I remember watching every night that summer. Between that and watching Jordan a few months prior it was probably the best sports year ever. ‘98 was probably the best year ever

98 is probably my most hated year of sports I can remember. Gary Anderson not missing a single kick all season then missing the chippy against ATL in the championship game. Put a stain on that year for me as a little kid.

But ya even though I was only 7 that year, I still remember watching as many baseball games as possible because the HR chase was ridiculously good TV.

I remember that kick being missed. I always had kind of pulled for Minnesota and I was actually listening to that on the radio. Vikings have had some terrible missed kicks in big time moments.

It’s probably nostalgia but I distinctly remember 98 as a sports fan. Getting SI every week, home run summer, Jordan in the finals, lance Armstrong, Randy Moss, Tiger Woods, TRL. That year was insane. Take me back

That was my first year I ever rooted for a team start to finish and was emotionally invested all season long. I couldnt believe what I watched when that happened.

But it was good prep for me being a Vikings fan and what was to come. Getting shut out by 40+ in the championship game a couple years later. That idiotic call against the Cardinals where they pushed the WR out of bounds but at the time it was still considered a catch and because of that the Vikes didnt make the playoffs. Blair Walsh missing a chippy against Seattle. Brett Favre throwing against his body and across the field against the Saints.

Being a fan of the Vikings has no doubt aged me haha.

Oh ya. Again take away the Vikings part haha, that was some good times. That was also ESPN and Sportscenter peak. Every morning I would wake up and just watch ESPNews on repeat before school. Then at night I would just have SC on repeat.

That Brett Favre pick & the response by the Minnesota announcer (Paul Allen) in real time, is one of the funniest responses ever. Sorry. But that's one that will always go down as a classic lol. I was still in college then.

But yeah, they've had some really **** luck over the years.

Paul Allen is a national treasure. Great voice, great emotion, and being the guy calling Viking games he has been able to be apart of some historically awful collapses.

Chargers are the same. 2005 playoffs...OT vs Jets...Nate Kaeding misses FG (not real long one) and they lose. 2007 playoffs..up 21-13 against Patriots..#1 seed that year, HFA....intercept Brady so looks like it is over..this is in 4th...the guy instead of downing it tries to run it back and fumbles it back to the Pats. Kaeding also misses a FG in that game. They lose 24-21.

2007 playoffs...Rivers tears ACL but still plays AFC championship but lost to Pats.

2008 playoffs....Kaeding misses 3 fgs and they lose to Jets 16-13.

After that it was mostly horrifying losses due to miscues or turnovers during the season. I think they won one playoff game against the Bengals and maybe one against the Ravens over the last decade or so.

Here's a full detailed description of what exactly happened.

The Astros' cheating scandal began early in 2017. According to the investigation report from MLB, Houston employees in the video room used game feed from the center field camera to decode and relay the signs of opposing teams to any Astros' baserunners on second base.

The means of relaying the signs often varied. With the runner on second, the team would have a go-between from the video room and the dugout, and personnel in the dugout would send the signal out to the runner on second, who would then signal to the batter which pitch was coming. Bench coach Alex Cora would also call the replay review room to hear the sign information and, sometimes, the replay review room would send a text to a smart watch or stored phone in the dugout to communicate the signs.

However, the report stated the scandal went further. Designated hitter Carlos Beltran and several other players devised a plan to improve the sign-stealing. Cora set up a monitor that displayed the center field camera feed directly outside the dugout, and a player would watch it and read what signs were coming. The team would then bang on a trash can to signal which pitch was coming to the batter. The trash can only came into play after trying out clapping, whistling and yelling.

why cheat like that.

Don't usually watch the NFL but Lamar Jackson is appointment television. most exciting player I've ever seen.

I actually became a fan of the dodgers because of Yasiel Puig

At least you didn’t become a Nats fan because of Juan Soto

Well the Chargers look like they'll be a contender going forward. So I think you'll have a lot to look forward to.

why cheat like that.

Because they didn't think they'd get caught. They probably thought that the league wouldn't look into it.

NFL is OK. They have some unique players at QB now that make the game fun to watch. I’d suggest watching the Chiefs, Ravens or Cardinals. Each of those teams offer something exciting and different at the QB position.

Dead in what way?

He means dead in that it's lost it's appeal over time. The 90's we're known as the "Juice era" in Baseball. Steroid use was very common in those days. These massive dudes like Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire & Barry Bonds set records for hitting. But they we're juicing. Baseball started to put an end to steroid use during the early-mid 2000's. Which led to a massive decline in homerun numbers across the sport. The game changed because of it.

51,931 home runs in the 2010s compared to 47,821 from 1993 to 2002. 2 more teams since 1998. There has not been a massive decline in home runs.
