He shouldn't have been in the game, trust your bench. Add another one to the Thibodeau hit list.

1) Stand pat, lock-up iHart and OG, make one more run with this core while maybe swapping Bogs and picks for a bench upgrade... This is a really good option as we'd prob hit 55+ wins and be a top 3 seed with a strong chance at ECF (if healhty)
2) Go big fish hunting... Giannis, Spida, Mikal Bridges, etc. types to get Brunson more help and to move on from the Randle at PF era. In this scenario, there's a strong chance we part ways with Randle, Mitch, and Bogs. The Nova boys are likely kept in tact. This could get us into contention as well, obviously, depending on who we trade for and what we give up.
I'm good with either option. We're in a good place.
You go big fish hunting. For me Mikal probably belongs in your Option 1 scenario more than Option 2. That said, moving on from Randle continues to be thrown out there even when the debate/argument has been long settled. When he plays, he's a plus and worth more than his contract. We need him, and can keep him while adding another big time player. Why are we willing ourselves into being worse?

We're not winning a chip without Randle. We could potentially make a run at the ECF without him and with a healthy OG, but you don't risk causing permanent damage to his elbow for that.
OG's gonna be on our books for 4 more years. You have to think long term.
My inclination would be to shut him down as well. No basketball-related activities until it heals completely.
At this point, shouldn't we be hesitant in giving OG a big deal?

Once I learned more about it from listening to former players and doctors, I was of the opinion he should've got the surgery ASAP to ensure he's back 100% by next season. So I'm not as disappointed as others because this seemed like an inevitability. Obviously, we're not going to go as far as we would with him, but I'm super excited for next season with a fully healthy (hopefully) team from the start. We're going to be a really deep team and who knows what moves we'll make this offseason. Get well soon, Randle. We need you.
Anyword on if he will be ready for the start of next season?
It’s usually a 5-6 month surgery and recovery process. Putting him to return at the start of next year
Nice....

No, he wouldn't have been back this season
ok then it is what it is...he obviously gave it all he had to make it back. Just **** situation.
It’s still a major f up because he could have been months into recovery by now and more time to ramp up for next season. Our medical staff is pretty sus these days

Isn't the same injury happening repeatedly the definition of chronic? I'm no doctor but it would appear so.
from what i've read about this, it's better for him to come back fully healthy or this could become something he has to manage forever. and he already got re-injured once and they changed the designation of his injury to elbow tendinopathy. who really knows but since we're not fighting for a championship this year and are about to hand him like 160 million and he's somewhat injury prone, maybe we should be careful. i know you're just being sarcastic but i explained it anyway
It was a little sarcasm of course but it seems self explanatory, if something keeps happening it is chronic. He showed up in NY with it already, so the first instance here wasn't the first instance of it altogether. What does 'fully healed' mean anyway if an injury can be reoccurring, 'this' time it has healed but it's not really fully healed.
Some injuries are it happens once and it's not like it's going to happen again, even though some types of injuries may have other complications or repercussions. I think any time we are dealing with an injury that has lingering effects that can recur, we should consider it something that can be 'chronic' even if it doesn't exactly fit the technical definition.
When we are talking about players you are building the whole roster around that consideration should be more prominent because the ramifications of it can destroy everything being built. Which means I'm not going to be too excited to see the Knicks trade for an injury prone 'star', not just someone who has injuries, players do have them, just no players prone to reoccurring ones.

This is the nature of a Thibodeau team, there's too much "rub some dirt on it and give it a go" this has happened everywhere he's been. It isn't just the medical staff it's the coach and the FO in lock step applying pressure to have these guys out there.

Re: Per WOJ - Randle having surgery
I think blaming the medical is unfair. There have been players who came from this injury in the past after a few weeks. Of course we do not have the MRI or X Rays but if the docs obviously felt with some rehab he had a chance to come back this season. To think they purposely delayed surgery for the hell of it doesn't make sense.

You're acting like the FO is forcing Thibs to play guys who are clearly injured and unable to play. This has never ever happened. Thibs plays guys who are available to play and has even followed the minutes restrictions with guys coming back. Like always, you're making **** up to fit this narrative without any proof.

You really hate this for Randle because this was the postseason for him to prove that he can produce in the playoffs and give us a clear vision of this team moving forward, and now I don't know if we extend him.

We've seen the Knicks bench give up a double digit lead in 2 mins but trust them to hold one for 5 mins because of course they can and blame the coach if he won't trust them to even if the evidence is contrary to that trust.

Re: Per WOJ - Randle having surgery
Boy I sure hope that the reason the Knicks didn't trade for a high end shot creator (like Derozan or Kuzma) was not because they felt they had enough shot creators and instead was because those other teams didn't want to trade them. But honestly, even if Randle was able to come back, it sure don't seem like folks trust him to be that "other" shot creator so, did it really even matter if maybe they thought Randle could be that guy? But yes, moire 3 points shooters. 3 seasons in a row and we keep not realizing what we actually really need. The past few games is a sampling of what the playoffs is going to look like...just more often.

2021-2022 - Randle by himself, not enough
2022-2023 - Brunson with an playing through injury Randle (who looked like poo), not enough.
2023-2024 - Brunson again as the only real high end shot creator (this time without Randle at half mast), we expecting different results are we? Because of who and what?

Lmao
It's like some of you never looked at the Bulls or Timberwolves injury history with him. You guys are embarrassing with your defense as though these same things haven't happened before.
