I believe Riley is out the door and just built this team for whomever is coming up next. They are young, moveable contracts, I guarantee they dump TJ along with Dragic by February. I only say Dragic because he is the oldest on the team I think and his contract will help move TJ's contract. Then by next season or this if need be they can trade contracts away for better players. Otherwise Riley is def. out on his own merit to retire.
Also we better sign UD.
Dragic and TJ will be the key.... But so far this offseason has been an eye opener.... I'm thinking that if this team does make it to the ECF, it will give Riles a way out and retire with a competitive team not so much a true contender. Just something is off to me with the direction they are going with this.
I don't know if a true contender is even possible to build right now. LeBron playing like the GOAT along with Love and Kyrie were out there just playing for pride against the Warriors.
I think at this point most Heat fans would enjoy just giving LeBron a run even if that meant losing in 6 at the most.
The other option is that we're betting on our coaching staff to make these guys into positive assets. Right now we're strapped for picks and valuable young players. If Dion and JJ continue to progress and Olynyk plays well there's the potential for trading them, something which you can't do with expiring contracts.
Obviously the flip side to that is a McSob or Deng situation where the contract ends up being an overpay... but we'll cross that bridge if and when we get there.
Enjoy is subjective and speaking only for myself these movements doesn't make any sense. 4 year contracts that puts them 1 yr passed our best players in DG n HW for JJ Dion and Olynyk?? TJ with a poison pill of 19.2?? Sorry but I'm not buying the narrative here.
There are things that can be done and I do remember 2002-03 season with an identified deep draft that Miami went all in. Result was we got Wade. Did the Beasley bust affect this FO that much?? Riles in a hurry to put out a team to just be good enough to compete to give him a way out?? Not sure.....
Do not begrudge anyone that has found enjoyment in the this team assembled, really wished I was on the same boat. Just understand there are those that watch this scenario play out and are left thinking what the hell is the point of a competitive team with such a low ceiling to be committed for 4 years with no Picks to be tradeable along with the asset considering the new CBA is steering towards the draft and holding onto their own players....
