Staples Center changes name to Crypto.com Arena

Yup, to me that takes it from just another really bad name for an arena. To maybe pushing it over that line of the worst name for an arena haha. Its that extra little cherry on top of horribleness haha.

Name not even big deal. After couple years people get used it and move on

People clowned Pelicans name and now nobody cares
People clowned the Thunder name and now nobody cares

As usual, way too much of an overreaction to a name change. Most people won't care after a year lol

While driving cross country I got stopped in an Oklahoma freeway due to a thunderstorm and rain that I can only describe as Niagara Falls. That was a frightening experience. So when the name Thunder came up I wasn’t laughing. I thought it was a really good name for a sports team

I can't lie I thought was weird name at the time but later on I understood Oklahoma has decent amount of Thunder.

Although I feel sorry for fans who have had tragedies dealing with Thunder and can't fully enjoy OKC Thunder experience due to those Thunder related tragedies.

20 years is a really f*cking long time. There will be a generation of people who grow up never knowing the Staples Center. Plus, every time it's mentioned on TV, it'll be the Crypto center.

As the time passes, that'll be the prevailing name while the rest of us will just be waving our fists at the cloud about the old days when a different corporation had the naming rights to the arena.

Miami changed its arena name to FTX, another crypto related company. All the speculators spending money like it's the .com era. I hate naming rights on stadiums/arenas. They always sound lame.

I went to the Staples Center for both a Lakers and Clippers game a few years back. One thing I noticed is that in addition to have LED boards around the perimeter of the stadium, they also had older advertising signs that don't change throughout the game in addition to a non digital scoreboard - a throwback to when the arena was built in 1999. I believe the lower level of the suites has the fixed signs and the upper level the LED boards. I thought that was an awesome feature and given the history in that building - 6 Lakers titles in 22 years, I thought it was a very cool feature. A kind of being retro without intentially being retro feature.

I know this is off topic, but I hope they keep this feature.

Reality is the team now makes 40mill a year vs 5 mill a year from Air Canada. Also it was all forgotten now that the team won the chip in the SBA

It's still called ACC by a ton of people. Actually, I find alot more people still calling it ACC rather than Scotiabank arena now that I think about it. Same with Skydome.

What would be ironic about that? It’s kind of sad they’re changing the name. “Staples” is pretty iconic. It’s like when they changed the name of Joe Robbie stadium down in Miami. Historic names that are now tarnished

If you tell your boss we are going to Staple Center, you will get a lot of paperwork to do when you are there.
