No way is he even close to as good as Mark offensively. Mark's roll gravity and explosiveness clear Kalk's. Mark will posterize anyone in the league and has actual post moves and legit two-hand finishing.

He is a similar archetype though and can be basically Mark-lite in profile. But he is not as good offensively.

probably why he didn't say offense, just shooting. the availability and cost is the big advantage for Kalk.
if a big upgrade is available, we still have Kalk as backup or he could even entice a couple of teams trade wise.
that's the other big benefit of our 2 young cheap centres showing decently. a lot of teams would happily and either for depth.

Feels like he has higher upside than expected. His touch is very good, if he can make some spot up threes like in college he may be the complete package on offense. His defense should be solid too once he gets strength.

Obviously Kalkbrenner should never be a focal point on offense in the modern NBA but for crying out loud give him 3-4 touches a game in the post at least. We saw at Creighton that he was a capable interior scorer on the low block. No reason they shouldn't be utilizing that to get some easy buckets here and there and draw some fouls on opposing bigs.

Also, he should be given the green light to attempt an occasional 3 when left wide open

I don’t want to pour water on what has been an impressive start from the kid…

His defense gets us killed on 3 pointers (or rather, Chuck Lee’s deep drop defense that instructs him to never leave the paint). That’s two games in a row when total bum shooters in Adebayo and Wendell Carter lit us up from 3. Did they become Dirk overnight? No. Kalkbrenner just gave them 10 feet of space to get their shots off.

His offense is a real bright spot and he’s a good defensive anchor. But he gets torched by shooting bigs and that is a concern for a starting big in this league.

He has incredibly soft hands, good rebounder (may become very good with experience and strength), shot blocker, good footwork. Agree they need to find better ways to feed him the ball. Early concerns are obviously his lack of closeout perimeter defense, his passing is OK but is turnover prone (I think that’s from lack of familiarity with teammates), isn’t comfortable or capable of hitting mid range shots, won’t take 3’s cause he can’t hit them without a long windup. I’m very pleased relative to his second round value. Ideally he’s a key reserve behind a quality starter like Jarrett Allen.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

EVERY team we play has killed us with their Centers

He's doing lower end Mark Williams stuff. solid box score numbers on good efficiency while giving it all up and then some on the other end
