This doesn't sound like someone with any interest in trading for Kyrie:

Out of those 3 above I feel Williamson has the best chance at earning the other 2-way contract.

Missed this last night. Just a summer league deal but you never know.

How done is Kemba?

Post#144 » by TrueLAfan » Sat Jun 25, 2022 6:39 pm

Serious question: how done is Kemba Walker? Is he

1) done as an NBA player,
2) done as a contributor,
3) done as a high rotation player,
4) or done as a starter?

Because he's going to be available soon on the buyout market, imo. I personally think he's got something left in the tank. I think the Knicks were a hot mess and were unusually badly set up and coached in terms of lineups last year. Kemba had a group of semi-remarkable games as a big minute starter last year, which thing were both an anomaly and a mistake--dude's body can't handle 35+ minutes a night. In the 8 games he played more than 30 minutes last year, he averaged 36.5 mpg, and put up 21.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 5.2 apg on a .419./.432/.833 line. TS% of around .590, a/to ratio of better than 2.5:1. Like I said, I think that’s fluky and ultimately was bad for him. Kinda like Blake a couple of years ago; play him 30 mpg, and you’ll get some good games—but you’ll lose having him available for more games with lesser minutes but decent production.

In the 20 games Kemba played 20-29 minutes last year, he put up 11.1/2.4/3.7 in 24 mpg on a .429/.367/.853 line. Better than 3:1 a/to ratio. Yes, his defense was poor—but he can still pass, still score, and is a smart ballplayer. If you want the Kemba Walker that averaged 23-4-5.5 over a five year run, you’re way too late. The question is—do we think he could contribute 20 mpg for 60-65 games, and give us 10 points and about 3 and a half dimes? For nothing—which is what he’d be after clearing waivers, that would be a nice backup PG.

I think a lot of good players can’t keep up starter minutes as they get older, but can still be high level role players if they recognize how they can best help a team win. Nico and RoCo of course come to mind- less minutes, more focused or specific role, but really good at what they do bring to the team. I imagine it’s possible Kemba can still be effective this way, if his mindset is right.

i've only ever heard good things about kemba walker's attitude so i wouldn't imagine him being bad addition playing a lesser role on our team.

my issue with adding him would be how much he might worsen our defense all by himself, in addition to the idea that he'd be virtually unplayable next to reggie jackson. i mean i wouldn't hate it, but i wouldn't love it, either

All I know is that Kemba has missed a lot of games recently. If he's getting bought out, which means he'll be open to a small contract, I have no issue with signing him to play half the game at PG, but like mentioned, just no or minimal minutes with Reggie.

I think Kemba and Reggie are too similar, and I'd take Reggie over Kemba because of familiarity and health. I don't see a need to add player like Kemba to the rotation. I would much rather have someone like Rubio.

Kemba is on the wrong side of 30 and has bad knees. What could possibly go wrong with him and our wonderful medical staff?

He looks totally done anyway. Thibs has a Doc-esque obsession with giving big minutes to mediocre washed veterans, and even he had to bench Kemba after 20 games.

If we’re going to take a gamble on broken down guards I’d rather kick the tires on Wall.

More summer league stuff.

I forget who it is here but were really high on Walker. I think he even worked out for us before the draft.

Backs For The Wall

Post#153 » by Wammy Giveaway » Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:55 pm

If Wall indeed joins the Clippers, it will be another redemption story: a player that nobody wants anymore because they determined his career is over after having a number of down years, then suddenly the Clippers swoop in to give him one last chance before leaving the NBA altogether.

This is a little more interesting. Wall had always wanted to play with George, going back to the days when both players were in the Eastern Conference. Despite having made the All-Star Game five times in a row, the minimum number required to be considered a superstar, Wall has been demoted to a role star due to consistent injury.

The real challenge will be how they will treat Wall. Remember that the Clippers have resisted the urge of creating a super team because they're trying to play for the greater good of basketball. As a way of distancing themselves from the dysfunctional Donald Sterling era, the Clippers have purposely been targeting players with good character regardless of talent in their quest to become the new Spurs, a Good Samaritan franchise. A True Big 3 would be dubbed a super team, directly coming into conflict with Lawrence Frank's mission statement. The trade for George itself was seen as a test of character, partly to convince Kawhi Leonard (making the playoffs as a role player team, without a superstar, also factored into his decision), while also forcing parity upon the league as the Lakers were reportedly interested in acquiring the Pacers superstar to create another True Big 3. Wall buying out his contract and coming to the Clippers on a veterans minimum contract would be his test of character, proving that he understands the Clipper's value of chemistry over power.

Yes, the Clippers want to win, but they don't want to dominate.

Regardless of whoever else is out there, buyout John Wall is the alpha and omega FA of our offseason.

On a stacked team like ours, I think he’ll be able to come in and play reasonably efficient minutes in the role that he is given.

Rough day for the Lakers (though they're probably better off without Kyrie anyway) and the Suns.

Let's go! I could easily see us revitalizing his career like Batum.

John Wall / Reggie Jackson / Jason Preston
Norman Powell / Terance Mann / Brandon Boston Jr
Kawhi Leonard / Luke Kennard / Jay Scrubb
Paul George / Marcus Morris Sr. / Nicolas Batum
Robert Covington / Ivica Zubac / Moussa Diabate

I like it. As others have said it could be a Batum type situation.
