Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part IX)
I found the NJ offer insulting for Dwight. I actually think Orlando could get Deron IF he was got to like NJ obviously got to Dwight. IF Deron could be badgered to demand a trade to Orlando then a package of Jameer, JJ, Ryan, Orton and Fran rights is more than fair value when you reflect what the Nets offered for Howard. I'd hate to see Jameer and JJ go and if possible, depending on the time of the year, would gladly sub in JRich for JJ.
Magic can go with Dwight and Deron, add in Turk, JJ/JRich, Davis, QRich, Hughes, Clark, and try to pick up KMart or JR Smith who I believe are available with the MLE? I've seen worse building blocks for a 9 man rotation. Also, could get some decent vets to fill out the roster. Certainly better than the Nets offer to Dwight.
On a side, possibly offer adidas some kind of sponsorship incentive in the amway in return for a huge marketing campaign focused on Dwight and Orlando? Just a thought.

Everything starts with Dwight... I don't know why CP3 didn't have Orlando on his list, which leads me to believe what discussions him and D12 have didn't include the magic. Dwight needs to recruit and he is not doing so, it would be good if we can get wilson chandler for MLE.

Wasn't hasn't there been a new thread about the Magic pursuing Ostertag as their back-up big.
Bobby Knight says:
"Most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win."
"You don't play against opponents, you play against the game of basketball. "

chandler at the MLE is a good pickup. it would help show Dwight the FO is putting better players around him. I realize YOU dont like it, as it doesnt help your agenda of getting Dwight out of Orlando.

Derron:
The nets have done just as little for derron as we have for dwight. He needs to realize we have better pieces that NJ and our weather and taxes are much nicer.
“We need some more pieces,” Williams told the New York Times. “There’s no secret about that. There’s not many starters on our team right now. We have a lot of great role players, a lot of guys who know their job, but in this league you need some top-tier guys so you can get the job done.”

If the Nets keep playing this badly, I bet Deron could demand a trade out of there. Think about it, there is no garauntee their owner will spend like the Devos. Magic will spend, that is a given. No garautee the Nets will get the right role players to be any better than the Magic now. Maybe, the Magic could get a 3rd team involved to trade for Deron.

Plus if the owner is going to run for Russian presidency that may affect his willingness to spend.

1 yr deal a little over 1 mill. WTF Otis ? Could have signed this guy. We need a backup big! Meanwhile, Earl Barron is still available.
This might allow us to get "back" (not that we were probably ever) into the game for an ellis/biedrins package...

Przybilla is looking for a team still too. He will never come here, but I would think Otis would have to be looking for a center even if he plans on dealing Dwight. You're not getting 2 centers back in any trade, so at some point, a center is going to be needed.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part IX)
We should take a punt on Joe Alexander. I still think he has a shot at a good career with the right coach (yeah, I know SVG has a tough rotation system already).
It can't hurt. He was a number 8 pick and has some raw talent there. Otis Smith...make it happen.

With Durant and Westbrook getting into arguments again could this be a chance to offer Dwight/Hedo for a Westbrook/Harden/Perkins maybe others? When these guys started arguing last season everyone started talking like they couldnt co-exist on the same team?

I dont think Otis would be investing on a center until the Dwight Howard situation is settled, IMO.

+1
but unfortunatelly Otis is not loking for one:/
...if we are still into lopez or bynum trades...these guys can get re-injured easly
and we may end up with Davis as a starting center...
its a shame we didnt go after chuck hayes...we could create all nba midget team

Forget that, lets put a 4 team deal together that brings us Westbrook and keeps dwight!

Hopefully Ewing has been in Howards ear about how tough it is to play under the NY scrutiny and press. He also has to see that the Nets with just him and Derron will not win it all. I also don't think the Nets owner is as willing to spend as Devos, since they are trying to get the dad a title before he goes.

The full Magic roster would be:
Westbrook/Nelson/Duhon/Hughes
Richardson-2/Redick/Wafer/Liggins
Turkoglu/Richardson-1
Ibaka/Anderson/Clark/Harper
Perkins/Orton
This is a good roster and is deep. GM Smith could then turn Duhon and Redick into a couple of combo bigs. A Darko Milicic type.
Then Orlando would be:
Westbrook/Nelson/Hughes
Richardson-2/Wafer/Liggins
Turkoglu/Richardson-1
Ibaka/Anderson/Clark/Harper
Perkins/Milicic/Orton
This is a very, very deep team. There are nine players who have regularly started on such a roster.
