. I see that now. From now on, I will merely state the god's honest, awful truth about that miserable dustbowl.

Setting aside the OK history debate they are a small market team with limited revenue. I can certainly see why a UFA would choose to leave given that it would probably be hard for them to attract/hang on to other quality players needed for title contention.

Maybe it factors in, and maybe it doesn't but is OKC going to be able to max out both KD and Westbrook again? I remember an article where they were mistakenly allowed to sign both of them to 5 year max deals, even though the new CBA only allows you to have one player with that type of contract on your books. If they have to choose only one next time, then staying in OKC wouldn't have nearly the financial advantage for the other guy.

Maybe because you turned this lighthearted thread into a gruesome reminder of the atrocities the Native Americans faced? Or because your sense of sarcasm doesn't exist? Maybe its because the "funny" parts are not up to your incredible comedic standards? I can't pin down the reason exactly, I just think this thread could do without your contributions.
As for the second part of your post, you're absolutely right. I will stop posting in this thread immediately and go fire EG.

Durant's extension kicked in after the new CBA, but he signed it under the rules of the old CBA, so they were able to designate Westbrook as their 5 year player.

Wow! Is that true? If so, it's a very ugly thing. But I am doubting it's true. Take a look at:
https://www.google.com/search?espv=210& ... se%20plateLots of images of Ok. plates on the page -- haven't yet seen one like you describe.

There really is no mystery here PIF as to why there are no googleable pics of every, single Oklahoma license plate. Fact is, I'm surprised you unearthed the few pics you listed. A majority of those must have been taken out of state. I think the brass tax about Oklahoma you are missing is very few photographs are actually snapped in that state these days. Almost every lens statewide has been smashed by the flying debris expelled from the omnipresent cyclones that dot the territory's weather map.
Actually, glass of any sort is becoming a rare commodity there, especially because of the growing anti-glass political movement. The problem, of course, is that when the glass shatters the shards become incorporated into the swirling winds, which in turn are hurled into storefront windows or celebrity, Ferrari windshields. You can see the exponentiality of this nightmare.
Personally, I stand strong with the pro-glass libertarians, despite my liberal roots. They rightfully point out that not only glass is spiraling around in those unhallowed storms. Every time a hardware store is swept away, the hellstorms gain a plethora of whirling carpetnails and circular-saw blades. Are Tulsans to illegalize those as well? When a hospital is sucked into the storm collective, do they then ban hypodermic needles merely for fear of the swarming, disease-infected, syringes overhead? When a gaggle of peewee-league soccer players are inevitably snatched into the tempests, do they outlaw athletic gear on the off chance some unlucky onlooker will be blindsided by a cleated Addias? I say, sternly, no.
I say if you wish to avoid being peppered by glass slivers or garden equipment in that hellish state, then follow the lead of 85% of the populace and gopher into survival bunkers. Live off pizza delivery. Teach your children about the Eden awaiting outside the everlasting, demonic winds. And one day, when the breezes subside, ship your youngins away in the most reliable, windowless truck you can hotwire.

Is this sarcasm? Or are you seriously saying that this is still taking place today. I can't find any evidence of it. I'd appreciate a link.

I don't have a link because Oklahoma.gov has been shutdown since the early 90s when the effects of global warming really started those cyclones spinning frantically. The storms took out most of the government servers. IBM sent in technicians to fix them, but the technicians themselves were engulfed by a maniacal twister. And since there was no way to discover what happened to them because all communication lines were down, the agonizing process of sending in rescue parties, and rescue parties for the rescue parties, began. IBM eventually banned all computer sales in the state. The government, what is left of it, now operate on a patchwork of soldered together Commodore 64s.
At least, that is what I have heard from Oklahomans who have escaped and now enjoy the safety and pleasures of our nation's capital. Are their stories true? Who knows. Oklahomans earned their reputations as habitual liars. I would never try to negotiate or sign a long term contract with any bedeviled Oklahoman.

"Most Toxic Town in America"is in Oklahoma.
It’s a life bordering on squalid—on the way out of the Gorillas Cage, Roberts spots shovel marks around the base of the burned-out signpost, the beginning of an attempt to steal it. Across the street, a former auction-house parking lot has become a dumping ground for tires. On the drive back out of town, he passes the abandoned high school and notices that the arts and crafts building has burned down. A man appears to be helping himself to bookshelves from an open classroom. Roberts can’t figure out why anyone would turn down the relocation money he’s offering. “Most people have bettered themselves through this process,” he says. “Now there are only radicals left.”
The apocalypse is already here; it’s just unevenly distributed. Urbanization has lured more people to bustling metropolises, but precious little thought has been given to what happens when these cities fail. Over time, the underlying systems and processes of civilization—from lead mining to offshore drilling to car commuting—slowly poison us. Power grids brown out, the climate heats up, and industrial accidents ravage ecosystems and cities alike. For all the famed cities with thousands of years of continuity—Paris, London, Cairo, Athens, Rome, Istanbul—most cities just stop. Picher isn’t simply another boomtown gone bust. It’s emblematic of what happens when a modern city dies: A few people stay behind, trying to hold on to what they can. They are the new homesteaders, trying to civilize a wasteland at the end of the world.
Beautiful Oklahoma. State motto: "The Wasteland at the End of the World". Come for the lead mines, stay for the scrap metal scavenging.

I had to visit OKC a couple years back (for research on the post-apocalyptic survival thriller I was working on at the time). They were literally in the process of disassembling an entire city. Cranes everywhere taking the city apart piece by piece. I'm thinking: why not just let the winds take it down? Or the fires?
Survived one of those flying glass storms by slitting open the gut of an armor-plated poodle (it's belly was the only part not protected) and crawling inside. The poodle was the size of a full-grown Holstein. It was just plain luck that I was able to take it down.

This thread ought to be retitled. What it should be retitled to - I have no idea.
Is there a Steve King equivalent who grew up in Oklahoma?
