That will end poorly.

It costs them nothing to say that, and very little to test it.

Oh, Ty on a $9M deal is good value but the Grizzlies spent a lot of money this summer. Like a lot, lot.

If we're trying to build a proper playoff roster, I think buying into Sam > Ty is honestly the move. We're filled enough at the 1, and Sam brings defense that we only really got from Okoro prior to this

We just got Larry Nance Jr for the vet min. I know a lot of you wanted him back.

6'7" center isn't great but hope he can stay healthy.

I think the Cavs are done with their summer.

Garland/Ball/CPJ
Mitchell/Merrill/Proctor
Strus/Hunter/Tyson
Mobley/Wade
Allen/LNJ

Merrill's defense gets a little overrated by Cavs fans. He has good technique and is fundamentally solid, but his height and athleticism are what they are.

LNJ has a 7'2" wingspan, smart player, good passer, and his 3pt shooting keeps getting better ... but his crohns still needs to be managed, but hey, he's a perfect fit for team brittle.

Sam has gotten stronger and does a better job holding his position and/or taking contact and charges, which is valuable.

I too need more convincing to say he's an asset on defense let alone comparable to Okoro, but we all love effort and Sam gives it.

Damn, that's hard to believe. You know, unless his agent made it perfectly clear they wanted every last cent or don't bother returning the call.

edit: I don't actually have twitter or whatever they call it, but doesn't look to me like Ty is actually active on his feed.

I am pretty shocked and assume we will hear some Cavs FO side to this. I'd be shocked if we learned it was just about being further in the luxury tax

I didn’t expect much for the offseason, but between LNJ replacing Tristan Thompson and Jawad joining the coaching staff, I am pretty happy.

I liked Ty, but, for as smooth as the offense ran, the defensive identity was on a milk carton. We’ll see if they can help develop one.

I think that is exactly what happened.

Ty's reps said they want $14 million AAV and the Cavs never 'offered' that. We just pivoted. The conversation for sure took place prior to the draft.

I understand it sucks but they overplayed their hand.

I still wish him the best and appreciate last season.

Jerome, Merrill, and Strus all have the same agent.

Jerome’s agent might have wanted Jerome to find a new team because he wanted to maximize the combined salary of Jerome and Merrill and Cleveland would only sign one of them. If Jerome signs in Cleveland for whatever price, Merrill might have to look elsewhere. That may have been less appealing for his agent— Jerome should have had more external interest than Merrill.

We didn’t really replace Ty. Maybe that works better for Mobley and Hunter to get more touches in those bench units. But I think we’ll mostly just be a little worse.

Cavs have made Travers a RFA. No word on them tendering Bates a QO, so I wonder if the Bates experiment is finally over.
Per Spotrac's transaction log, Travers signed the 2way deal. So we only have 1 two-way spot left.

Presumably only 1 standard spot left too, since we always leave spot 15 vacant until the final month of the season.

The best argument I can make is that the F.O. wants this team to learn to win close games against other good teams by playing better defense at the cost of some of our offense.

We won 64 games and I don't believe many of them were all that close late in the 4th quarter. One thing the Pacers series exposed is that we really couldn't slow the game down without Garland, and the pace inevitably favored the Pacers. If the Cavs can maintain or increase their rebounding advantage, while running a little more time off the clock, the Pacers get fewer possessions.

In general we need to focus on traits which work in the playoffs against teams without severe flaws and who have competent coaching.

Seems were still missing some rugged players and a pocket rocket who can blow by any man D no matter how tough.
