Maybe nothing was out there. I certainly didn’t see a good option. It’s no secret I think like every team except like the Wizards maybe Bulls want to be good. A lot of teams also owe picks which means they are forced to compete. I think that results in teams overvaluing there current players which is why we saw like limited trades and no lottery picks being moved for players.

Simons had to be out there. With Sharpe getting more PT and drafting Scoot.

Max Stus, while I like the player, doesn't fit after our draft. We do need size though. Backup minutes at the 4 and 5 are available even if JI is healthy as you know they'll ease him back in.

WCJ/?/Goga
Paolo/?/JI
Franz/Jett
Suggs/Black/Harris
Fultz/Cole

I'm not worried about what position guys are going to play. These guys just need minutes and opportunities. Trades will happen though. We're primed for a 'guard for a big' trade IMO. Who's out there?

Yea but they didn’t want to trade Simon for a draft pick or even a young guy. They wanted a veteran. The trade with Portland was never going to happen because we didn’t have what they wanted. Maybe a three team trade but those are really hard now. Also I am not totally sure but I think I prefer Jett to Simons. Simmons defense sucks too and he doesn’t have size and he is much more expensive.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Magic need a legit backup SF who can shoot and Strus would be someone that can do that. It'll be interesting to see what he would get, Hollinger has him as 6th best SF FA expecting to get MLE 11M for multi year deals.

What roles are up for grabs?

Point guard
Combo guard
Shooting guard
Swing-man
Combo forward
Combo big
Power center

I'm saying point guard is since we spent No 6. on Black.
I'm saying combo guard is as well for the same reason.
Shooting guard is open because Harris averaged so few mpg, we have Suggs, and spent No 11. on Jett.
Swing-man is for the same reason.
Combo forward, combo big, and power center are all obviously in flux.

I think our rotation could be wildly different to start the season.

For Max to make sense, Fultz or Cole would need to go in a trade this summer. I don't see that happening but it could. Rotations would look at lot more normal if we could trade either for a 5/4 combo big.

I would love to see betting odds for who wins various roles.

Fultz
Cole
Suggs
Harris
Black
Jett
Bol
JI
Chuma
Houstan
Moritz
Goga Schofield
Kevon
Free agent(s)

Edit: my bets

Point guard: Black
Combo guard: Fultz
Shooting guard: Suggs
Swing-man: Jett
Combo forward: JI
Combo big: Moritz
Power center: free agent/trade

I think it's inching closer to one of those guys being traded before opening night. FA will tell us some more about the path the FO is moving down

Not at all, but he'll take the playing time of whatever PG we lose; just at a different position.

Like everyone said, he'll play backup wing for us. Depending on what happens with Gary, maybe a chance he starts at SG.

I'd strongly consider Ingles if he accepts the role.

My most anticipated lineup

Black|Suggs|Franz|Paolo|WCJ

Heavy on ball movement, disruptive defense, FTr, with a heavy demand for Franz to increase his usage and Suggs to step the hell up.

if you listen to chatter, DFS from Brooklyn is a possibility.

Naz Reid was extended, but i dont know if he can still be traded (help please). Minny also needs a PG to backup Conley and take over; even grow with Ant.

Naz & Wendell Moore for Gary Harris + Cole?

Minny gets some backcourt depth.

Orl gets a backup big + wing on rookie deal to develop as they balance out the roster.

i know we normally get the, cant be traded until november. but that may be a free agent, vs extending someone. someone with more knowledge can share. I wouldnt want to bring in Moore, we already have SG's in Suggs and Howard, with Black likely spending some time there also. I would target Jaden McDaniels or Kyle Anderson. We should be able to find a 3rd big man behind WCJ and Goga.

I also prefer the names you mentioned, but I think they're highly valued by Minny; more valuable than Cole, IMO (I could be totally wrong).

If we ship out guards, I think we can afford to get 1 back that also plays SF.

PG - Fultz/Black
SG - Suggs/Jett
SF - Franz/Moore?

It would be nicer to have a vet wing getting backup mins but not bad with Moore. Could also flip him somewhere else.

Backup PF/C is our real need now.

With the unreliability of WCJ/JI I don't think we should rely on MoeW and Goga as our psuedo starting C/Backup PF for the entire season no?

Return to Orlando Magic
